Chapter 26
Wyatt sleeps in my apartment without asking for my permission. He claims that he's already in a relationship with me, so he doesn't need any permission from me to sleep here. In my defense, he's hogging all the bed for himself. Even the comforter.
It's already 8 in the morning, but here I am, still looking at his sleeping figure instead of making a breakfast for us. Wyatt looks so peaceful, like an innocent kid that hasn't had a rough experience, like he doesn't have any problems at all. I've come to learn that Wyatt is a strong person, and despite his lapses, he tries everything he can for a greater outcome. Even though he's an asshole, conceited, and has a big ego, Wyatt has a good side that not everybody sees or notices. He has a good heart.
"Good morning," Wyatt greets groggily as he opens one eye, smiling as soon as he sees me. I purse my lips, resisting the urge to smile as I find him really cute. "How long have you been awake?"
"Hmm," I ponder for a moment. I don't really know how long I've been awake. I smile to myself, realizing that I'm whipped. "Maybe an hour and a half? You looked so at peace, and I didn't want to wake you up."
"So you decided to stare at me for an hour and a half, is that it?" He chuckles at his smartass reply. "You love looking at your handsome boyfriend, don't you?"
"Your ego is shining brighter than the sun, I see."
Wyatt laughs. He slightly leans forward to reach for me, his hands circling around my waist as he pulls me into him. He kisses my temple, and takes a deep, calm breath. I lean forward, letting myself wrapped in his warm embrace. For a moment, we just sit there, hugging at each other as our hearts beat in sync. Wyatt's embrace makes me feel so valued; it makes me feel so important and secured that I don't want to lose his touch.
I turn around, so that my back rests against his naked chest, and we both stare outside through the window of the room, overlooking the view of New York. At this moment, it feels surreal that Ajax Wyatt is my boyfriend. It feels surreal that he's gay, and has feelings for me since high school. Who would have thought that the jock back in high school was secretly gay and was harboring feelings for me.
"I'm hungry,"
"We have cereals,"
"All right," he grins.
Wyatt prances around the apartment half-naked. He gets us two bowls while I get Cornflakes cereals that's in the cupboard. He prepares us coffee while I take pictures of him as he works in my kitchen. All the while he watches me with a huge smile plastered on his face. He makes weird and funny faces, and the entire time, I'm happy.
Once our breakfast is prepared, we both eat together while still goofing around. At this moment, as we both look at each other, it appears that we haven't faced a lot of issues in our lives. It appears that we were just two people in love with each other.
As I stare at him, I realize that I must proceed with the resignation. It's against the rules of the company for someone to be in a relationship with their superior, and Wyatt is my superior. So if everyone knows that there's something going on between me and Wyatt, and I'm still employed, then that's going to be a scandal.
"What are you thinking?"
"Huh? Nothing."
"I've known you since high school, Pierce." Wyatt rolls his eyes, dropping his spoon. He crosses his arms against his chest and looks at me with a raised brow. "I know when something's bothering you."
"I need to proceed with my resignation,"
Wyatt takes a deep breath and shakes his head, annoyance clearly evident on his face. He runs a hand across his face. "We've talked about this."
"Wyatt, it's for the best." I reason out, grabbing hold of his hand. "I know that you want me to work for your company, but you know this relation is against the company's rules. I want to freely date you without any fear, and without putting your image and the company at risk."
"You're not putting my image or the company at risk,"
I take a deep breath. Arguing with this idiot is not recommended. "Wyatt, have some common sense. If I keep working for you as your secretary, and if everybody knows that I'm dating you, I'm digging my own grave. On top of that, you would have to deal with the board. You may be the CEO of the company, but trust me, I've been watching a lot of dramas and the board can vote to get you out and fired."
Wyatt ponders for a moment before answering. "Fine,"
"That's effective immediately."
"What? No." He lets out a sigh as if this conversion is exhausting for him. If he could argue with himself, he'd be pretty pissed. "You can't resign immediately."
"Because?"
"Because..."
"I'm waiting..."
"Because..."
"Wyatt, I swear if your reason is fucking invalid, like you just want me to stay and delay this for a little longer, then I'm going to kick you out of this apartment." I cross my arms and glare at him, still waiting for his answer.
"That's accurate." Wyatt admits, sighing in defeat as he mopes like a kid on the table. "I just want to be with you 24/7, is that too much to ask? You know that I'm losing my mind when you're not around, right?"
I raise a brow. "Don't overexaggerate, Wyatt. It's not the end of the world." He makes a sad face. "And that cute look is not going to work. I'll look for other jobs that are available. And if you miss me that much, you can move in here with me, or the other way around. I don't really care."
"You got me there. Fine, I'll move in here." Wyatt grins and I roll my eyes.
From the looks of it, he really likes the idea of moving in here with me. Wyatt happily eats his cereals as he hums, his face all smiley. His eyes meet mine and his smile gets wider.
"Wyatt, I want to talk to Mia."
"I don't think that's a good idea. She doesn't want to talk to me or you." He wipes the milk off his lips before shrugging. "Believe me, I know Mia. If she's angry, she's angry. She will not talk to the people she completely hates. But it'll pass. Mia is not a bad person. She just needs a lot of time to get this fully synced into her head. A lot of things have happened, and she deserves a break from us."
"I just want to send my apologies,"
"If you want to make sure she'd receive your message, then it'd be better to send her an email." Wyatt states. "Mia always reads her emails, even though she's not supposed to. It may not look like it, but she's completely workaholic. So even if she doesn't response, it's guaranteed that she has read your email."
Wyatt grabs a piece of paper from a kitchen towel, and grabs a black pen that's randomly placed beside the microwave. He writes down Mia's email, and provides the paper to me. We continue to eat the cereals without goofing as the party has long died out when I uttered Mia's name.
After the breakfast, I immediately sit on the couch, grab my phone, and open my Email application. I think for a moment on how I should begin my email. I take a deep breath, and begin typing.
Hi Mia,
I apologize. That's the only words I can offer right now. I want to apologize for doing you wrong, because you don't deserve that. You don't deserve the pain I've caused you. I apologize for not being transparent with you, and I apologize for breaking the friendship we have. I don't even know if we became really friends. But there's one thing I will not apologize for. I know you love Wyatt, but so am I. If I would have the chance to un-love him, I wouldn't do such a thing. Just like you, Wyatt is probably the best person who came into my life.
I guess we become selfish when it comes to love.
Mia, I'm not asking you to forgive me now, but I hope you could forgive me someday. You don't have to forget about what we did, and you don't have to be friends with me, or Wyatt.
You deserve someone better. And I'm not saying this because of Wyatt and just to push you with others, but because you really deserve a man who would make you their world. Someone that isn't too stuck with their past, and someone that is not hiding who he truly is. I don't have a say regarding Wyatt's decision, but there's definitely a reason why he did what he did. I can't tell you right now because it's not my place to tell, but I hope that's something you can work out with him. Me, I guess I'm a shitty person. I guess I just got scared.
I should have told you that I loved Wyatt, and my relationship with Wyatt should have not been a secret. But if I were to have another chance to tell you the truth with the knowledge of the future consequence, I would do so.
It's okay if you don't talk to me at all in your life, but don't do this to Wyatt. You have become an important person in his life, and it saddens him, even though he's not showing it, that he lost a great friend like you. You might not know it, or aware of it, but you became his pillar and a shoulder to lean on when he was dealing with his own nightmares internally. You were there. You helped him through a lot. And that's something he'd keep forever in his heart.
Now as for me, I'm really sorry. I wish you everything positive in life, especially happiness. After all you've gone through – the pain, the feeling of betrayal, you have the right to be happy. I can't erase the pain you've felt, but you're a strong person. I hope you heal as soon as possible.
I apologize. I'm sorry. I really mean it.
Pierce
I review my email, and hope that it's good enough. I wrote this with best intention, and with a hope that Mia would be able to forgive me. After staring at the screen of my phone for a minute, I hit send as my heart races.
Wyatt takes a sit beside me, slinging his arm around my neck. I smile sadly, but lean onto his touch. My back rests against his chest, and Wyatt takes the opportunity to wrap his arms around my waist, planting a kiss on my temple. We stay cuddled up with each other, caught up with our own little world.
If I were given a chance to fall in love with Ajax Wyatt, I wouldn't deny it. I would let myself fall for him. Because we shouldn't decline the love we receive. Whether it comes from a person who we don't want to be associated with.
"Wyatt," I say his name like it's the most beautiful name in the world.
"Hmm," he hums, his fingers combing through my hair.
"I just want to say that I love you,"
I look over my shoulder to find him looking at me. His eyes are twinkling, his face lit up, and a genuine smile tugged across his lips. His cheeks are a bit pinkish, lips slightly parted. Wyatt leans forward and rests his head against mine, our noses almost touching.
"I'm glad you became part of my life."
"I'm happy I did."
"I love you."
