Chapter 24
When I wake up, Wyatt's arm is placed on my chest while his leg is on top of mine. The room is still a bit dark, but through the curtain, you can tell that it's already late in the morning. Probably around 10 or 11. I gently take his arm and leg off of me, and he lightly groans and mumbles incoherently.
Rolling off the bed, I watch him snuggle by himself and smile to myself. I look back on those times were he was harsh to me and looking at it now with my perspective today, I'm only seeing a boy who was once lost, who was once hurt. Wyatt may have not been on the right state of mind at the time, and regardless of whatever scenario he was in, he shouldn't have done that, but he just needed love, attention, care, and understanding.
Wyatt has overcome his fears and he grew into a gentleman. Well, not gentleman enough (because he still wanted to make my life harder when he became the CEO), but at least he's becoming a better person as each day passes by.
Leaving him at peace, I head over to the kitchen to make breakfast for the both of us. Wyatt hasn't told me yet of what he likes to eat in the morning - and as dirty as it sounds, I wish it would be me - but we can't have what we want. Wyatt works out and regularly goes to the gym, so he shouldn't have fatty foods. It seems like the safest option I have here is to cook eggs and bacon. Well, he doesn't have to eat bacon though. It also seems like he's going to spend most of his days here, so I better buy protein shakes and go grocery shopping for healthy foods and stuff.
After a couple of minutes, while I'm in the midst of frying eggs, a warm embraces engulfs me. A gentle groan escapes his lips as he rests his chin on my shoulder, his arms wrapped around me.
"What're you cooking?" he asks me groggily.
"Our morning breakfast: eggs and bacon."
He hums and buries his face in the crook of my neck, which slightly tickles me. He stays there, his chest pressed against my back, his arms wrapped warmly around me. Wyatt's soft breathing is like music to my ears. He doesn't say anything, doesn't do anything. It's like he has found his home, and he never wants to leave it.
"I hope you like eggs because that's the safest option I have here to cook," I say, chuckling.
"I like bacon, too." He unwraps his arms around me and proceeds to take a seat. "I like to eat what you make. And do you have coffee? I need coffee, please, baby."
The term of endearment catches my attention. A small smile plays on my lips, and a blush paints my cheeks. I'm glad that Wyatt is still sleepy and doesn't have the ability to notice small things yet. I purse my lips, preventing myself from grinning widely.
"Coming right up, sir."
"You should call me baby, too." I turn around and stare at him, only to find him sporting a smirk. I nod, hiding a smile. As I turn around, he says, "and you forgot to do something."
"What is it?" I raise an eyebrow.
"You, baby, forgot to give me my good morning kiss."
Wyatt stands up, walks towards me and stands in front of me, and crosses his arms across his chest. I just keep on staring at him until he takes another step forward.
"Aren't going to give it to me?" he asks me huskily.
I shake my head.
"Fine, you're not going to receive your salary then."
"You can't do that; it's against labour laws."
"Neither is our relationship against my company's policy, but here we are," He tangles his arm around my waist and pushes me closer. "So I guess you better give me my good morning kiss, or you won't receive your salary."
I let out a sigh and give him a peck on the lips. He furrows his brows, then his stare turns into a cute glare. Wyatt leans down and kisses me full on the lips. His palm rests on my neck and his other arm pulls me closer.
His lips never fail to amaze me. He kisses me gently but with enough force to keep me grounded, to steer me from imagining that this isn't real. His lips mold and dance against mine perfectly. My heart beats rapidly against my chest, and I hope he feels and hears it. Because he's the cause of it. He's responsible for making me one of the happiest people in the world. He's responsible for making me feel giddy over everything.
"That's how you give good morning kisses," Wyatt says after he pulls away.
"You think I should try that on Kevin?"
"If you try that on anyone else, I swear to God, Pierce, I'll - "
"Okay, okay," I chuckle, putting a finger on his lip to prevent him from spewing any unnecessary threats. "I'm not going to try that on anyone else but you. Happy?"
"Never felt better,"
"Just sit your ass over there, I'll go prepare your coffee."
"More cream, less sugar!"
"Yes, baby."
"That's more like it!"
"Are you guys, like, done PDA-ing in front of me?" Kevin announces himself.
I yelp, jumping three inches away from Wyatt. Fuck. I completely forgot about Kevin and that he stayed over here last night. I'm surprised I didn't notice him at all. He must have been sleeping on the couch the whole time, and I can't fucking believe that I made breakfast but didn't include him. I was so caught up with Wyatt that I forgot that Kevin existed, not until he showed up.
"We actually had no intention of stopping but your presence was a nuisance enough to stop us," Wyatt retorts, rolling his eyes.
"You were aware that he was still here?"
"Yes,"
"And you didn't even remind me?"
"Why would I?" Wyatt shrugs his shoulders, as if he hasn't done anything wrong. Well, he really hasn't done anything wrong today. Yet. But it would have been nice of him to tell me that I still had a fucking guest. "I mean, he was still fast asleep. Plus I thought you were aware that he was here since you were with him last night. It's not my fault you forgot about him. I mean, I can't really blame you since if I were you, I'd forget about him, too."
"That's nice of you to say in the morning, Wyatt." Kevin interrupts, glaring daggers at his boss. "You're the nicest person ever."
"Thank you. That's a natural talent."
"The two of you, shut up." I tell the both of them. "If you guys are going to argue like two kids, it's best that you go back to your moms and complain about having a bully. God, it's just morning and my day is starting to get ruined."
Kevin and Wyatt both shut up. Seriously, these two are never going to get along with each other. They're like cat and mouse, but not the Tom and Jerry version. I swear I need to prepare myself in case there'd be a time I would come across a news where a reporter is telling the entire world one man was gutted alive for being annoying. One day, one of these two would end up dead or jailed. Anyway, I think that'd be great for me. Less 2 annoying men in my life.
While the 2 men indeed both shut up, they keep glaring daggers at each other. Kevin, it seems, doesn't care about the fact that he's having a match down with his own boss that could fire him in any second. But knowing my idiot of a boyfriend, he'd show me off to him whenever he can.
And if I'm going to be honest, that's actually nice. That thought makes me smile - Wyatt showing me off to everyone, letting anybody who's anybody know that I'm his and he's mine. I mean, I get to see people's reaction. I get to see how they get jealous, how they think I'm so lucky. It's probably going to be one of the best feels I will ever feel.
"I only cooked bacon and eggs, so stuff yourself." I tell Kevin, who nods his head.
Wyatt rolls his eyes. I mouth 'behave'. He rolls his eyes again.
"After you eat, you may leave." Wyatt states, leaving no room for arguments. Kevin frowns but continues to eat, refusing to speak up. "You piss me off just by simply being here."
"Dude, you need help. Mental help."
"If you two don't really stop arguing, I'm going to kick you both out of my apartment." I narrow my eyes at Wyatt, who's about to say something. He shuts his mouth. "I don't know why you guys keep fighting each other. You're not kids anymore. We're not in high school anymore. Move on."
"I wish we were still in high school, so I could kick his ass." Wyatt mutters.
"Wyatt..." I warning.
"Fine, fine. I'm sorry." He says, followed by a whisper, "Not really."
After that awkward breakfast, Kevin hasn't left yet which pisses Wyatt off. Kevin is literally stretching his time out here, pulling the strings of Wyatt one by one. Anytime soon, a fight would break out here and I'd be caught up in between.
As if on cue, Wyatt grabs my hand, pulls me closer, and kisses me full on the lips while Kevin is watching. Mouth agape, he frowns and rolls his eyes. The kiss lasted only for a couple of seconds, but it's still one of the best kisses he gave me. Wyatt, upon seeing Kevin's reaction, smirks slyly. I swear my boyfriend is a demon-incarnate.
The doorbell buzzes, and the three of us look up. I tell Wyatt that I'm going to get it, but he insists on going with me. He slings his arm around my neck and pulls me closer. When I open the door, my eyes widen at the person in front of me.
Mia.
She looks between me and Wyatt. Slowly, Wyatt's arm falls to his side. Of course, he's just shocked as I am. At first, there's a look of confusion drawing on her face, but as each second passes by, realization dawns. My heart aches at the sight in front of me. Since the beginning, Mia has been anything but rude. She has been a friend, though we just recently met.
"Mia..." Wyatt's the first to break the silence.
"So it's him..." Mia utters, switching her eyes from Wyatt to me. I hang my head low in embarrassment, but still looking up at her through my lashes. I feel so ashamed for betraying her. Or at least that feels like betrayal. A tear slips her right eye and she takes a deep breath. "I should have known."
I try to reach for her, but she backs off, her palm landing on my cheek.
"Mia!" Wyatt immediately stands between me and her.
"I told you to watch over my boyfriend," Mia tells me, fuming as she glares daggers at me. "Not steal him. I trusted you, Pierce. I really did." Wyatt attempts to say something. "And you shut your mouth. You broke up with me without providing enough reasons, leaving me in the dark. How could you do this to me? When you were at your worst, I was there for you. I was your best friend. I loved you. I loved you with everything I am. I was doing my best to best for you. And here you are... being intimate with someone... and now I'm questioning whether those times you uttered I love you to me, were those real? Did you really love me at all?"
"I did,"
"But it wasn't enough, wasn't it?"
"Mia..."
"No, I get it, Ajax." Mia glares icily at me, her face red from anger. Her cheeks are stained with tears. "I'm so stupid for believing that you'd love me enough, that I'd be enough for you. Both of you disgust me. Especially you, you backstabbing, boyfriend-stealing, son of a bitch. You're a terrible friend." After that, she walks away, her heels clicking on the ground with a loud thud.
"Will you be alright? I have to follow her." Wyatt asks, but doesn't wait for an answer. He immediately runs after Mia. And I don't know what hurts even more. The fact that I betrayed Mia, or Wyatt running after her.
This is actually quite a big scandal. Wyatt is, of course, a CEO of a company. Not just any company, but a widely known one. So if the world has found out that he's linked himself with me, a gay person, then that would result to a bad image of him. Worst, it might lose him a lot of opportunities, business partners, and the company can come crashing down. And I can't believe that, ever since we got together, this is the only time I thought of the consequences of us dating.
He could lose his job. He could lose everything. And that's all going to be because of me. He should have never linked himself with me. He should have never dated me. Maybe Wyatt has to realize that in order to save himself, he has to unattach himself with me. I should no longer be part of his life.
Honestly, just by thinking about it, is enough to make me cry. Wyatt, when he has seen Mia crying, is so down. He knows he has done a terrible decision. He made the right choice by running after her. He shouldn't be with me in the first place. Mia is right. I'm a terrible friend.
With that thought in my head, I cry even more. The pain is my chest is unbearable. I shut my eyes and cry silently. A hand rubs my back, and Kevin's soothing voice hums me. I hug him tight, crying on his shoulder as he hugs me back.
"I'm a terrible person, aren't I?"
"No, you're not." Kevin says. "Just because one decision in your life messed things up, doesn't define you. You have good qualities. I mean, you're terrible at keeping secrets, but that's the only thing you're terrible at."
I sob even harder, and clutch on him tight. "I ruined everything, Kevin. I should have thought of the consequences before dating him. What if he has gotten himself into a scandal? He's widely known. He's a fucking CEO. Everybody knows him."
"See, you're not terrible." He tells me. "Despite what you're going through right now, you still think of what would happen to him."
"But I feel terrible right now,"
"And that's okay. You can let it all out." I continue crying, refusing to let go of Kevin.
Kevin has actually stayed the whole day. I have let him borrow my clothes, though they're quite small on him. But he manages to fit my clothes on him. Surprisingly. Kevin constantly talks to me, even though my head is thinking about the time where Mia has seen me together with Wyatt. I've stopped crying after I took a bath, but the pain is still there.
Every time I shut my eyes, Mia crying pops in front of me. Guilt takes over me. Her words replaying inside my head. You're a terrible friend. Backstabbing, boyfriend-stealing, son of a bitch. Maybe I deserve those words. Maybe I deserve the pain. Had I just distanced myself from Wyatt, this wouldn't have happened in the first place.
I think back of the time where Wyatt was being cold towards me, and when he warmed up to me. It's funny how, in a short span of time, we became really close. We ended up as boyfriends. I begin calling Wyatt, but he doesn't answer. I try several times, but to no avail, my calls return to voicemail.
"Are you still thinking about what happened earlier?" Kevin asks me, a sad smile on his face.
"I can't help it," I tell him honestly, looking down at my lap where my phone is placed, hoping that I'd receive a call back from Wyatt. "I hurt Mia real bad. It's an awful feeling. But I completely understand her. I mean, if someone did the same thing to me, I would have been furious as well. I would have done the worst. Who knows."
"Mia would understand. One day."
"I don't think so," I answer. "Things like this, it scars a person. She might understand someday, that's a possibility, but the scar would still be there. She trusted me. She trusted Wyatt. They were a couple. Mia probably thought that Wyatt was the one. So when she realized that Wyatt would never be in love with her, it hurt her. You heard her earlier. She was everything the best she could just to be the best for Wyatt. She was trying real hard. Wyatt was the source of her happiness, and I took it from her."
"You know what, we need to get out."
"Where are we going?"
"It's salary day today, so we might as well treat ourselves. My treat."
"Really? It's payday today? I didn't realize."
"That's because you were busy with him. You should probably call Melody."
I think of my best friend. Probably she's busy with her boyfriend. She spends most of her time with me, so I don't think I should bother her with my problem right now.
"Maybe I should just resign,"
"Are you stupid?" Kevin asks exasperatedly, shaking his head. "Why would you resign? Just because of this?"
"Look, I can't be around Wyatt right now. We need to distance ourselves from each other." I smile at him sadly. "Also, I want to go back home. Ever since we got back here, I realized how much I missed them, how much I missed home. So I can use this reason to stay away from him, to give us freedom to think, and be with my parents."
"Whatever your decision is, I'll support you. But you better tell your best friend. She'll berate me."
I chuckle. "Of course, I will still tell her. But it's still your treat right?"
Kevin rolls his eyes. "Yes, yes, no stop sulking and let's go out."
