Chapter 13

Author's Note: So I'm going on a vacation for 3 days and I won't be able to use internet and laptop for the mean time, which means I won't be able to write and read your comments. My friends and I are going to the beach, and it's a 12-hour drive from where I'm living. I'm already regretting it because it's a long drive, but hey, the place we're going to is definitely worth my time. If you want to see the place, you can search Caramoan on Google and see for yourself! Thank you so much and I love you all!

Chapter 13

The date with Kevin has been awesome and my mind is replaying the moments we've done on our date. We just did random stuff and not one of those well-planned date that follows everything on the list. I don't think I'd like that kind of date, but hey, if the person is special, maybe I'd like it. Maybe I'd even love it. I look back at the book with a woman on the cover – the title is The Universe of Us, which I bought in a local bookstore while Kevin was with me. We were just strolling by when we found an old bookstore with an aesthetic view and vibe. The bookstore is called Book Dome, and the sign was hanging, yellow lights placed on the edge of the wooden sign, attached to the roof of the bookstore.

By looking at the store, you would think that time has really passed by and did a toll on this store, but it's actually quite nice. Besides seeing the tall buildings and blinding lights of New York, it's nice to see a random but unique store. Most of the books that are being sold in the store are poetry, fictions, sci-fi, and romance. There's also a special section of LGBTQ2 books, which caught my attention.

"Why would there be an LGBTQ2 section when they can just put it in the category where it really belongs to? Like if this book is a romance story, then it should be put in the romance category." Kevin expressed his opinion while holding a They Both Die At The End book. His face was scrunched up in a confused manner, looking intently at the book then to me.

I shrugged. "OCD, I guess. I mean, I like to categorized my books by book titles, or if it's a series," I told him, grabbing the book from his hand and my skin lightly grazed his, which sent a shiver down my spine but I ignored it. "But I'd also like to have an LGBTQ2 section for my shelf."

"That makes sense."

"Of course I make sense." I told him, punching him playfully on the shoulder.

The Universe of Us caught my attention. They have this section where they put the Top 10 bestseller books, regardless of the genre of the book, and the book is actually at the top 3. The number 1 spot is claimed by What If It's Us?. I grabbed the poetry book, and paid for it. Kevin asked why I bought it and told him that I've always wanted to read poetry books because they're awesome.

I grab the book on my desk and turn the page to read the first entry, but there's a light tap on my desk and Mia grins at me when our eyes meet. She smiles at me, her light dimple on her left cheek showing, and her hair is done neatly. It's pulled back. She's wearing ripped jeans, white cardigan over a grey shirt, and a pair of black heels. She really is a beautiful woman.

Behind her is Wyatt, wearing a suit that makes him really look hot.

"Hey," Mia leans down and smiles widely, taking a look at the book I bought, which I immediately put on my desk, shoving it further away from her and I give her a polite smile. Wyatt has his eyes on me. "I've got a request."

I'm not really sure what to say. But I respond. "Yeah, sure."

"See, Mr. Play Boy here will be gone next Saturday," she tells me and her eyes twinkle in amusement when she looks at her man. Her man. "And I want you to keep an eye out on him. You guys will be gone for a couple of days, and I'll be staying here. He's attractive. There's a lot of girls that will be around him, and I don't want to judge, but I don't trust your old schoolmates." She winks and lets out a small but cute laugh.

Wyatt frowns and our eyes meet. I nod my head, not really sure whether she's serious or not. But when Mia looks at me again, there's no doubt she's not joking. This is for real. Wyatt doesn't seem like the type of guy where he'd purposely cheat on her girlfriend with someone else. The kiss that we've shared, it's hardly cheating. It was an accident, and I bet he already told his Mia about it and they both had a little laugh and amusement about it. And I'm glad it has not been brought up yet. Wyatt said that we still needed to talk about the kiss, but the moment for us to talk never really comes, and I hope it won't. Because the last thing I want is to talk to Wyatt about the kiss we accidentally shared and that will put us in an awkward situation. One that I'm afraid to face.

"So how was your weekend?" she chirps, her lips and eyes still smiling.

"It was awesome. I went out on a date with someone." I don't know why I had the sudden urge to boast about the date I had with Kevin. The words just came out of my mouth and now I have Wyatt's and his girlfriend's full attention.

Something in Wyatt's eyes flickers, but it quickly diminishes the moment I caught it.

"Oh, that sounds good! Spill it. With whom?" I feel awkward. Fucking kill me.

I purse my lips for a moment before looking down, finding my lap interesting suddenly. She probably knows I'm gay. Or she at least has an idea. And Mia is the kind of girl that doesn't care about the gender of a person. She's just too nice and easygoing and beautiful and awesome. She's a total package. No wonder Wyatt chose to be with her. They are perfect for each other.

Kevin crosses my mind, and I'm not sure if he'd appreciate I'm telling everyone how he turned out to be my date last Saturday. I mean, he told me he's not basically out yet. And it's up to him whether he wants to let everyone know that he's bisexual or not. I'd support him whatever he wants to choose. I'd be his friend. Like I told him before, there's nothing to come out to because it doesn't need to be a big deal. In the end, we are who we are, and that's something that you should not explain. Unless you have a bitchy attitude, then really, you need to explain that shit.

"With me." A voice cuts in and my eyes widen.

Behind Wyatt is Kevin who is grinning from ear to ear. Wyatt looks over his shoulder and glares at Kevin, who has a paper bag in his hand. He's wearing a plain black polo shirt, tucked in his jeans. His hair is surprisingly neat. He just looks like one of those good boys in the neighborhood that will casually greet you every time they see you passing by their house with a wide grin tugged on their lips and waves their at you.

Mia looks behind her and her smile widens when she sees Kevin. Kevin is attractive, really, and any straight girls and yeah, some lesbians, will definitely acknowledge that. So I can't really blame Mia for being awestruck at him, who by the way, smiles his proudest smile and winks at me. He places the paper bag on my table, and the smell of the food immediately hits my nostrils and my stomach grumbles. Luckily, no one's paying attention as both Wyatt and Mia's eyes are on Kevin. Wyatt is still glaring at Kevin, who doesn't seem to care. The thought of Wyatt beating Kevin up flashes inside my head and I fear for his life suddenly. Wyatt may be well-composed right now, but if there's one thing I'm sure about him, it's that his head is always a mess. He could be plotting Kevin's sudden death.

"I brought you some food. I cooked in the morning. Hope you like it." With that, Kevin winks at me. He turns to face Mia and Wyatt and bows his head in respect. Wyatt is still a boss. Oh fuck. Wyatt is basically his boss. "Let me know how that tastes, alright?" I nod my head at him.

As soon as Kevin is out, Wyatt turns to me and says, "I thought you weren't dating?"

"We aren't." I confirm, coughing, refusing to look him in the eyes. "We just had a date. That doesn't mean we're exclusively dating."

"He's cute!" Mia gushes as she bats her eyelashes at me.

Yes, Kevin is really cute. Of course I refuse to admit that out loud, especially when these two are around. Wyatt seems pissed. His jaw is clenched and he looks like he's about to erupt like a volcano. My eyes fall on his Adam's apple, which bobbles up and down before averting my eyes back to his face. Specifically to his lips. Oh how much I want to kiss those lips again. What the fuck are you thinking? You can't possibly thinking about his lips right in front of his girlfriend. But the moment my eyes meet his, my breath hitches. His gaze at me is so intense that it has me reeling backwards. My heart beats sporadically and I count one to ten to calm my nerves and, yes, heart.

"Anyway, we need to go. We have a lunch to catch up on." Mia states.

"Yeah, sure. I got this." I say, finally meeting Wyatt's eyes.

"Piece of advice: I'd tap that man." She winks at me and giggles, her hand going in Wyatt's arm and I shrug off the jealousy I'm feeling. "Seems like a good guy, and not to mention, a handsome one."

I shouldn't feel jealousy. For one, Wyatt is not my man. Secondly, I don't have the right to since I'm not the girlfriend and it's clearly Mia. Third, I don't want to feel this because it sucks. It sucks feeling the jealousy because you can't do anything about it but to shove it down your throat and hope that it will be gone as soon as possible. Mia is his girlfriend, and I'm no one but Wyatt's employee. Nothing more, nothing less.

Wyatt gives me one last look, his eyes lingering a little longer on me, before he turns on his heel with his girlfriend holding his arm and they both walk out, their figures disappearing as they turn the corner to ride the elevator. Once they are gone, I touch my chest where my heart is and feel the unsteady beat of my heart, and the feeling of jealousy and pain. I really need to get these feelings out of my chest. Get rid of it completely because it's stressing me out and this is scaring me. This is not healthy for me.

As decided, I tell myself that I'll go on a date with Kevin and take things maybe a bit further, like kiss him or something? Sex is not an option. I don't want to prance around and tell him that I want to have sex with him just so I can get rid of the feelings I have for Wyatt because that's inappropriate and it's rude and I'd lose my dignity over that. And Kevin wouldn't want to be used. Kevin James may be hot and he could be a horn dog, but he's the type of guy that would put boundaries and respect people. So yes, the only option here is kissing. I hope it's more world-breaking than I shared with Wyatt. I fucking hope so. Because if not, I'm fucking doomed.

When they got back, Mia's hair is a mess and Wyatt's suit is a bit disheveled, his hair too. They had a make-out session. This causes me to shut my eyes and inhale deeply, because I'm feeling the jealousy again. Who cares if they had a make-out session? For all I care. I don't give a damn about it. They can make out and I wouldn't throw a shit. But as much as I tell myself these words, the jealousy lingers in my chest, giving me a headache and a stab of pain in my heart. I refuse to look at them anymore, so I hang my head low, pick the poetry book up, and start reading. There's nothing more I should be feeling about Wyatt.

I already ate the food Kevin brought, and it was good. Really good. It's actually a Japanese dish. He made sushis for me, and it came with a note, explaining how he was able to make it. He even draw a smiley face at the end of his note and I actually chuckled at that. Now that those sushis have been devoured by me, I have nothing to eat and I need to stress-eat because of the situation I'm in.

I want to call Melody, my best friend, but I know she's busy doing work stuff and she shouldn't be bugged, especially since it's Monday today. I really miss my friends. Matt, Melody, Kevin, and the people in every cubicle on the floor. I miss the keyboard I used to type on and hit on whenever I got mad over something I couldn't control, the mouse that I used to heavily place on the desk because I was being impatient, and my two screen monitors. I miss the chattering of the people. I miss Melody's constant bullying, Matt's constant flirting with my best friend, and Kevin's goofy attitude. And to think that I can't do those because I'm stuck here in this goddamn position is stressing me more and making me sad.

"I believe we think more deeply about the universe when we're falling in love. I think the mysterious pull that draws you to another person is identical to the one that moves our eyes upward to the stars." That's the introduction of The Universe of Us. I immediately close the book because it's scaring me, like somehow it's talking to me. I can't fall in love with Wyatt. I can't fall in love with a straight guy that bullied me in high school. I can't fall in love with a guy that threatened me that he'd ruin my life. And he's ruining my life right now.

It's already six in the evening, and it's time for me to go home. Mia is still in Wyatt's office, and the whole time, I've got my earphones on in case I heard something inappropriate. Just by thinking that they could be making out, or worse, having an office sex, is enough to give me a heartache. So I hit him up on Skype and tell him I'm going home and without waiting for his answer, I go offline and leave the office already, sending a quick text to Kevin asking him if we could hangout. I leave the book on my desk since I don't want to bring it home only to bring it again tomorrow so I can read it when I'm bored. I just place it behind the CPU and pray that no one's interested in poetry so no one would take interest in it.

A few moments later, he replies saying yes.

Kevin and I meet before heading out of the building, and we head off to my unit so we can hangout. Maybe this is the opportunity that I need to grab and take things further with him, like kiss him. He has a kissable lips, it seems.

It takes almost an hour to get us in my unit because of the traffic, but we've got the whole time. When we were in a cab, Kevin was telling me a story about his friend back in his home where the said friend made a fool out of himself by dancing Gangnam Style just because he wanted to impress a girl he'd been interested on ever since the middle school. I was entertained the whole ride, so the traffic didn't really matter.

I notice when Kevin is telling a story, it's really genuine. His eyes would constantly light up when he remembers something that is really amusing to him, even though it's not, but you'd smile because he remembers it so well he's so happy. The edge of his eyes would crinkle a bit, and his lips will stretch out as he smiles, revealing his teeth. And it's cute because he has a gap between his teeth, and truth be told, it makes an additional points to his already handsome face.

When we arrive at my unit, I immediately head to the kitchen to prepare us some food. I tell him that it's just going to be bacon and eggs because I don't feel like cooking heavy meals, but Kevin agrees and says that it's more than okay. He's grinning from ear to ear while telling me this. I hide a smile using the refrigerator as a shield as I grab four eggs and the bacon strips. I have been eating a lot of meat and I haven't had the time to work out, to go to the gym, and now I'm getting flabby.

Kevin continues to tell me amusing stories about his friends while I continue to make us dinner. Kevin took off his belt and now his pants are clinging to his waist, but never really goes down. His polo shirt is now untucked, and his hair is such a mess. He's barefooted, and the way he moves around the unit, he feels like he's at home, which I don't mind really. It's nice having a company tonight. And no, it's not because of Wyatt. I've always wanted to live with someone I could get along with. Melody doesn't want to since she doesn't want to see my face every time. She meant it in a joking way, but in the end, we settled that it's not going to work for us. Melody likes to be alone sometimes.

I prepare the plates and forks for us, and tells him that dinner is ready. He runs until he's seated to the chair next to mine. I roll my eyes playfully. He grins. We both eat in silence, and Kevin gobbles the food like he hasn't been fed. Once he's done, he gives me a toothy grin and I see the gap in his teeth, which makes me chuckle.

"Thank you for keeping me company, Kevin." I tell him genuinely.

At first he smiles at me, then purses his lips. "You're welcome."

Then he makes the first move of leaning down and capturing my lips with his.
