Chapter 5
Ever since Lexington had offered to Brooklyn to make the suit, Brooklyn decided to kind of lay low for a bit and just warm up his speeding abilities.
One thing he could be grateful for is that with his lightning in his body; Brooklyn didn't even need to turn to stone anymore since the lightning gave him energy and quick healing abilities, remembering on the third day of him having his powers when first discovering it.
When it turned to morning once Brooklyn had as usual gotten onto his perch to turn to stone. But as he waited, he heard the rest of his clan changing but didn't feel anything.
Brooklyn's eyes rounded in shock from how his skin hadn't even felt like stone at all, and watched as the sun came up over the horizon. Some small tears came down his face at the beautiful sight, like Hudson having always wanted to see it. But he had a lot of questions to ask Xanatos though.
Running inside at a normal speed the best possible, he encountered Fox who was startled to see him. "Brooklyn, what's going on? Aren't you supposed to be in stone sleep by now?"
The red gargoyle soon shrugged. "I dunno if it has anything to do with my new powers, but... I just can't change at all. This is something I need to talk to your husband over with."
Fox nods, gesturing to Brooklyn to follow her. "Yes, he's in his study." Brooklyn followed the red haired woman in her wake, hoping David really will have some kind of answer.
When they arrived at his office; Xanatos looked up from his desk and saw to his surprise Brooklyn there but without his stone sleep. "Well, this is a surprise. What are you doing not in your stone sleep right now?"
Brooklyn felt himself go a little red while rubbing the back of his neck. "Well... uh... I think my super speed is keeping me from being able to." He revealed, much to Xanatos' surprise but then he remembered Talon and the others.
"Do you recall how Sevarius used the electric eels as part of the mutates creation so they didn't need to eat so much or have stone sleep either?" Xanatos questioned, making Brooklyn nod but his heart panged when remembering the one mutate girl he wanted to be with, Maggie but lost her to Talon. "I've been thinking that your body is now full of that lightning that struck you and have given you your speed powers that you no longer need the stone skin for rejuvenation."
The red male was stunned by this but then he thought about it. Maybe it would help the clan protect the city better with him being flesh during the day. He gave a smile, knowing this was really going to come in handy. Later on when he told Goliath Goliath was also startled by this revelation, but soon slowly accepted it and just told Brooklyn he hoped he would be safe.
....
Back in the present, Brooklyn was being led by Lexington into the room where he and Xanatos were making the new speed suit. "I'm really excited to show you this, Brook! Me and Xanatos had been looking at every drawing board on how to ensure you are able to wear the suit well!"
Brooklyn gives a smile. "I can't wait to see it Lex, with your smart mind, I'm sure you came up with something awesome."
Xanatos went over to a pair of metal doors where he stored the suit, pressing a couple buttons. "Despite this having taken us weeks to make, we've finally made something I feel is suited to your liking."
The doors opened, Brooklyn waiting for what he was about to see. What was in the closet; was the coolest looking suit he saw in his life. The colors of the suit matched his skin which was red along with grey highlights, and what looked like a lightning bolt on the chest part of the suit.
Brooklyn's smile grew bigger, reaching out to touch the suit, feeling like strong leather. "Guys, this is really cool, thanks so much!" He said, pulling it out to measure it alongside his body. "Will my wings fit through this?"
Lexington nodded, pointing to the two holes in the back and one near the bottom for his tail. "Yes, since we don't want your wings to be stuck inside the suit." He said with a laugh while Xanatos helped Brooklyn get into the suit. It took some time especially with the wings but Brooklyn managed to slip inside, his heart thumping.
So far the suit felt rather comfortable, looking down and seeing his feet in the claw shaped boots on the bottom, putting the hood on over his head with two holes on the head for his horns, stuffing his hair inside.
Brooklyn went to look into the mirror, seeing himself look like something out of a comic book since once he had read the Flash ones. "Whoa... I can't wait to try this out!" He proclaimed with his smile growing bigger.
Xanatos points to what looked like an advanced treadmill. "I made this for you to help track your speed limit." He said, Brooklyn going over and stepping onto the treadmill, Lex excited to see his brother's speed close up. Xanatos started the treadmill from outside the little room, and Brooklyn began running on it. He kept going faster and faster, his face straining slightly from the strain of it all but continued, Xanatos staring when the treadmill's number read 900 miles per hour.
"That's the fastest I've ever seen anybody run..." Lexington breathed in disbelief as eventually too Brooklyn surpassed 1,000 miles per hour until he eventually halts in his running, panting but looking happy, the suit having not gotten any friction. Even though he hardly wore clothes this was an exception.
He exited the treadmill room. "Can I please bring this out to test on the field? I promise not to damage it." Brooklyn begged. Looking at each other, Lexington and Xanatos soon nod, knowing Brooklyn was usually happier out in the city on patrols than cooped up in the castle. The red male grins at them all before soon zipping out of the building.
Along the streets of the city, Brooklyn couldn't help but let out a happy cheer while making his rounds. Even if he didn't have a mate, his speed helped him feel more free than he ever did in his life.
Brooklyn even tried flying with his super speed, raising his wings, taking off during the biggest part of it, and he yelped from the speed elevating his gliding abilities, soaring about above the buildings with it until his sharp hearing heard an explosion.
Halting in mid air then landing on a building, Brooklyn looked about until spotting what looked like smoke at the bank. His eyes narrowed. He longed for action in so long. Zipping over, Brooklyn arrived at the bank in about a second, encountering chaos.
There was more smoke and even fire coming from the bank doors, people screaming as he saw a figure in the smoke carrying a couple large bags, possibly full of money. Brooklyn bared his teeth. Maybe it was Thailog trying to rob more money for himself. Clenching his fists, he charged forward towards the culprit, tackling him to the ground.
Upon closer inspection after the tackle, Brooklyn stared in shock when he realized it wasn't a gargoyle at all, but some kind of humanoid mutated rat with blue fur. The rat growled at him interrupting his heist. "Well, well, well. One of Sevarius' creations finally attempted to attack one of their own!" He sneered, using his foot to knock Brooklyn off.
Brooklyn huffed from his breath knocked out of him, glaring hard at his new rival. "I'm not a creation, I'm a pure bred gargoyle. And you're under arrest for attempted theft!" He threatened.
The rat mutate simply smiled slyly, smoke starting to protrude from his paws. "Sorry, I have no time to visit the police." He suddenly shot the smoke at Brooklyn who winced, shutting his eyes so it wouldn't get into them, coughing heavily as the mutate rat suddenly teleported away. When the smoke cleared, Brooklyn couldn't see him anymore, grunting in frustration, hoping Talon will have some answers on who this guy was, seemingly having super powers like his own but being able to control smoke.
....
I'm still trying to binge all of the Arrowverse which really takes forever to finish but I'm eager to get to the first big crossover Invasion.
Hope I described Brooklyn's new suit alright and the new mutate in the city.
