Chapter - 4
Myra's POV
"Mam we have reached" my trance was broken by driver's professional tone.
I took deep breath to look forward. There was glorious Singhania Mansion standing in front of me.
Driver opened door for me and I stepped down. My heart was thudded inside my ribcage with every step.
'Why life is so strange, when I thought everything is fine. Everything is sorted out. Destiny again trapped me in her games.'
'Wow, today I am getting married. Or am I getting sacrificed on the name of humanity.'
'Whatever it is I have no regrets, I am doing this only for two precious gems I have in my life.'
'What is an irony of my life, even today, I am alone.'
"This way Ms. Sehgal" one of maid showed me way towards study room.
Deadly silence of the house formed sweat droplets on my forehead.
Study room's door opened and I felt huge burden on my heart. My legs started wobbling as I lost strength of my body. My vision became blurred.
I closed my eyes for a moment to gain equilibrium of my mental state.
'I have to do it. I will do it.' Again I chanted gulping my own unshed tears.
When I opened my eyes, I was already standing in middle of the study room.
I could see Mr. Dev Singhania sitting on arm chair, besides him there was one old person, I guess he is the Marriage Registrar, and then there was one more man sitting beside them, Niren. My would be husband's brother.
All turned to look at me.
"Welcome Myra. Come here. Have a seat." Dev Singhania offered with warm smile.
His voice and Niren as well gave brief look at me.
I nodded my head and took step. I sat there without any word. They kept on discussing something but my mind was wondering elsewhere.
"Dad, Mom is not coming downstairs. She has headache." My ears captured Niren's calculated voice.
"That's ok. Let her take rest." Dev Singhania in his famous nonchalant tone.
"Niren, call your brother to ask where is he?"
I licked my dried lips on the mention of his name. His name always gave me goosebumps which I hate.
"He is here. He is parking his car." Niren cut call.
'Shit. Finally its the time to face him.'
My heart started running with jet speed.
Neil entered inside study room carrying Neev's carseat.
I glanced at little innocent baby, he was sleeping with pouty face. 'Was he crying earlier?'
Neil took a seat besides mine with stone face. My eyes were moving towards Neev's sleeping figure.
"Should we start Mr. Singhania." Registrar broke the silence of the room.
It was curt nod from Neil.
"Mr. Neil Singhania, do you take Ms. Myra Sehgal as your legally wedded wife?"
"Yes" it was straightforward, cold, with no emotions.
"Ms. Myra Sehgal, do you take Mr. Neil Singhania as your legally wedded husband?"
Tears threatened to come out from my eyes. I blinked continuously to push them back. 'This is not what I had expected.'
"Ms. Myra Sehgal, do you take Mr. Neil Singhania as your legally wedded husband?" Registrar asked me again.
"Yes" it was faint, I hope it was audible for him.
"You both need to sign these papers." He forwarded few papers and pen.
Neil took pen and signed with out even thinking anything.
But I took brief glance of his stone face. His tired dark circled eyes told me stories about his sleepless nights. He had lost weight over last few months. He was broken beyond repair.
He passed pen without even looking at me. I completed rest formalities trying to fight with my inner turmoil.
"Congratulations Mr. and Mrs. Neil Singhania. Have a great married life together." Registrar forwarded his hand to Neil which he completely ignored to move towards his son who was awake by now.
I forced my self to give small smile to old man.
After some more talks Registrar left and Niren went out along with him.
"Take care. And if you need anything I am just a call away." Dev Singhania tapped on my head.
"Sure. Sir"
"Dad. I will love to hear 'Dad' from you."
This is getting emotional now. Post my parent's divorce, my own biological father disgusted whenever I called him Dad. But now some stranger asking me to call him as father.
To be precise my father in law.
"I will try" again a whisper from me.
"I know you will do it." when I looked into his eyes, he was staring at his son and grandson. That moment I realized hidden meaning of his words.
'Isn't it too much optimism on his part?'
"I am leaving" Neil picked Neev in his arms.
"Have dinner with family and then leave."
"Should I take this as an order Dad? Or request?"
'Are these father and son always in battlefield?'
"You got married today..."
"I AM LEAVING" his voice was low yet enough to give shivers to my entire body.
He gave tough competition to his father in glaring contest before started taking steps towards door.
'Should I go behind him or should I wait?'
I heard soft baby sound due to which I lifted my eyes and there I found the most precious thing of my life.
Neev.
He was smiling at me raising his hands telling me to take him in my arms.
'Did he recognize me? Of course he did.'
'I was the first one to hold him after his birth even before his biological mother. I had requested senior doctor to assist him during Meera's delivery. I was thrilled, when I had held him for the first time. He was so delicate, innocent.
'How could Meera leave him? I never understood that girl. Even though Meera was self-centred it was least expected for me that she could leave her just born son, her happy family for her selfish reasons.'
'Being premature baby Neev was in NICU after his birth for almost a month. I was the one who stayed with him day and night. This baby is my life, I can do anything for him. My world revolves around him.'
'I don't know why but he always swirled motherly emotions inside me. But now I can officially call him as My baby. My Neev.'
Neil stared at his son's gestures. He passed quick glance at me. He turned his back taking fast steps towards door.
Neev screamed loudly and started crying while looking at me as his father increased distance between us. He was raising his hands over his father's shoulder.
Neil stopped in his tracks. "I said, I am leaving." This time his voice was intimidating. I understood this declaration is for me.
I quickly took blessings from his father. He stood there baffled for a moment when I touched his feet.
Even though I was born and brought up in Canada Granny and Mumma made sure to inculcate our native values and beliefs in me.
"Go. Take care." He tapped my cheeks. His eyes sparkled for a moment which I could not decode.
When I turned, I saw Neil. He was looking at me with creased forhead. Shaking his head he turned and started taking fast steps.
I followed him but I could felt his father's eyes glued on us.
When we came out not sure what happened to Neil but he passed Neev to me. Till, now Neev was giving him tough time, as he wanted to come in my arms from the moment he saw me.
And the moment that little boy came in my arms, he stopped crying but giggling, burring his head in my chest.
'Ohh that feel surreal. He is my baby now.'
I ran to match my steps with Neil who was walking ahead of us which earned melodious loud giggles from Neev.
Neil unlocked the car.
I kept Neev in his car seat buckled him properly and sat beside him on back seat where as Neil was on driving seat.
And we three as a family were moving towards our home.
Our new life.
Neev's giggling sound was breaking silence of the car. In our journey I did not miss to see Neil's eyes on his son from rear mirror. I saw small smile on his face when he observed his son was busy in playing with his car seat toys.
Neev was holding my one finger in his tight grip and with other hand he was pushing rattle.
Our car entered inside iron gates and while crossing beautifully landscaped front yard, it halted in front of beautiful two storey house.
'But Neil and Meera used to live in downtown's penthouse. When did he move here? Is this his home?'
Neil parked car, I held Neev, he was mewling and brushing his face in the crook of my neck.
"He looks tired." I talked to my self.
"It's his sleeping time." Out of nowhere Neil replied.
I followed him silently. Julia welcomed us with bouquet of white Lillies which was again ignored by Neil and I was left behind to pass cover up smile.
Without any word Neil took Neev from me. His hand brushed over mine leaving me with tinkling sensations. I bit my lower lip.
He straight went upstairs.
And I felt void, when I lost touch of my baby.
My eyes were roaming around surroundings to grasp new changes. So this is my home now onwards.
"Welcome Mrs. Singhania" she passed bouquet to me. I took it with hesitation.
"Please come, I will show you your room."
"Please call me Myra Julia aunty." She stared at my face for few moments before passing a small smile followed with nod.
"But my bags?"
"Don't worry, guards will take care of it. This way."
She took me upstairs.
"This is Neil's room. This is Neev's nursery and this one will be yours." She opened the third door.
"Thanks Julia Aunty" I passed smile after glancing at my room which was neatly organized and cleaned.
"Do you need anything?"
"No I am ok."
"Please get your self fresh, I will set dinner, come downstairs."
"Sure."
Thanks to guards they have already kept my bags in walking closet. I took a long shower. Changed into simple t-shirt and track pant.
I came downstairs where I saw Neil. He was alone on dining table.
I felt pang in my heart when I saw him lost in his thoughts. There was untouched plate in front of him but his eyes were at nowhere. They were void.
May be my presence broke his trance he turned to look at me. His eyes, that moment I realized Neev has his father's eyes.
He stared at me with no emotions.
'Is he trying to search something or someone?'
Just a thought added extra to my hatred for my twin sister.
Suddenly he got up from his chair. He passed me to leave dining area.
"Neil, please have your dinner."
"Thanks to your presence. But I am not hungry anymore." He did not even cared to turn to me.
I kept on staring at his retreating figure. Tears started rolling over my cheeks.
'Was this the day I dreamt from my teenage?'
'Obviously No'
'Big no'
