Chapter - 15
Myra felt soft small touch on her cheeks. Touch she was craving for from long time. Her nose sharply inhaled his smell which increased her urge to open her eyes with hope to see her baby. She tried hard, fought with her inner weakness and somehow opened her eyes slowly. Due to bright light of the room, dryness in her throat, weakness in her whole body she blinked her eyes and with all her efforts finally she opened it to see her most precious possession.
'Neev'
"Mumma" he was calling her from long.
When he got up today morning, he again searched for his mother but she was no where to found. He started crying but now after whole one day he was seeing her in front of him. Though she was sleeping, her mere presence around him engulfed him with secured feelings.
He was stopped by Julia for long time but he was touching her cheek calling her. He did not understand why his mother was sleeping but he stayed besides her not leaving her.
"Ne.. Neev" Myra could hardly mumble. She saw his blurry image and just his thought gave her strength to open her eyes fully to take a good look of her son.
She gulped heavily. He was sitting on Julia's lap raising his hands to her. His continuous jumping was making it difficult for Julia to hold him securely.
For a moment she thought she was dreaming about him. She remembered, Neil's words last night. His cruelty filled her eyes with tears.
Last night she was roaming on stormy night with out any destination, she herself did not realize when she stumbled and fell unconscious on the ground.
When in morning she first opened her eyes, she saw nurse injecting some medicine in her saline.
"Myra, how are you my daughter?" She heard warm kind voice from other side. She felt some one caressing her hairs.
She made efforts to turn it was her father in law. She looked at him in bewilderment. After few moments of silence she gathered her self to face Dev.
"What were you doing on the roads?" He asked.
But Myra become tongue tide.
"Dr. Andrew had confirmed me last night that he dropped you at home. So what happened?"
Myra was still searching for words but her eyes filled with tears when moments from last night replayed in front of her eyes.
"Is Neil responsible for your situation?"
She turned to her father in law.
"N... No...No" she lightly shook her head not meeting her eyes with Dev. But her pale face, teary swollen eyes, mild fever was telling exact opposite story to Dev. He shook his head in disappointment.
"I am sorry." Dev could hardly muttered drowned in his guilt to push this girl in hell. He walked out to ask answers to his son. Where as due to medicine dose Myra again slept in deep slumber.
She kept her eyes on her baby thinking if she blinked he will disappear.
"Mumma" Neev tried to jump on her bed.
"Neev, Mumma is ill. She needs rest. Stay here else I will take you out." Julia caressed his hair and conveyed with care but Neev was stubborn like his father.
"Mumma" this time he scream little loudly.
But her shriek earned small smile on Myra's face.
"I am sorry dear. I will take him out. You rest." Saying Julia got up but Neev turned and started wiggling in her arms with his all strength.
"Neev. Stay." She spoke in very tired tone but was audible to Julia.
Myra raised her hands and next moment Neev jumped over her.
"Mumma" he caressed her cheeks.
"My baby" she kissed his cheeks.
He mewled like kitten in her chest. She felt solace when he was in her arms.
His little moments felt ticklish to her which acted as immidiate remedy to her crumbled heart. She clutched his little figure in her arms tightly not letting anyone to take away her baby.
Dev and Julia were looking at their bond with teary yet smily faces.
One pair of eye was looking at both with apologetically through glass window hiding himself behind door.
After long time with Neev, Myra realized it was time for her Granny's last rituals.
She did not gather courage to ask about sudden appearance of Neev and Julia.
When Neev slept in Myra's arms, Julia took him and Dev helped to go to cremation centre to give her final goodbye to her grandmother.
Dev stood with her as her support.
"You are not alone Myra. Your Dad is with you." Dev caressed her hairs. For the first time in her life Myra felt blessed with fatherly care.
She cried her heart out in his fatherly embrace.
"You are coming home. I am not letting my daughter to go away anywhere." Myra looked at him abruptly.
She had not voiced out anything about her and Neil's quarrel. But looking at determined and stoned face of Dev she guessed somehow her father in law got to know what happened last night.
"I pushed you in black hole, but now, I will only take you out of it." She could not understand his words but did not gather courage to contradict as well. She was tired, she was exhausted fighting with her hope which died last night.
She felt being followed by a pair of eyes form Hospital to Cremation centre. She checked her surroundings but no one was there.
After completing formalities for her late grandmother, Dev again brought Myra back to hospital. Doctors have advised her to return back to hospital for few tests. They were discharging her post all tests results.
Neev was awake when she came back to her hospital room after her blood test.
He jumped in her arms. He carefully took a look of her face. His little heart did not understand what was happening around him but he understood one thing that his mother was sad. He kissed her cheek and stayed in her lap playing with her fingers.
"What are you doing here Neil?" Dev asked from back. Neil was looking at his wife and son from window glass.
He did not gather words to answer.
"Don't worry, I will take my daughter back home."
"I... I... I am sorry Dad."
"Why are you saying sorry to me? It's Myra whom you need to apologize."
"Neev needs Myra Dad. Please." Neil knew without Myra he won't be able to handle his son now.
"No Neil. You have lost that right."
"Dad please."
"No Neil. I don't trust you with Myra now. I don't know what you will do next time to hurt her. I can't allow you to be near her." Dev was firm with his stand.
"Dad please for Neev." Tears started rolling down his cheeks. His guilty eyes were not hidden from Dev.
"I am not the one who will decide it. If Myra forgives you and agrees to stay with you in this marriage then only. Else I don't care." Dev blurted out but one part of his heart wanted Myra to forgive his son and start new life towards bright future. But this time he will not pressurize her with anything, this has what Dev decided.
He scrutinized his son's face which was engrossed in deep thinking.
In morning when Dev gave him reality check his heart flooded with guilt for his last night's behaviour. Neil was never short tempered or rude or cruel person but situations, his past experiences turned his personality significantly.
He started facing deep depression, he was on anti depressant pills which was not known to anyone. His mind built up insecurity and inferiority complex.
'I had given everything to Meera. I loved her like a mad man. My only wish was to have a happy small family for threes of us. I brought the world down to her feet but still she left me. Was I at the fault any time? Did I not love her enough to make her stay with me? She married with me for her own reasons but why couldn't' I change her intensions with my love?' These thoughts used to haunt him shaking his self confidence from his roots.
Neil was very intelligent, responsible yet successful businessman. He had proved himself in very short span of time but he was too emotional and sentimental persona when it comes to his heart. And Meera killed his heart with her betrayal.
His failure in business, loss of important deals due to Meera's double cross created inhibitions for his professional career. He was achiever once upon a time but her betrayal inculcate feelings of loser in him.
Till today, he could never give proper closure for his bitter past. His mind was still wondering around Meera as she left without answering any of his questions. His mind abhorred her but his heart was still waiting for it's answers.
Fight between his mind and heart took a toll on him impacting his usual calm personality.
When his father proposed or we can say forced him to marry Myra. She became his prey to dump all his frustrations, miseries, anguish. Her face reminded him of Meera's betrayal.
His heart used to whisper in low that she is different personality and may not be like her sister but his mind always overpowered his heart.
Whenever he hurt her, his sub conscious used to curse him but clutches of his bitter past held their power over him. He always looked at Myra from Meera's lenses. He thought her to be same as her cunning and selfish sister.
But today when his father gave him reality check, his sub conscious dominate over his mind. His brief and quick moments over last couple of months played in front of his eyes increasing his guilt over his last night's behaviour.
After long battle between his heart and mind, he came to a conclusion. His son needs Myra.
Niren was right when he accepted this truth, his mind started looking into past moments with different perspective.
'She will be good mother to my Neev.' His heart whispered.
He closed his eyes tightly to gain his mental and emotional equilibrium. Dev was scrutinizing his facial expressions to analyze and peep in his mind.
Neil opened his eyes with determination. Looking at his son's eyes Dev's lips stretched in small smile.
Neil turned knob and entered inside Myra's hospital cabin.
Door opening sound broke mother and son's moment, she raised her eyes to see Neil.
He was looking everywhere but not at her.
Neev's baby voice was only source of breaking the deadly silence of the room.
'Is he going to take him away from me?' Myra tighten her hold over Neev's body. She started shivering with just a simple thought of being away from her son.
After long pause, Neil gulped heavily. "I... I... am... I am sorry for last night."
He confessed not looking at her.
Myra's heart stopped for a moment hearing his words. She gaped like fish not able to find any words. Finally she decided to stay silent.
He licked his dried lips leaving deep sigh.
"I know... Whatever I did last night was unforgivable. And I am not asking for your forgiveness." He finally turned to look in her wide open eyes.
"But Neev cannot stay without you. And he is the only reason of my survival." Myra's eyes filled with tears. She batted her eyelashes to push her tears back. She did not want to cry in front of him.
"Dad wants you to go to his home but can... can you?"
"I promise... nothing like last night will happen again."
Myra could not believe his words. His dark brown eyes which used to mesmerize her during her teen were flooded with tears, helplessness. He was a man who had lost every battle of his life. Her heart felt pang.
But her self-respect which he crushed last night by pointing on her character hampered her decision making power. She turned her face other side gulping hard.
"Mumma" Neev touched her chin and made her look at him.
He pointed out towards his father who was standing few feet away from them and called out. "Da...Dadda"
It was for the first time Neev called his father. His simple call spread bright smile on Neil's face. Unknowingly, he took steps towards his wife and son. He took Neev in his arms.
"My baby" he kissed all over his face.
"Dadda" Now Neev was smiling with his heart. His giggles spread sudden ecstasy in earlier dull room.
Myra turned to see smiling faces of Neil and Neev. They both were lost in their world of happiness. Her heart filled with euphoric emotions.
After a long moment, Dev knocked and entered. He saw his son smiling with his heart after a long time holding his grand son.
"Myra, we can go home now." Dev did not wanted to burst the happy bubble of these three. But he was aware about harsh reality of their life.
His one statement swiped away floor beneath Neil's feet.
He exchanged his eyes between his wife and father with out any clue. His heart was thudded with fear.
"Dad, I... I... will go to... I will go with Ne... I will go with Neev." Her statement was not clearly audible to any one of them.
"Myra?" Dev asked caressing her hairs. "I don't want you to pressurize yourself."
"Dad, during my childhood, I was raised by single mother." She licked her lips, gaped like fish to search for words.
"My father, however he was but.... My Mumma loved me with all her heart but still there was some emptiness. Some hollowness of fatherly figure in my childhood. I don't want Neev to have the same feelings." Finally one tear rolled over her cheek. She wiped it immediately but one pair of eye had already captured it.
Neil's mind again compared Myra with Meera but this time it shouted pointing out antithesis between the two.
