CHAPTER 11
Emily's pov
I freeze. Chills start running down my spine. Is this it? Am I going to die?
I never pictured myself going out like this. I always thought I would die of old age, on a bed, surrounded by my grandchildren.
I hear the clanking of heavy footsteps approaching me from behind.
I don't dare move, because I know if I run, I will easily be caught in seconds, and that might anger the creep behind me.
The footsteps stop, and I feel a warm breath fan my neck.
"What are you doing here Emily?" The weird voice whispers in my ear.
I am shocked and horrified, how does this person know my name?
My heartrate quicks and I turn around to face them.
With a horrified look on my face, I raise my head and find Axel standing behind me, trying to conceal his laughter.
What?!
Why would he do such a thing?!
But no matter how angry I am, I can't deny that I'm relieved to find him behind me, instead of a creepy old homeless man.
That's why the voice sounded so weird to me.
"It was you wasn't it?!" I ask.
"You tried to scare me!" I accuse.
"Well I wouldn't say tried, judging by the look on your face, I succeeded." He smirks.
"Just so you know, your American accent was horrible." I smirk.
"Oh please, you were fooled." He replies, mirroring my smirk.
"Why would you do that anyway?" I ask.
"To teach you a lesson. You shouldn't be walking around here alone at night, it's dangerous Emily." He says, sounding concerned.
He's concerned about me? Just this morning he treated me as if I didn't exist, now he wants to care. He's so confusing.
"Why does it matter to you? And how did you find me anyway?" I bombard him with questions.
"Why wouldn't it matter to me?" He asks.
This guy is driving me crazy! One minute I matter, the next I don't. Make up your mind already.
"After what happened last night, and you ignoring me all day, I don't know, I thought you didn't want anything to do with me..." I trail off.
"Let's put that behind and try to be friends, I mean it's kinda hard to ignore someone who lives right across from you, don't you agree?" He asks, smiling softly.
"Yeah, I guess you're right." I say, and smile back.
"Oh and to answer your question, I was dropping Liam off at his house a couple blocks away, and I saw you enter this alley. I couldn't let you walk here alone." He says, looks down, and awkwardly shifts his weight from one foot to the other.
I can tell doing kind gestures isn't a usual thing he does.
"Well thank you, I appreciate it." I smile and start walking.
"Where are you going?" He asks, his voice heavy with confused.
I turn around to face him, just as confused as he is.
"Home obviously." I reply. "Aren't you going to walk with me?" I ask.
He just told me he didn't want me to walk alone, now he's asking where I'm going?
"You forgot I have a motorcycle didn't you?" He asks, trying not to laugh.
"Oh..." I reply.
I completely forgot. I never thought I would have to ride on that deathtrap again.
No matter what the situation is, the universe is somehow always crossing our paths, and somehow making us closer.
Two weeks ago I would have never gone near a motorcycle, especially not one that comes with a huge bad boy.
But now I find myself walking with him to where he parked his motorcycle, and getting on.
"Hold on tight princess!" He says with a cheerful voice.
Princess... why do I like him calling me that?
I used to laugh at cringey couples who used those silly nicknames...
I wrap my arms around Axels waist and we take off.
When we reach our street, Axel stops in front of my house.
I get off the motorcycle, careful not to trip this time, remove my helmet and face him.
"I enjoyed this ride better than I did last time." I hesitantly say and smile.
"Just you wait, a couple rides later you're gonna be begging me to take you on rides all the time." He winks.
"You wish!" I laugh and shove his shoulder playfully.
I look down and realise that the helmet I wore is still in my hands.
"Here." I give him the helmet.
"Keep it. I have a feeling you'll use it more than anyone I know." He smiles.
My stomach does that weird thing again... So he plans on giving me more rides?
I somehow know he's right. I accept the helmet and look at my house.
"I have to go in now, my mom is probably worried." I say.
"Thanks for the ride." I smile and turn around.
"Night Brown." I hear him say from behind me.
"Night Axel." I reply and enter my house.
I walk in and find my mom sitting on the couch in the livingroom flipping through channels on the tv.
Judging by the look on her face, I know she saw what happened outside.
"Oh what's that you got there honey?" She asks, trying to sound clueless.
"Oh this?" I look down and smile.
"It's nothing mom, you don't need to worry about it." I say and go upstairs.
