Glorybringer
Talons thumped down on the wooden floor. Hard. Glory's eyes snapped open. "Hey, Glory," Deathbringer said loudly, clomping across the floor to her.
Glory winced at the noise he was making. "You know, for an assassin you're not being very stealthy," she commented softly.
Deathbringer shrugged. "Not any more, so I don't have to worry, do I?" he asked, a mischievous twinkle in his eyes.
Glory rolled her eyes and sighed. "What are you going to do now?" she asked with an exasperated groan. Deathbringer grinned at her, grabbed her talons and whisked her out of the hut and into the trees, laughing.
Glory yelped as he swept her up, past the canopy, into the skies above. "I'm the queen, you frog-brain!" she grumbled.
"Oh, I'm sorry, Your Majesty," Deathbringer teased. He let go of her talons and flew around her. As the silver scales on his wings flashed like stars, she saw him flick his tail. A movement so slight she would never have noticed it if she was not watching him so closely.
RainWings materialized all around them, their scales shimmering with every colour. Each held on to brightly coloured ribbons. Then NightWings were swooping around them, adding their cheers to the RainWings'.
"What--" Glory began.
Deathbringer interrupted her, taking both her talons in his. "Glory..." he started. The RainWIngs and NightWings had fallen silent. "Will you be my mate?" Deathbringer asked.
Glory stared into his eyes. She found that they reflected the love she felt for him--in that instant, she knew that he loved her just as much as she loved him. "Yes," she whispered. "I will."
At once a cheer went up from the watching dragons, and Glory felt her scales heat up as Tsunami, Sunny, Clay, Starflight and Fatespeaker burst up from behind the crowd, smiling. Tsunami flitted over to Glory and nudged her. "Knew you had a soft spot," she laughed.
"Well, next thing we know, you and Riptide are going to have dragonets," she shot back. Warmth filled her as Deathbringer twined his tail around hers and the two of them soared off into the sky, one black as night, the other shimmering with colour.
"Hey Glory?" Deathbringer whispered. Glory tilted her head at him. "If we have a dragonet who's a female, let's call her Firefly."
"Why Firefly?"
"Because fireflies are as pretty as you," he replied.
