Chapter 2
Luckily my room isn't too far from the co-ed bathrooms but it's far enough that I would hate to ever have to find my way back in only a towel. When I enter the grey titled restroom, I immediately snag the first shower stall by hanging my belonging on the hook. I step inside and strip out of my restrictive clothing before turning on the water.
As I rinse the shampoo from my hair, I hear the shower beside me turn on. My heart quickens a little, but my nerves settle quickly as I place conditioner through the ends of my hair. I pin my hair up with a large clip before grabbing my bar of soap. When I press the bar against my wet skin it slips from my grip and hits the floor before sliding into the shower stall next to me. "Shit!"
I bend down to see if I can grab it and quickly notice the pair of masculine legs from under the stall. My heart beat picks up as I debate whether or not to ask for his help. However, before I can, he bends down and holds it out towards my stall. "I think you dropped this love."
His voice has a hint of a British accent and I immediately feel my cheeks heat up at his choice of words, love?
"Thank you," I say just above a whisper as I take the soap.
"You're welcome," he responds as his hand disappears from my sight.
With my soap returned I finish washing my body and rinse the conditioner from my hair before turning the water off. I peak my head out to grab my towel and notice that it and my clean clothes now lay drenched on the bathroom floor. "I just can't catch a break, can I?" I mumble to myself.
"You alright love?" The guy in the stall next to me peaks his head out from the shower.
"All my stuff is soaked."
"Eh, that's why no one uses the first stall love."
When I turn to look at him, he's wearing a smirk, but it quickly fades when he sees the desperation present in my eyes. "What am I supposed to do?" I feel tears pooling as I kneel down while keeping my exposed body hidden with the curtain. My trembling hand wraps around the soaked towel before I disappear back into the stall.
"Love?" he asks worriedly.
"Yes?"
"My towel is clean and dry would you like to use it? I don't mind if it's a bit wet." His voice is calm, not mocking like it had been only minutes sooner. "Love?"
"You'd do that?"
"Of course. I can see you're pretty beat up about yours being wet, I don't see a problem with sharing. You can even wear the sweats and t-shirt I have on the sink counter if you want. Pretty girl like you shouldn't have to walk back to the dorm in nothin' but a towel."
"Thank you," I choke the words out before reaching outside the stall again for his towel.
"I'm Oliver by the way. If we be sharing a towel, I think we best be on first name bases at least." I can't see him, but I know he's smiling by the playfulness in his tone.
"Adelaide or Addy for short," I offer.
"I think I prefer Adelaide. Addy is cute and all, but Adelaide sounds strong and you look like a strong girl."
I just cried over a soaking wet towel, how could he think I am strong?
Unsure of what to say I continue drying off my body before wrapping the towel around my myself to walk outside the stall. There is only one bag on the counter, so I snag it before running back into the stall. I hang the towel for Oliver then quickly slip into his sweatpants and black t-shirt, leaving the black boxer briefs in the bag. With a sigh I walk out of the shower stall and to the counter with my belongings.
As I floss my teeth, I notice Oliver's arm peak outside his stall to retrieve the towel. "Hey love?"
"Hmm?"
"Unless you stole my knickers to, you mind handing them to me."
My cheeks heat with embarrassment as I grab the bag. "Here," I say when I walk in front of his stall.
Poking his head out he smirks at me as he takes the bag and disappears back behind the curtain.
Smiling to myself I shake my head and return to my oral care. When I begin brushing my teeth Oliver exits his stall in only his underwear, his wet towel already shoved into the bag. "Do you have an extra tooth brush by chance?"
I nodded my head yes as I reach into my toiletry bag for an unused toothbrush. When I find one, I hold it out for him, and he quickly accepts it.
"Toothpaste, love?"
"Right," I mumble with my own toothbrush between my teeth before handing him the tube.
We brush our teeth in complete silence, but I can feel his eyes on me in the mirror, when I look up at his reflection he quickly averts his eyes. It's my turn to study him, my eyes rake over his exposed abdomen. With each breath the muscles stretch his skin, he doesn't have a bulging six back, but one is definitely present. My cheeks begin to heat up and it is my turn to avert my eyes, he is incredibly attractive. His dark brown eyes stand out against his lighter complexation and his hair is on the longer side but well kept.
"How do I get these back to you?" I ask while gesturing towards his clothes.
"Don't worry about it. They look better on you anyways." He winks.
"Right, well thank you again." I gather my things, soaked towel and all, to return to my dorm. As I walk, I sense someone walk up next to me. When I look over, I spot Oliver walking beside me. I want to say something, but nothing comes out. Is he following me?
"Maybe I'll see you around love." He smiles at me one last time before picking up his pace and disappearing around the corner in nothing but his black briefs.
He was oddly charming, I'm sure he treats all girls like that just to see how many will sleep with him. I know men like him and I despise men like him. He isn't fooling me no matter how charming he may be or how many times he calls me love.
Shaking the thoughts, I walk into my room and there he is, sitting on my bed chatting with Lindsey and some other chick. Fuck, she said she had a friend names Oliver I should have assumed! He's fully dressed now though, odd. He's wearing blue jeans with a plain white t-shirt which I find oddly attractive on him. Jesus Addy get it together, men are all alike! Don't forget that, I scolded myself.
"Oh my god guys this is my new roomie. Everyone, meet Addy!" Lindsey squeals as she jumps to my side, she grabs my arm and pulls me further into the room. "Addy, this is Oliver and Hannah."
"Hi," Hannah scowls at me.
"Nice to meet you love," Oliver smirks.
"Okay well can we go now, me met your new 'roomie' with the weird collection of books." She rolls her eyes in annoyance as she slides off Lindsey's bed.
When her six-inch heels hit the ground, I'm pretty sure I watch hell awaken. It's girls like her that make me despise our gender as a whole sometimes.
"It isn't a weird collection, I just wish to understand that which I do not know. If I don't understand it how can I respect it." I keep my tone calm but inside I am battling the urge to knock that smug look off her face.
"What are you even talking about?" She rolls her eyes.
"Take a gun for an example, a child cannot respect it because they don't understand the effects it can have. With understanding can come respect. My "weird" book collection," I air quote the word weird, "allows me to understand what these religions believe so that I may respect their beliefs."
"Yeah okay? Lindsey your roommate is crazy."
"Actually, that makes sense," Oliver defends me causing Hannah's eyes to go wide.
"You can't be serious?"
"I am though. Now quit being a bitch and let's go." He stands from the bed and allows the girls to walk out first. "It was nice meeting you Adelaide."
