The Lunch Incident
Uraraka sat with Izuku at lunch, the Todoroki silently eating his rice, as per usual. She was rambling to him about an old, pre-quirk TV show she'd recently found out about, called Sailor Moon. He nodded along attentatively, and would occasionally ask a question or two. He had become a bit more trusting of her over the few weeks, although not by much. Still, it was progress, and that was what was important.
As she was talking, an alarm started to blare, and Izuku flinched visibly, before franically looking around for the source of the sound.
"Hey, hey, don't worry Izuku-kun! It's probably just a test run or something!" Uraraka said, smiling. While she wasn't sure if that was actually true, she needed to keep Izuku calm. She still didn't know all that much about him, but she did know that he got scared easily, and when he got scared he'd either attack anything in sight, or run and hide. Neither of those would be good right now.
Izuku turned to face her, eyes wide with fright as he stumbled out "N-n-n-n-no.... S-s-s-s-s-security b-b-b-breach... Th-third y-y-years s-s-s-said s-s-so...."
She nodded slowly, standing up. Izuku followed her motions and she said, "We should get to someplace safe, the-" only to be cut off by the panicked crowds of students pushing into her. She could no longer see him, but she could hear Izuku yelp in surpise, which was shortly followed by a large cloud of smoke filling the area, making it near impossible to see.
For a second, she hoped that the smoke would make everyone stop since they couldn't see, but it seemed to only make them panic more, meaning they were pushing and shoving even more than before, which seemed to make the smole cloud thicker. It was definitely coming from Izuku..
"IZUKU!!" She called out, trying to be heard over the noise of the crowd. Another, smaller puff of smoke came in response, probably either him trying to show her that he'd heard, or he had been startled by the shout. Either way, the puff signaled her to where Izuku was, and she slowly managed to push her way through the crowd, to where he was.
He had taken cover underneath one of the tables, smoke spewing out of his mouth as he shook, holding his knees to his chest. Uraraka climbed underneath the table with him, and slowly but surely, she managed to calm him down a bit. The smoke spewing from his mouth started to lessen, and the cloud over the cafeteria cleared out enough that people could actually start to get out, although it was still hard for most, with how panicked the crowd was.
Izuku and Uraraka stayed under the table, Izuku not wanting to go back out to the crowd, and Uraraka wanting to be there for her friend.
Eventually, Nezu's voice played out over the speakers, "False alarm!! It was only the press!! Please return to your everyday activities!!"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It was the end of the day now. Aizawa had annonced that they would be having a field trip at the end of the week, before saying that the could go home, and curling up in his sleeping bag.
The only problem was that Izuku was clinging onto Uraraka, and wouldn't let her leave. His twin brother, Shoto, was glaring at them, trying to urge Izuku to leave, but Shoto seemed to be scaring him more instead of actually helping.
"Izuku. We need to go. Now." Shoto said, and Izuku only tightened his grip on Uraraka's vest, burying his face in her shoulder.
Shoto opened his mouth to speak again, but Uraraka glared at him, wrapping her arms around Izuku. "Shut up, Shoto. You're just scaring him." Shoto looked at her with a strange expression, that looked as if he was deciding whether he should be shocked, or offended.
Uraraka turned back to Izuku, "Hey, Izuku, calm down buddy... Why are you so scared to go home?"
He only responded with a whimper, clutching her even tighter. Shoto seemed to have recovered from his surprise, "He's being weak, as usual. Come on, Izuku. Do you want father to be angry with you?"
Izuku mumbled something, body trembling in Uraraka's arms, and she was sure that he would've collapsed if she wasn't supporting his weight.
"Well?" Shoto said, arms crossed.
Izuku must've realized that they didn't hear him the first time, because he repeated himself, a bit louder this time, "H-H-H-He's g-g-g-gonna b-b-b-be m-m-mad e-e-e-either w-w-w-w-way..."
He sounded terrified when he spoke, and Uraraka froze. They were Endervour's kids, weren't they? She knew that he wasn't exactly the nicest to his fans - actually, that was an understatement - but why would Izuku be scared of making him mad?
"Izuku... Why would he be mad at you?" Uraraka asked tentatively.
"I-I-I p-p-p-panicked d-d-d-during l-l-l-lunch a-a-and h-h-h-he d-d-d-d-doesn't l-l-like it wh-when I-I do th-th-that..." He whimpered, and Uraraka had the sudden urge to fight every single person who had hurt him - most likely, Endevour was on that list.
Uraraka didn't respond, instead choosing to pat his back in a comforting way. It didn't seem to calm him down very much, but at the very least he seemed to feel comfortable with it.
Shoto rolled his eyes. "I can't leave you here. That would only make things worse, you know that."
Izuku whimpered in response, and Uraraka glared at him once more. Shoto didn't react this time, instead staring right back at her.
Uraraka turned back to Izuku, "Does he hurt you when he's mad?" She didn't want to be pushy with him, but at the same time, well.. she couldn't just ignore the signs. If he didn't want to answer, she wouldn't push.
Izuku shook his head, "n-n-no... h-h-he d-d-d-doesn't h-h-hurt m-m-m-me, j-j-j-just.... y-y-yells... a-a-a l-lot."
"Do you want to tell one of the teachers..? I'm sure they could help you." Uraraka asked, and Izuku shook his head once more.
He pulled away from her, wiping at his tears until they turned to sniffles. His expression still seemed scared, terrified even, but there was something else there, too. Acceptance. "N-n-no.. I-I-I d-d-don't n-n-n-need h-h-help, i-i-it's f-f-fine!!"
Izuku turned to face his twin brother, and as the two of them walked away, Uraraka was left wondering if she'd made the right choice.
