HIDDEN LOVE- ANUSEENA
There you go with the next part.
An unconscious, pale faced Haseena was lying on bed in a small decent room; a drip was attached to her right hand via branula; She was whimpering and mumbling Karishma's name even in her unconscious state.
An old woman, in her late 50s, were sitting on her right side, changing cold water strips from Haseena's forehead and arms. Endless tears were falling from her eyes on the bed, "Haseena, my daughter, Please get a hold of yourself, you can't break like this. My bacha, please, my old bones have not left with much energy... Don't trouble me like this, beta."
On the floor, beside Haseena's legs, Anubhav was sitting, shedding tears silently and putting cold water strips on her feet and legs. He looked at her mother's devastated condition, went near him and took her in his arms. "Please Maa, hold your self, nothing will happen to Madam Malik. She has been a fighter since her childhood. An ordinary cold cannot harm her," His own voice choked seeing Haseena's broken and devastated state.
"How? How can I hold myself, Anu? You know too well that I have always loved Haseena and Karishma equal to you. Though I had not given Haseena birth but I had taken care of her since she was 3 years old. For past ten years, I had been waiting for my Haseena and Karishma. And today when finally I met her, look at her condition..." She was crying and getting restless seeing Haseena's restlessness and burning body.
"Maa, Maa, please. Doctor has said that there is nothing to worry about. In a few hours her fever will be reduced and she will wake up," Anubhav tried to console his mother.
"I know, I know but this is a mother's heart. It won't be at peace until she gains consciousness." His mother kisses Haseena's forehead and let few drops of tears to fall there.
"Maa, I am here with her. I will take care of her. You should take rest. I don't want you to ruin your health and I am sure madam Malik too will wish the same."
"No, never, I have gotten her after years I won't leave her side."
"Please, Maa, try and understand. Anyways, you can't come in front of her once she wakes up. Remember she has lost her memories."
"How can I forget? Because of that my Haseena went away from me. Please, Anu, let me be with her... At least until, she gains her consciousness. Seventeen years I have taken care of Haseena baby. Now too, when I will look after her, she will recover very soon." She said adamantly and started putting cold water strips on Haseena again. Anubhav accepted defeat and went back to what he was doing.
"Haseena ji, You have to wake up." Anubhav thought to himself looking at Haseena, while tears made their way to his cheeks.
As Haseena's temperature started going down, her restlessness started increasing. She was repeatedly mumbling, "I failed... Karishma... Sorry."
"Anubhav, I think we should call Karishma. Haseena needs her," his mother was extremely worried.
"I can't Maa, when I was bringing her home, she gained consciousness for a brief moment and she pleaded me for two things: take her to doctor, and not to inform Karishma." Both son and mother shared a glance and then looked at Haseena worriedly.
"I wish you had your memories; I want to tell you that I had kept my promise, pari." Sitting there only, on the floor, changing cold water strips on Haseena's legs and feet, Anubhav went in memory lane.
FLASHBACK STARTS
Outside the main gate of the Malik villa, fourteen years old Anubhav had politely withdrew his hand from her mother's hold. Hairs neatly combed, shoulders tilted, eyes sad, "Maa, I... I can stay in village alone... as I was... for last one year. I am fine."
His mother smiled sadly and caressed his head lovingly, "Anu, a mother knows when his child is fine and when not... come with me," she once again held his hand and stepped ahead.
This time Anubhav did not withdrew his hand from his mother's hold but added, "Maa!" Once again, she turned to him.
"Maa, I cannot disrespect you by refusing you again and again." indicating towards his hand in her hold, he added again, "But, I... I..."
"Anu, my obedient son, I know what is bothering you. I had talked to Mr. Malik and he had no issues with your stay in my quarter. I know you don't want to take anyone's favour but it's not favour. I work for them and they are paying me for it." Anubhav sighed deeply at his mother's words and nodded helplessly. She kissed his forehead and took him inside.
...
Daily Anubhav used to spend all day in his room at servant quarters or in the greens of the villa. At one such day, He was sitting on the bench in the greens of the villa, fidgeting with his fingers drowned in his thoughts.
His mother, who was standing at the window of Haseena's room on the first floor of the villa, was looking at him worriedly with wet eyes.
Just then, Haseena entered the room, "Maa!" she called her but didn't get any response. Walking closer to her, when fourteen year old Haseena looked at her caretaker's face, she found it wet with tears. "What happened to you? Why you are crying?" Haseena shook her slightly through her arms and asked with lines of worries written all over her cute little face.
"N... Nothing dear! I'm not... I'm not crying." Haseena was seeing her nanny, who had loved her more than her mother, abruptly wiping her tears and giving her a fake smile. She softly held her hand, and dragged her towards the bed, "Please, Maa, sit here."
"Haseena, beta, I am fine. You don't have to worry about me." She responded with a slight smile, and lovingly set Haseena's hair strands which were coming on her face.
Haseena held her both hands and asked softly, "Why, so? If you can wake up with me whole night when I fell ill, I can also worry about you. Please, Please, Maa, tell me what is the problem? Now your son is also here, you should be happy but you are sad, Why?"
"Come, come sit here." She made her sit beside her and started, "You are right, now Anu is in front of my eyes but, he is not living his life. It's been a year and he is unable to overcome his father's loss. He is spending his days and nights in the memories of his father; earlier he used to cry but now he is not doing that too because I took promise from him that he won't. I don't know how to bring him back to life. His father was his only confident, his only friend..." Haseena wiped her tears and it brought her out of her thoughts.
"Please don't cry, it won't help him. Don't worry, I will help you in bringing him out of his grief." She said, walked towards the window and looked at him sitting silently and fidgeting with his fingers.
...
Holding each other's hands, Haseena and Karishma entered the greens with wide smiles and carefree soul. However, their presence in the lawn went unaffected on Anubhav; despite hearing their footsteps, he neither stood up from his place nor even raised his head.
"Haseena what we will play, today?" Karishma asked Haseena but she didn't hear her. Upon getting no response from Haseena, Karishma turned her face towards her best friend who had never ignored her, and found her lost in a boy who wasn't even looking at her. Karishma frowned and once again called her best friend, "Haseena!" However, this time too she didn't respond her.
It did not sit well with Karishma; her face flushed with anger as she crossed her arms over her chest and glared at Haseena and Anubhav, both one by one.
"Karishma, go to my room and do some painting. I have some important work. I will be back." Haseena added without even looking at Karishma and stepped towards Anubhav.
"Haseena, Haseena wait, listen to me..." Karishma tried to stop her but it seems Haseena was in some other world.
"Who is he? My Haseena had never ignored me. Today, She didn't even want to play with me. This is our playtime, I wait for this time whole day..." Karishma's voice broke, and her eyes got moist.
"Hi, I am Haseena Malik," Haseena reached to Anubhav and forwarded her hand towards him.
Her voice brought him out of his thoughts and he jumped up, "Sorry, I... actually..." Anubhav got scared, stood up, bowed his head, and stuttered terribly, now knowing what to say.
"Relax, relax..." Haseena stepped towards him and was about to put her hand on his shoulder to comfort her.
However, Anubhav stepped back at once, joined his hands, and took a deep breath but still not looked at her.
Haseena took her hand back, slightly embarrassed. However, she tried again, "Will you be my friend?"
"Sorry madam, Friendship demands equality. You are sky and I am nothing more than a dirt. My mother is your servant. We survive because you feed us. I am nothing in front of your status." As he finished, Haseena's face was blazing due to anger.
Before Haseena could say or do anything Karishma, who had seen her best friend forwarding her hand for friendship to someone else after ignoring her, reached their with angry and moist eyes and reddened face. "Stay away from my Haseena." Karishma pushed Anubhav with all her might, "She is my best friend, just mine."
Anubhav wasn't expecting the sudden push; he stumbled and was about to hit his head on the bench. Unable to hold himself, he closed his eyes. However, Haseena held him through his wrist and saved him from falling back. Before, he could understand anything, he was back on his feet and Haseena was standing at two feet distance from him.
"Karishma, what kind of behaviour is this?" Haseena shouted loudly; first Anubhav's words hurt her and then Karishma's behaviour.
"Haseena, you..." Karishma tried to say something but Haseena cut her harshly, "enough Karishma, I don't want to hear a word from you." Karishma once looked at Anubhav then at Haseena and stormed away at the farthest corner of the lawn.
Ignoring Karishma for the time being, Haseena turned towards Anubhav, glared him angrily and shouted loudly, "Guards!!"
Anubhav thought she is going to throw him out, he raised his eyes for the first time, looked at her angry face, and rolled his eyes at her, "You and your guards don't have to take effort for throwing me out. I will go by myself after all I had bruised the ego of a spoilt princess by rejecting her."
Just then one of the guard reached there. Without breaking eye contact with Anubhav, she ordered him, "Call Maa." He nodded and ran inside.
"Mam, mam," Haseena's nanny and Anubhav's mother was standing in the Kitchen instructing the chef to prepare Haseena's meal when guard came running to her.
"What happened? Why are you shouting?" She asked with creased forehead.
"Mam, outside, in the lawn, Haseena madam and your son, They had a fight. She is very angry and she is calling you?"
"What?" Worried and shocked, she ran outside.
"Haseena, Anubhav." She reached the lawn with swollen breath and called them both. Haseena turned towards her, and found her worried and huffing.
"Maa!" She ran towards her, worriedly. Other side, as soon as Anubhav heard her calling his mother as Maa, he was shocked. Away from them, Karishma was sitting at a secluded corner and crying heavily.
"Maa, come, sit here, bring water." Voice panicked, eyes full of worries, she held her hand and directed her towards the bench beside Anubhav while shouting at other workers for water. Coming out of shock, Anubhav at once ran away to bring water.
"Relax Maa, take deep breathes. Don't worry, everything is fine." She rubbed her back, comforting her. Until then, he returned with a glass of water, "Maa, here, take a sip." Placing his hand on her head, he drank her water with his own hands.
"It's okay. I am fine." She looked at both, Haseena and Anubhav, and gave them a reassuring nod. "Haseena, now tell me, Why you were calling me? And Guard said that you had a fight, Anubhav is it correct?" She turned towards Anubhav and glared him angrily.
"No, Maa, we did not have any fight." Haseena intervened, before a confused and embarrassed Anubhav could respond.
She sat on her knees in front of her, took her beloved care taker's hand in her both hands, and started, "Mother and motherly love, I got to know it by feeling your love and care for me. I have never considered you as my parents' or my own helper. You are my Maa, I love you a lot. Please, don't leave me." Her voice choked, and tears started streaming from her eyes.
Both Anubhav and his mother were stunned hearing her; his mother for she did not know why she is saying this all of a sudden, and Anubhav for he had never thought that a rich family's only heir could be so mature to understand his hidden anger and discomfort on his mother's job as a house help.
"Oh my dear!" She took Haseena in her arms who had placed her head in her lap, engulfed her arms around her waist, and cried heavily. "I am not going anywhere, bacha. I know my Haseena loves me a lot and I can never leave you alone." She was trying to comfort her but unable to do so.
"Maa, it's ... it's not my fault that I born in a rich family; what can I do if I was born to my mom and not you; Tell me, what is my fault if I feel motherly warmth and love in your lap instead of my mom's; if I am alive and happy, today, it's only because of your love and care. All my father's money can not even pay back for a nights sleep that you sacrificed for my comfort out of such countless nights... then there is nothing that could pay back for the sacrifice that you did by staying away from your son just for me." Haseena's tears and her restlessness was causing pain to her nanny, and she desperately wanted to ease her pain.
Anubhav was feeling guilty for his words. Karishma was still oblivious of her surroundings and all she her thoughts and feelings were surrounded by her best friend's ignorant and rude behavior towards her.
"I know, I know I am not your blood like him. He has more rights on your motherhood as compared to me. I know that all these years he had been deprived of your love because of me, and his... his disliking for me is justified." Haseena's words were confusing her more and before she could stop her, Haseena's next step shook her to her core.
Haseena turned towards Anubhav still on her knees, locked her eyes with him, held her ears and said, "I am sorry. I am sorry that you had to live away from your mother because of me and my parents. I can see hatred in your eyes for me and... and I deserve that. You can hate me as much as you want. But... please, please Don't take her away from me. She is my mother just like she is yours. I... I love her as much as you love her. Trust me, I have never refused her any command neither I have ever allowed anyone to disrespect her not even my parents. You can ask anyone, here. They know it. I know if you want her to not work at Malik's, you will take her away from here, you have every right to do that. But... I... I won't be able to survive without her." Fourteen year old Haseena Malik- only heir of the country's biggest business empire- was sitting on her knees in devastated state in front of Anubhav.
Haseena's actions stunned Anubhav would be an understatement. He had generalized that all rich people are arrogant and ruthless but Haseena's actions, her tears, her apology, her devastated state at the thought of being separated from his mother had cleared his assumption. As misunderstanding got cleared, guilt took over him. He found himself completely numb at the thought that his harsh words had caused so much pain to an innocent and soft-hearted girl.
Other side, Anubhav's mother and Haseena's nanny, Sangeeta Singh did not need to know that what had transpired between both of them. She at once sat beside Haseena, on the green grass, removed her hands from her ears, and engulfed her in her arms. She hugged her tightly, "Sshh!! it's okay... stop crying.." she was patting her head lovingly and whispering comforting words in her ears.
"Sorry, sorry, Maa. You had to bear the pain of separation from your son because of me. I am so sorry," poor Haseena was blaming herself.
"Haseena, Haseena, Stop crying. You just said that you do not refuse my command. And look at you, you are continuously crying." Sangeeta brought her out of her arms, held her shoulders and ordered her sternly, knowing that it's the only way.
"No, I, I am not crying." The next instant, Haseena wiped her tears however, she was unable to stop her hiccups.
"You were nowhere at fault in all this. It was all mine and Anubhav's fate. And don't you ever say that he has more right on me than you. Both of you are equal for me and I love you both equally. You don't have to seek his apology instead he should apologize to you because he misunderstands you. Haseena, my dear, You don't know anything. It was you because of whom I was able to bear the pain of my son's separation. And also, I always had the option of keeping him with me, here, in Malik villa. I asked him and his father to come here but they wanted to live in village so, I agreed for his happiness. My bacha, it was our mutual decision and you or your parents are no where at fault in this. And keep one thing in your mind, I will never leave you alone. From now on, you and Anubhav will always be with me." Haseena looked in her eyes and found much needed assurance which calmed her down. She nodded and hugged her once again.
Anubhav, who was standing behind her mother, saw Haseena looking at him though his mother's shoulder. He at once held his ears and added, "Please forgive me. I behaved very rudely with you. Because of me, you had to cry so much. You can give me any punishment but please forgive me."
Leaving Sangeeta, Haseena smiled, stood up, removed his hand from his ears and said, "I am not upset with you. You don't have to apologize to me." Anubhav smiled slightly and gave her a nod.
"Aa... Now, can we be friends?" Haseena once again forwarded her hand towards him. He once looked at her hand then at her eyes which were reflecting humbleness and purity. He nodded, shook his hand with her, and smiled fully. Other side, his mother, who were seeing him smiling after almost a year, got extremely happy and overwhelmed.
"Karishma?" Suddenly Haseena remembered her behavior towards Karishma. "Oh No!! what have I done?" Smiled vanished from her face and lines of worries appeared on them.
She at once left his hand with a jerk and turned around, only to find Karishma in a devastated state at the farthest corner, crying profusely by hugging her knees. Tears welled up again in her eyes, "I hurt my Karishma." She added to herself and ran towards her piece of heart.
Sangeeta when saw his son's sad face as Haseena left. He placed her hand on his shoulder and gave him a piece of advice, "Anubhav, my son, Haseena is a girl with pure heart. She fulfils all her relations with her heart. She had done friendship with you so, she will fulfil it too. But, always remember, Karishma is her soul. You should never compare your place with Karishma's place in her life. It will cause her immense pain."
"I will remember that Maa. I promise, I will never hurt her or Karishma. I will try my best to protect both of them. And, I am sorry Maa for all of this." He held his ears and once again apologized by his heart.
"It's okay." She kissed his forehead and removed his hands from her ears.
"Now, I have some work. I will go and look at that."
"But, Maa, they... won't you help Haseena ji?" He was worried for them.
His mother smiled, shook her head negatively and added, "There is no place for any third person in their friendship. Haseena don't need anyone to woo her best friend. Also she won't allow anyone to talk to Karishma in this, not even me. And Karishma won't consider anyone's words accept Haseena's. They are sufficient for themselves." His mother's words intrigued him to know more about them both and their friendship. He nodded and she left from there. Anubhav remained there and continued to observe them both.
Other side, Haseena reached to Karishma. She saw her sitting in the shade of a tree by hugging her legs to her chest and hiding her face. Her continuous muffled sobbs were increasing Haseena's guilt and her body tremors at each hiccup were hitting Haseena's soul in the form of sheer pain.
Karishma's state was exactly similar to the day she had first saw her, at their birthday, in a park, at four years of age. "When I make you my bff, I promised myself that I will never let you cry... I broke my promise," Haseena thought and fresh set of tears cascaded down to her cheeks.
Haseena sat on her knees, in front of Karishma, and placed her hand softly on her head, "Karishma!"
Karishma raised her head and looked at Haseena with drenched face and accusing eyes. "You broke our friendship."
Haseena negated, shaking her head vigorously, and tried to cup Karishma's face. However Karishma jerked her hand away, angrily. "If you don't want me anymore or you wanted to talk to him, you should have told me straight forward. But what you did? First, you had not told me that today you want to befriend him and I should not come in between. Second, You ignored me and lastly, You shouted at me in front of him. You insulted our bond in front of second person. You strained our relation for him right? So, now go to him." Karishma shouted with tears, stood up, ran away from Haseena and towards the main gate.
"Karishma, Karishma, please, wait, listen to me." Haseena ran behind her; until then her own face was completely drenched.
At the centre of the lawn, she caught her through her wrist and came in front of her,"Please, listen to me for once. Please..." Haseena pleaded in cracked voice.
Karishma's heart twitched, and she stopped to listen to her. However, her anger and insecurity did not melt away. She turned her back on Haseena, crossed her arms to her chest and added in stern voice, "I am listening."
"I am accepting all the three mistakes. You are absolutely right in your anger. I am really sorry Karishma. I don't want to hurt you. I had no intention to do any of that. It happened all of a sudden. I know I have hurt you and I am ready for any punishment. But please, forgive me. Please," she ended up falling on her knees .
"Haseena!" Karishma when saw Haseena falling down in her feet, she at once stopped her. She sat in front of her and hugged her tightly in her arms, "I forgave you. It's okay. Now stop crying. In fact, I am sorry. I over reacted. It... It shouldn't be an issue. I got angry because..." Karishma was wiping Haseena's tears when her words halted and she bowed her head.
"Because you got insecure with mine and Anubhav's friendship, right?" Haseena lifted her face through her chin and asked lovingly.
Karishma's eyes welled up, "You have many friends, Haseena but all I have is you. I cannot bear to lose my importance in your life. I wanted to be your most special best friend." She whispered and hugged Haseena tightly. Haseena smiled stroked her hairs lovingly while reciprocating the hug.
Anubhav, who was keenly observing their emotional moment, got conscious when he saw both of them looking towards him and then approaching him, together hand in hand.
"Anubhav, I want to introduce someone to you." Haseena added upon reaching closer to him in response to which he simply nodded.
"She is Karishma Singh, my most special best friend. After Abbu, she is the most important person for me in this whole world." She paused and locked her eyes with Karishma's, letting her see honesty in her eyes. A wide grin appeared on Karishma's face as she felt the truth in her each and every word.
"Hi, Karishma, I am Anubhav." He forwarded his hand towards Karishma who smiled and shook hand with him "Hi."
"So, Anubhav, I have done friendship with you sometime ago. However, I want to clear one thing before continuing ahead that for me Karishma and her friendship will always be more important than our friendship. If you accept this condition then only we can continue." Though she had uttered those words however, she was wishing in her heart for him to accept her condition.
"I respect your and Karishma's special bond, Haseena Ji. I have absolutely no problem and I promise you both that I will never let myself come in between your friendship." A wide smile appeared on Haseena's face and Karishma's face was relieved of all insecurities.
"Aa... Will you do friendship with me too, Karishma?" Anubhav forwarded his hand towards her with hope.
Karishma once looked at his hand then at him who genuinely want to do friendship with her. "No..." She said breaking his heart and ran away.
Anubhav's face fell and Haseena was thinking of words to comfort him. Just then Karishma returned and added, "Haseena is my only friend and she will always be. Karishma will never do friendship with anyone else." She paused, and opened her first in front of him. "I don't have any brother. Will you become my brother?" A wide smile appeared on his face. He nodded and forwarded his hand to her. Karishma smiled and tied the thread around his wrist. Both of them hugged each other and Haseena was the happiest.
...
Next day, Anubhav was sitting on the bench; once again drowned in his thoughts. Haseena and Karishma entered the side of the lawn opposite to him holding rackets and shuttle to play badminton. Immersed in themselves, they have not noted Anubhav's presence and started playing across already tied net with two poles.
Anubhav's eyes were wet as he was remembering his beautiful moments with his father in their village; he did not paid attention to their noises.
Other side, Haseena had noticed Anubhav's sad face and she wanted to him to play with them. She was about to call him but then looked at Karishma and an idea struck her. Usually, when she plays with Karishma, she never gets competitive. However, this time she added, "Karishma, let's spice up our game."
"How?" Hands on her hips and a frown on her forehead, Karishma asked confused.
"Let's compete. We'll play three sets and the one who will win two will be the winner, and the loser had to complete one wish of the winner." Haseena asked with a playful grin on her face.
"That's not fair. You are a tennis champion and I am too inexperienced."
"Come on! Tennis and badminton are different."
"No, I am not buying that."
"Okay, get yourself a partner. I play single against you both."
"Really, you are too good." Karishma jumped excitedly on Haseena but the she realized something and at once got sad, "You are my only partner, from where will I get another."
Haseena crossed her arms to her chest and added, "Really? I thought you had got yourself a brother." Haseena shifted her gaze from Karishma to Anubhav. Karishma followed her gaze and her smile returned.
"Bhai?" she called him loudly gaining his attention who immediately wiped his tears to hid them from both the girls however Haseena had noticed them a long ago. "I promise Anubhav, I will bring you back to life."
"Karishma?" He responded her showing a fake surprise in his voice. "What are you doing here?" The moment Karishma heard his coarse and heavy voice she immediately understood that he had been crying. She locked her eyes to Haseena who gave her a nod and in that split second she understood what's all this.
Playing along, Karishma immediately narrated him the whole scenario and requested him to play from her side. As expected by both of them, he showed resistance. However, he didn't knew that Karishma never miss a chance to fulfil her dear Haseena's wish. When Haseena wants him to play with them, there is no way she will let Anubhav refuse.
Anubhav had no other choice but to agree. They started playing. Haseena was intentionally being extra hard on them. As a result, she won and both of them loose.
"Yes!! now both of you will fulfil my wish." she jumped and fisted in their air excitedly with a wide smile. Her contagious smile reached to Anubhav and Karishma both and they nodded at her smilingly.
"Karishma you have to write play for our next drama competition."
"But I have never written one." she scrunched her nose and furrowed her eyebrows as a cute frown adorned her face. Haseena shrugged while crossing her arms to her chest indicating Karishma that her cute tactics won't work.
"You will lose."
"I don't have any problem."
"Come on Haseena." An exasperated Karishma turned and sat on the bench near by.
Haseena sat on her knees in front of her; she held her both hands, smiled and added, "The one who escapes from challenges can not be my Karishma. You have brilliant ideas. Try and write them down and I am sure you'll rock."
Karishma breathed deeply and nodded at her with a smile. "That's like my girl!" Haseena yelped excitedly at which both Anubhav and Karishma chuckled.
Haseena stood up and faced Anubhav who was keenly staring at her. Haseena opened her mouth to say something but words didn't come out of her mouth.
"What happened you were so confident all this while but now suddenly you are unable to speak." His voice was depicting confusion and surprise.
Instead of responding him, she locked her eyes with Karishma, "Karishma, I want to talk to about a sensitive topic."
"But he called me her sister. Then?"
"Come on, he might resist his feelings in front of you."
Karishma rolled her eyes at Haseena, "I am in your room." With that she left from there.
"Why you sent her away? She felt bad." Anubhav questioned her.
"I will make it up to her for this. Now can we focus on you." Haseena added crossing her arms to her chest.
"What about me?" He averted his gaze away.
Haseena pulled him through his shoulder and compelled him to face her."Anubhav, your dad will always live in your heart. You cannot stop your life after him."
"That's none of your business." His voice was stiff and he gritted his teeth.
"It is. It is my business because by hurting yourself you are hurting Maa and... " She paused as her voice choked and eyes welled up, "and me."
Anubhav locked his eyes with hers and saw sincerety in them for himself. "Anubhav, I know you are in pain. I will share your pain. I will, I promise. All I want from you is to try. Please."
"Papa wanted to see me succeed. Why I should try when he is not here to see me?" Anubhav's voice cracked and a drop of tear flowed down from his eyes.
"Who said he is not seeing you. He is with in you. He is all around you. Right now he will be in pain because you are in pain. I want you to study and work hard. I want you to prove your competency and worth. I want you to make Maa proud. Tell me.Anubhav, will you do it." Wiping his tears, she asked him softly.
Anubhav nodded, "I promise I will make myself competent. I promise... Pari" He whispered and moved his face forward towards her.
"Pari?" She asked and moved his face forward towards him.
"Yes, my pari who came to take away my pain and to redirect my life." He responded with a smile as their foreheads collided.
Flashback Ends
"I was one year behind of my age in my studies because of the gap I took after baba's death. My trauma and depression had made it difficult for my teachers to help me. But you didn't gave up on me." He wiped his tears coming out of his past.
Anubhav stood up from the floor and picked the water bowl, "Maa, give that one too. I will refill both with cold water." He forwarded his hand to hold the bowl. His mother gave him a weak nod and handed him the bowl.
Few minutes later, he returned with two bowls only to see his mother holding a thermometer in her hand and smiling, "Anu look! her body temperature is normal."
"Really," He placed the bowls on the table hurriedly. A relief spread across his face as he read the thermometer himself. He looked at her mother once then at unconscious Haseena who was still whimpering and chanting Karishma's name in her sleep. Tears welled up in his eyes seeing her state.
He sat beside her on the floor, on his knees, held her hand in his both hands, "Pari, Please, please calm down. Karishma is absolutely fine." He tried to calm her down but failed.
"Maa, I can't see her in this state." He choked and looked at his mother with moist eyes.
"Anu, my son, I know you love her but all I can say is that you need to hold yourself." Helplessness was evident from every cell of his mother's body.
He looked at already weak state of his mother then at the broken state of Haseena. He closed his eyes, took a deep breath, and wiped his tears.
"Maa, something is troubling her and it's about Karishma. We both know that no matter how much strong dose she was given, she is not going to rest. I think you should leave before she woke up."
Tears welled up in her eyes at the thought going away from her daughter once again. She kissed her forehead with all her love and whispered, "Everything will be alright, my dear. You are my strong girl. I know you will set things right." It relaxed her muscles a bit.
Few minutes after she left, Haseena started sweating in sleep and her restlessness increased. A minute later she screamed, "Karishma!" and opened her eyes with a jerk.
"Karishma, Karishma, I need to go to her." Shivering out of fear, unable to hear Anubhav, ignoring her surroundings, she was shedding tears and stumbling towards the door.
"Haseena ji!!" Anubhav shouted and pulled her towards himself to get his presence registered.
Finally, she stopped and glanced at him. Then she glanced at her surroundings and her eyes fell on a frame of Haseena, Anubhav and Karishma together. Once again pleasant memories hit her and faint smile appeared on her face.
Anubhav when followed her gaze, he got shocked. He got afraid that the frame might have negative affects on her memories. He at once jumped towards the frame and put it down.
"Aa... It's... It's... It's nothing. Aa... How are you feeling... Madam Malik." He fumbled and sweat profusely, "I don't know what will I explain to her about these photos." He thought worriedly.
"You used to rant Pari, Pari whole day. Now what happened?" Haseena glanced him lovingly with wet eyes.
"Pari..." A sudden relief spread through his body. Fresh set of tears streamed out of his eyes. The next instant he pulled her in a bone crushing hug.
Haseena's face was on Anubhav's chest, and his arms were wrapped around her waist. All their happy and sad moments were flashing in front of their eyes like a reel, causing them to laugh and cry at the same time.
Anubhav pulled her out of hug, cupped her face, and pecked her forehead lovingly, "I missed you so much, Pari." He whispered with heavy voice.
Her eyes closed, cascades of tears were falling from her eyes as she was feeling Anubhav's love and longing for her.
"Please Pari, open your eyes, I missed them." His request was filled with desperation. She opened her eyes and locked hers with his.
Each and every cell of his body was calling Haseena to itself; the depth of his eyes was ready to engulf her in it; the pain on his face was reflecting his years of longing; his heavy voice was casting the spell of love on her.
Long Lost love of Anubhav was about to be rekindled. Lost in each other's eyes, they were moving closer to each other. Their lips were about to touch. However clouds thundered and broke the trance.
Haseena at once jumped away, and confusion was evident of her face. Her heart was doing marathon after feeling his love; her whole body was feeling strangely alive; her mind was shocked at the revelation and confused at her own reaction to it.
Anubhav at once turned his face away. His heart was disappointed for being deprived of the precious moment; his mind was rebuking him for losing control; his face was flushed from, both, embarrassment and the heat of his love.
Few minutes later Haseena got her control back. She cleared her throat and requested softly with hope, "Anu, Maa? Is she here?"
Anubhav also controlled himself and ignored everything else. He nodded with a smile and added, "She will be ecstatic, come." He held her hand and dragged her out of the room excitedly.
...
Anubhav's mother was sitting on the bench beside the window of her room looking at the harsh storm. "Maa!!" she turned to him, "Anu! Why are you here? Where is Haseena? Has she gained consciousness? Has she left? Why have you allowed her? Look at the storm." Standing up, she questioned him anxiously, one after the other.
"Maa! Maa! Relax." He held her by shoulders and gestured her to breathe deeply.
"The moment, you have been waiting for a long time; the moment you had yearned for; that moment has arrived. Your daughter, your haseena has gained her lost memories." His smile was reaching to his eyes as he was uttering the words.
"Really, you are telling the truth?" With tears in her eyes, bewildered expressions, she asked him again.
Instead of responding her, Anubhav gestured towards the door of the room through which Haseena stepped in. Haseena was walking towards her with teary eyes and a smile. Sangeeta was holding onto her breath still unable to believe her son's words.
Upon reaching closer to her, Haseena held her ears, "Maa! I am so sorry." Her voice choked, she was standing in front of Sangeeta, and crying heavily. "Haseena, my child." Fresh set of tears made their way out of her eyes and the next moment she took Haseena in her arms.
In no time, Haseena started wailing in Sangeeta's arms . "Shh!! It's okay, calm down!" Rubbing her back, patting her head, saying soothing words in her ears, Sangeeta was trying hard to comfort Haseena but nothing worked.
With the return of memories, not just Haseena's old unhealed wounds had renewed but also new scars had formed. The pain was already out of her control. On top of that Sangeeta's motherly warmth was compelling her to pour out all her pain which was unbearable for her mind and heart.
She was exhausted by continuous cries; her legs were no longer supporting her so fell down on her knees. Sangeeta was unable to see her devastated state, tears were freely flowing out of her eyes too.
"I cannot break like this." Sangeeta told herself and wiped her tears.
"Anu." She gestured him to go out of the room. Anubhav once looked at her mother then at Haseena and left the room half-heartedly.
"Haseena, stand up and come with me." She bend forward held Haseena's hands and drag her to the couch.
She settled on the couch and laid Haseena beside her by placing Haseena's head in her lap. Haseena encircled her arms around her waist and snuggled in her lap while Sangeeta was patting her. She didn't ask her anything because she knew if Haseena wanted she would share with her.
"Maa, can you sing your Lori for me?" She asked in heavy voice to which Sangeeta nodded, kissed her forehead and began singing to her.
Aa leke chalu tujhko
Ek aise desh mein
Aa leke chalu tujhko
Ek aise desh mein
Milti hai jahan kushiyan
Pariyon ke bhesh mein
Milti hai jahan kushiyan
Pariyon ke bhesh mein
Pariyon ke bhesh mein
Aa leke chalu tujhko.....
Ho chand chahe aadha
Ho phir bhi roshni
Ho chand chahe aadha
Ho phir bhi roshni
Umeed jo na chhute
Har baat hai bani
Raato ke sur se nikle
Subah ki ragini
Lori tujhe sunau
Lori tujhe sunau
Bachapan ki ek mein
Lori tujhe sunau
Bachapan ki ek mein
Milti hai jahan kushiyan
Pariyon ke bhesh mein
Milti hai jahan kushiyan
Pariyon ke bhesh mein
Pariyon ke bhesh mein...
Aa leke chalu tujhko.....
Mein aasam ko khidkiyon se
Ghar mein laayi hu
Mein aasam ko khidkiyon se
Ghar mein laayi hu
Saare ke saare taare
Yahan chunke laayi hu
Sapno mein rang man ke
Yuhi bharte aayi hu
Har dard bhool jaau
Har dard bhool jaau
Yuhi khel khel mein
Har dard bhool jaau
Yuhi khel khel mein
Milti hai jahan kushiyan
Pariyon ke bhesh mein
Milti hai jahan kushiyan
Pariyon ke bhesh mein
Pariyon ke bhesh mein...
Aa leke chalu tujhko...
Dena tu man ki shakti
Maalik mere mujhe
Dena tu man ki shakti
Maalik mere mujhe
Meri katha vyatha
Hai sab pata tujhe
Mein jab bhi dagmagau
Tu thaam lo mujhe
Chhode hai swapn saare
Chhode hai swapn saare
Teri deh rekh mein
Chhode hai swapn saare
Teri deh rekh mein
Milti hai jahan kushiyan
Pariyon ke bhesh mein
Milti hai jahan kushiyan
Pariyon ke bhesh mein
Pariyon ke bhesh mein .....
Aa leke chalu tujhko.
Sangeeta was singing the lullaby to her while kissing her forehead and patting her lovingly. Haseena was feeling the love and calmness in her voice, and soaking strength and courage from her.
