Chapter 5 - Broken Friendships

Fawnpaw POV

"Are you sure about this, Rainpaw?" Fawnpaw asked slowly.

"Of course I'm sure!" Rainpaw rolled his eyes as they padded towards the camp entrance.

"If you say so.." Fawnpaw could already feel herself shaking.

Rainpaw had come up with a 'brilliant' plan of sneaking out of camp late at night in order to do some training by themselves. Fawnpaw hated the idea but she just wanted to keep Rainpaw happy, she knew he'd just keep pestering her.

The pair somehow managed to sneak out of camp, through a bush on the outskirts of camp. And with that, they were off.

"How far do you think we can go?" Rainpaw asked.

"I think we should g-go back now-"

"Oh, stop being such a kit, Fawnpaw." Rainpaw hushed her.

Sometimes, it was hard for Fawnpaw to know whether Rainpaw truly cared for or liked her. He always tried to reassure her... But now it seemed like he only did it so she could stop talking. I mean, he was the former Leader's kit after all, he was far more important anyway...

"

For StarClan's sake, Fawnpaw. Hurry! You'll get us caught." He hissed, so much further ahead.

Not wanting to be left behind, Fawnpaw quickly sped up. She couldn't make out much and it was so quiet and- Fawnpaw froze.

"What?" Rainpaw turned to her.

"I heard an owl.." Fawnpaw shook her head, trying to hide in a bush.

"Well, I didn't. Y-you're just trying to scare me!" Rainpaw stamped his foot.

"What is the meaning of this?"

Both cats froze, turning to the other cat's voice. There in from of them stood their mentors, Crowsong and Alderpelt.

"What in StarClan's name gives two Apprentices the right to leave camp at night without permission?" Crowsong snapped.

Alderpelt stayed quiet, looking over the two cats in from of him.

"I-It was Fawnpaw's ideas!" Rainpaw pointed,"She wanted to come out and- and prove herself because she's so weak!"

"Fawnpaw?" Crowsong turned to her.

"N-no! No, I didn't want to! I'm scared! I wanna go back to camp and I h-heard an owl! And-" Fawnpaw stammered.

"Fawnpaw, it's okay. I believe you." Alderpelt assured her as he padded over, wrapping his tail around her,"Rainpaw, you do realise who you have chosen to pin this on, right?"

"I would have to agree with Alderpelt here." Crowsong shook his pelt,"Fawnpaw's scared of her own shadow, why would she choose to come out here in the middle of the night?"

"Why don't you believe me?" Rainpaw questioned.

"You lies are simply... Unbelievable." Crowsong shrugged, picking up Rainpaw by his scruff.

Fawnpaw could still hear him arguing about the two Warrior's decision. She didn't think Rainpaw liked her very much, especially not now...

"Alderpelt, why doesn't Rainpaw like me?" Fawnpaw looked up at him.

"Well, Fawnpaw, I feel as though Rainpaw believes himself to be above you." Alderpelt began,"His mother was the Leader, although not a very good one. Not great at making decisions or defending her Clan."

"So, because his mama was Rainstar.." Fawnpaw looked down.

"He thinks he's better than you, that he's destined to be a Leader." Alderpelt sighed,"I doubt he will though, Snowstar has no intention of giving him any sort of power."

Fawnpaw nodded slowly, resting against Alderpelt as she thought things over...

Owlpaw POV

"I get that he's your brother, Pebblepaw, but you could do so much better than him." Beepaw flicked her tail.

All three of them were supposed to be asleep in the Apprentices Den but it seemed only Owlpaw was asleep. Well, not anymore. He'd awoken to the sound of speaking and just pretended.

"What do you mean? My brother's a great cat." Pebblepaw shook her head.

"Then why do bad things happen when he's around, huh?" Beepaw asked.

"Well-"

Owlpaw rolled over so he wasn't facing them as he opened his eyes. Bad things didn't happen with him around...

Sure, some prey got away when the three of them were hunting together but that's normal! And sure, recently after they were born, the Clan was plagued with an unfamiliar illness that didn't effect them but it had to just be a coincidence, right?

Shadowflower always assured him that nothing was wrong with him. That he was just a normal cat! Well, she'd actually told him very often how important he was to her but he'd much rather be called normal.

"Pebblepaw, Beepaw. Go to sleep." Icetalon hissed as he passed by them,"Like Owlpaw."

The two didn't dare disagree with their silver-tongued Advisor and kept quiet. Owlpaw didn't dare roll back over, in case they were watching him. He didn't want to be caught eavesdropping, just another thing to be angry with him for.
