Chapter 18 - Break free
Fawncloud POV
Fawncloud yawned as she padded over to Mousewhisper who was watching over Ravenpaw and glancing at Pebblemist.
"Fawncloud, she's got a staring problem." Pebblemist whispered.
"She gave her soul away to bring you back." Fawncloud sat down, flicking her tail.
"Devoted then, huh?" Pebblemist cocked her head to the side.
"Very!" Mousewhisper purred,"It took a long time to get Crowstar to even consider my proposal!"
"Oh, Crowstar. A cat who understands me." Pebblemist sighed,"Now... Numbers. Who do we have?"
"Well." Mousewhisper began,"Not including myself, there's you, Fawncloud, Ravenpaw and Foxshadow..."
"She's not-"
"Not here? She doesn't need to be." Mousewhisper assured her,"The ceremony I performed on you all, it corrupts you slowly... She's on our side, she just doesn't know it yet!"
Fawncloud felt a twinge of guilt at the mention of what was happening to Foxshadow. She joined Mousewhisper by choice but Foxshadow... She was kidnapped against her will and forced into this life that she can't escape.
Fawncloud shook her pelt,"Then who should we try and... Recruit?"
"I don't think that will be necessary..."
"But you said there's only four of us, not including yourself." Fawncloud pointed out.
"Oh, those were only our... Living associates." Mousewhisper chuckled.
Pebblemist smirked,"You've convinced the Dark Forest Cats? All of them?"
"All of them!"
Fawncloud flicked her tail... There was no going back now... Was there?
"And don't worry, they're already attacking all the other Clan camps." Mousewhisper added.
Fawncloud froze before darting off.
"Hey!" Pebblemist went to run after her,"Fawncloud!"
"Leave her." Mousewhisper shook her head,"Whatever she's doing, she will fail."
Fawncloud ignored her. She wouldn't fail! She. Wouldn't. Fail! She ran to LightClan camp but... It was chaos. Where would Foxshadow be?
Her eyes landed on a reddish brown blur staggering out of camp. Foxshadow! Fawncloud hurried over to her friend.
"Foxshadow!" Fawncloud gently nudged her.
Foxshadow slumped on the ground. She was clearly injured but a black substance was leaking from her mouth.
"It... It h-hurts!" Foxshadow coughed,"W-what's happening?"
"Don't worry, I'll, uh, I'll fix it!" Fawncloud assured her.
"I'm dying... Fawncloud, I'm dying... R-right?" Foxshadow looked up at her weakly.
"N-no! No! You're not!" Fawncloud shook her head.
Foxshadow coughed up more of the black substance and her eyes began to flutter closed.
"Foxshadow! Hey! Hey!" Fawncloud nudged her,"You can't do this to me, please!"
But... It was too late. The once positive and outgoing Apprentice was now a dead Warrior...
"Foxshadow..?" Fawncloud's eyes widened.
No response... Fawncloud yowled in agony as she cried by the side of her close friend. How could she let this happen? How could she do any of this? For revenge? This wasn't worth it!
Fawncloud's thoughts were interrupted as her chest tightened and her breathing became restricted. What... What was happening?
She staggered backwards and the same substance dripped from her mouth as well... The corruption...
Her lungs burned and her chest grew tighter. Fawncloud coughed as she tried and failed to bring in air, to breath.
Fawncloud's actions slowed and soon, she was numb to the pain as she collapsed on the ground. She couldn't see as her eyesight began to fade. She was dying too... At least she would be with Foxshadow again... R-right?
