Chapter 10 - Distrust
Owlpaw POV
Owlpaw felt bad for Sunnystar since Foxpaw was her kit and now she was missing. Boulderstar had decided to let her rest in MountainClan to see the patrols return before he would escort her down the mountain safely.
He jumped off his rock but hissed slightly as his paws touched the grass. Dry grass didn't feel good underneath his paws, hard and frail.
Owlpaw watched as Lilypaw returned with a bundle of chervil, looking around confused at the sad energy that she'd stumbled upon.
"Owlpaw?" She padded over to him,"Why's everyone so gloomy?"
Owlpaw sighed,"Do you remember Foxpaw, y'know, from the Gathering?"
"Oh, yes, of course!" Lilypaw nodded,"Wait-"
"She's missing." Owlpaw shook his head.
"But she was really nice, I liked her." Lilypaw looked down.
"I know." Owlpaw nodded slowly,"Y-you should probably get those back to Hickorypelt."
"Oh! Right, thanks, Owlpaw." Lilypaw quickly scampered off to the Medicine Den.
Owlpaw smiled after her before being bowled over and pinned down by Beepaw.
"Beepaw.."
"I'm gonna kill you." Beepaw threatened,"I'm gonna save the clan and stop Shadowflower's favouritism!"
"F-favouritism?" Owlpaw's eyes widened.
His mother didn't favour him, surely. She was obviously nicer to him than most cats but that was because she was his mother! What favouritism!? It's not like she was going to make him a Warrior early! That was Pebblepaw, she was taking her assessment soon, unlike Beepaw.
"Get. Off!" Owlpaw pushed her with his front paws and kicking at her with his back paws.
Beepaw huffed as she tumbled onto the grass before she ran off, clearly very unhappy. Owlpaw sighed and padded over to Pebblepaw who was laying in the Apprentice Den.
"Pebblepaw?"
"Hm?" She looked up at him.
"Beepaw says mama favours me... Is that true?" Owlpaw asked quietly as he sat beside her.
Pebblepaw was quiet before she started... Laughing? Yes, she was laughing.
"Oh, Owlpaw, she doesn't favour you. Beepaw's just spouting nonsense again!" Pebblepaw chuckled as both Beepaw and Honeyfur padded in.
"Owlpaw... Who do you think you are?" Honeyfur glared at him.
"H-huh? What did I d-do?" Owlpaw stammered.
"You know what you did!" She snarled,"Oh, if this was OwlClan you would've been punished severely."
"What..?" Owlpaw lowered himself to the ground.
"You attack my kit unprovoked and have the nerve to ask 'what'!?" Honeyfur growled at him.
Owlpaw could see the smug look on Beepaw's face... He hated it...
"B-but I didn't-"
"But you did! Who else would've hurt her?" Honeyfur shook her pelt angrily,"At this rate it will be many more moons before she's healed enough to become a Warrior."
Owlpaw watched as Beepaw's expression changed from smug to shock.
"Come Beepaw." Honeyfur beckoned and Beepaw left,"We'll be speaking to Boulderstar about this."
Owlpaw sighed and turned to Pebblepaw as she got up and padded towards the entrance.
"W-wait, you don't-"
"No. I don't believe her." Pebblepaw answered,"I just want to talk with her."
"R-right." Owlpaw nodded slowly as she padded away.
Fawnpaw POV
Fawnpaw happily returned to camp, carrying a mouse that she'd caught with the guidance of Adderstrike, dusty, greyish brown, tabby tom cat with long fur. He had dagger-sharp claws, yellow eyes and a scar over one eye.
All these new cats, all of them were so nice to her! Fawnpaw let out a purr as all three of her new apprentice friends padded over to her.
"Ooh, a mouse. On your first hunt?" Featherpaw tilted his head.
"W-well, I've hunted before." Fawnpaw told him.
"In unfamiliar territory." Runepaw shrugged.
"Well, I-I had Adderstrike with me too-"
"Can you both stop overwhelming her?" Skypaw rolled her eyes,"She's trying to adjust to clan life here and you keep asking questions."
"It's alright, Skypaw. I don't mind." Fawnpaw assured her before noticing a white she-cat enter the camp,"Oh, who's she?"
"Hm?" Featherpaw turned,"Oh, that's Wisp."
"She's not an official CavernClan member yet but she's Luckyclaw's mate." Runepaw added.
"She's very pretty, I l-like her fluffy pelt." Fawnpaw commented before tensing, did she really say that,"Oh... W-what if-"
"Don't worry, Wisp wouldn't have heard you." Skypaw shook her head,"She's going deaf."
"O-oh, I see.." Fawnpaw nodded, going deaf was something she never wanted to happen.
Skypaw sniffed the air and shook her head,"There's a storm coming."
"Really? How'd you know?" Featherpaw questioned her.
"Sniff the air, mousebrain." Skypaw huffed.
The other three apprentices did just that and Skypaw was right, there was a storm coming... Now, were any of them ready for what was going to happen?
