Chapter Four
About three and a half weeks along.
I've been acting like everything's fine but, everything's not.
I pretend I'm ok but really, I have a tiny human inside of me.
I stick to my normal routine cause I don't want to cause suspicion. I quit wearing crop tops, that's the only thing that's changed.
"Good Morning, Charlotte!" I chime to our maid, in the kitchen.
"Good Morning Winter. Did you have a good sleep?" She asks, in her sweet voice.
"Goodish." I smile, before joining my parents for Saturday breakfast.
We hired Charlotte when she was just 18. Her parents had divorced and left her with her aunt but, her aunt was abusive and so Charlotte ran away and found our ad, looking for a maid while, crashing at a friends.
She is now 25 and has a nice apartment near the Vancouver seawall.
"Morning, Mom and Dad." I smile, taking a seat.
"Morning, Winnie." Dad smiles back.
"How did you sleep, darling?" Mom asks.
"Just fine." I white lie.
The truth was I had a TERRIBLE sleep. I felt nauseous the whole night and had to sleep in my bed, downstairs just so I could be by my washroom.
I pour myself a glass of orange juice and take a small sip.
Charlotte serves the omlette and fruit salad onto our plates, while Mom and Dad are in the middle of a conversation.
"Here." She whispers, slipping me something.
I open my palm to see a Tylenol.
"You looked a little pale." She winks at me.
"Thanks." I half smile.
She walks away and I quickly take the pill while my parents are still talking.
They finally turn their attention back to the table.
"Yum, good omelette." I raise my fork that has a bite on it.
"It sure is." Mom smiles.
When Dad finishes, he calls for Charlotte.
"Yes, Mr. Malone?" She rushes over to him.
"May I please, have my grapefruit now?" He asks, politely.
"Yes, Mr. Malone." She says, again.
"Thank you." He sends her on her way, back to the kitchen.
"Winter, I would like you to join me at the club today, please?" Mom asks me.
"Um, sure Mom. I don't really have any plans." I, half smile.
"I have a nail appointment booked for us and Natalie and her daughter, Jordelyn are joining us.." Mom sips her coffee.
"Oh, I haven't seen Jordy for a month!" I grin, in excitement.
Jordelyn or Jordy as I call her, is the daughter of Mom's best friend. Me and Jordie are pretty close. The rich life really isn't our vibe. We used to sneak away from functions, together and go find a spot to just hangout in our "favoured" party dresses. Sometimes we would hide candy in our clutches and eat it when we would sneak away. I always have a good time with her.
"Well, we leave in an hour so, go get dressed and ready." She informs me.
"Ok." I push away my chair.
I dash through the kitchen, thanking Charlotte for the breakfast as I pass by and go upstairs.
In my room, I turn on the shower and strip from my pjs. I have a quick hot shower before, stepping out and putting on my fluffy white robe. I blow dry my wet hair, while music plays through my room speakers.
Like I said, I'm acting like I'm fine but really, I'm not.
I can't have my parents suspect anything.
I put my hair in curlers before moving to makeup.
I put on foundation and concealer and do my brows. I glue on some false eyelashes and put mascara on my lower lashes. I bronze and highlight my face and add some blush to the apples of my cheeks. I do a pinky nude lip to top it off.
At the club, you have to look presentable. Really, I would rather be wearing some concealer, mascara and some highlight. Simple.
But at the club, you gotta look like you know what you're doing with your life, which at this point I certainly don't.
I used to wear eyeliner but false eyelashes already kind of do that (and I'm just to lazy).
I change into a yellow, knee length skirt and a white blouse. Something my mom will approve for the club.
Lastly for shoes, I decide to rebel and wear, white (clean) Chuck Taylors.
I pull out all my curlers and finger comb my hair out. My chestnut brown hair, falls into perfect rings, Just like my mom likes.
I grab my purse and head downstairs the second time, today.
Mom stands in the entryway, talking to Charlotte about the grocery list.
"I'm ready to go." I smile.
"Alright." She replies to me. "Thank you Charlotte."
"Your welcome, Mrs. Malone." Charlotte walks away.
"I told David to pull the car around. He should be here now." Mom opens the front door.
"Ok." I follow after her.
"Good morning, ladies." David, our driver opens the back door of our black Range Rover.
"Morning David." I reply before getting in the back, by myself. Mom sits in the front.
We arrive an hour later. I hop out ofthe back, thanking David. After mom gets out, David drives away and we walk toward the front doors of the club.
"WINTER!" Someone calls to me.
I see Jordie bounding towards me.
"JORDY." I run up to her.
We embrace in a big hug.
"I missed you!" We crie at the same time.
"Hello Natalie." I hear mom say.
"Ella!" Natalie reply's.
Me and Jordelyn finally release from each other.
"It's been a month." Jordy starts.
"Too long. Never can happen again." I finish for her.
"Totally what I was gonna say and yes." She laughs.
"Come along girls."My mom and Natalie start walking towards the club spa area.
We get to the nail place and me and Jordy get seated in a private room and Mom and Natalie in another.
"So how does it feel to be graduated?" I ask Jordie.
"Amazing. I'm moving to New York in a few months. I'm so excited to get away from my parents house." Jordelyn exclaims.
"New York, that's so cool. Your so lucky that you're moving." I smile.
"What's new with you?" She asks me as the lady starts prepping our nails.
"Um not much." I lie.
"Come on, there's gotta be something." She laughs.
"I got the highest score in my English class on our last test." I randomly say.
"Good job Win!" She punches my shoulder lightly, with her free hand.
"Thanks." I smile.
If there was one person besides Annie that I would wanna tell about the pregnancy, it would be Jordelyn. I've known her since birth. We've had a lot of our firsts together. Example: first kisses, first booze, first spin the bottle game (that's when we had our first kisses) and even first periods.
She's been a great friend for 16 years. I would never want to loose her.
But should I tell her?
I sit back in my seat and wait for my nails to be done.
When the lady is done, I have pastel yellow nails.
"Thank you!" I admire my nails as I thank her.
"You're welcome." The African woman smiles at me.
"C'mon lets go find our moms." Jordy grabs my hand and leads me to the waiting area.
Our moms sit on a plush velvet couch, chatting when we arrive.
"Let's see!" Natalie gestures for us to show off our nails.
We hold out our hands. Jordy has gotten cherry red nails to match her red lipstick.
"Very pretty." Mom laughs.
"Let's go. Our lunch reservations await us." Natalie and mom hook arms and walk out of the salon.
Jordy and I sigh before trailing behind.
