-----------------------------------------------------------------------

I blinked a couple times, gasping for breath. My head was on my knees, my hands still tied back behind the chair, as I tried to catch my breath. I swallowed hard and then tightly closed my eyes.

      I then felt myself smile.

Controlling it was easy, and I knew the first thing I had to do was make sure Darius couldn’t hear my thoughts, so I focused all my energy to my head.

I could feel it retreating from my legs and arms and chest and moving straight into my head.

      Then I lifted myself up.

I leaned against the chair and looked at Darius. “You’re reckless.”

He raised his eyebrows, though the strange desire I saw on his face didn’t disappear. “What do you mean?”

“You were so reckless that your mind was clouded before you did this to me. You didn’t even read my thoughts did you?”

I saw that this bothered him as his eyebrows lowered ever so slightly. “I didn’t need to.”

Suddenly, I felt some sort of energy brush against my forehead.

I smiled. “You can’t do it now.” I said. “I’ve blocked you out.”

He tilted his head back, looking more amused then angry. “You learn fast.”

I broke the ropes that were tied around my wrist and bent down to work on the ones around my ankles. “You trust me enough to just give me this strength without checking for any ulterior motives in my head?”

“It wouldn’t matter.” He said. “It wouldn’t matter if you had any ulterior motives or not. Because now they don’t matter.”

I narrowed my eyes at him.

      And then I realized something.

      I felt nothing.

I thought of Kero, and his father, and my friends… and felt nothing.

      Not love… not even hate.

All I could feel was strength

It was like they meant nothing to me though I know they did mean something.

“You have half of me in you, Aathy.” Darius said. “You can’t go against me.”

“How come I can’t feel anything?”

Darius smiled. “That is what happens when one attains power.”

      My eyebrows rose.

“You lose your emotions, you have no care in the world… except, to get more power of course.”

I frowned at him, but I couldn’t feel fear.

I thought it, but didn’t feel it.

But then something flashed through my mind.

I wondered if this was how Darius felt… or didn’t feel.

He didn’t feel sadness or anger or hatred… he just told himself that he did.

And he probably didn’t even feel love.

He just made all this stuff up.

Maybe that was what made him so evil.

None of this was real to him, and he couldn’t feel the consequences of his actions. The fact that he lost the one he loves, or his best friends… he couldn’t feel that.

But I guess I knew now that that was also his weakness. After all, it was that mindset which allowed him to give me half of his strength.

“Get up.” Darius said as he turned around. “We have work to do.”

“I don’t have to do what you say.”

Darius turned back to me. “That’s what you think.”

I stared at him for a moment, then got up and followed him out if the dark room.

“You have one job and one job alone.” Darius said to me as we walked down through the halls of who knows where. “To mess with Keroshan’s head.”

“I think you’ve done enough of that.” I said, looking around.

“I thought so to.” Darius responded. “But he’s stronger then he looks.”

      I didn’t respond to that.

“But there is one thing that I am certain about.” Darius said. “And that is that he loves you. Dearly and truly and absolutely.”

I didn’t respond again, though I thought that I should have been happy for that.

“And all he wants right now is for you to be back on his side. He wants to rest his big kitty head on your lap and for things to be the way they once were.”

      I snorted.

“And he is willing to do anything to get that back.”

“What do you want me to do?”

“Show him that he will never get that back.”

      I shrugged. “Sounds simple enough.”

“So go.” He said, stopping and turning around to look at me.

I stopped walking and looked back at him. “You’re just going to let me go like that?”

“You’ll do what I say. I know it.”

      “How?”

Darius stepped closer to me and put his arm around my waist. “Because deep down, your soul loves me. You were meant to be mine.”

I didn’t move away from him.

And I let him press his lips against mine.

      But I felt nothing.

Finding Keroshan was going to be easy. I didn’t know why, but I felt like I had some sense that could find him.

There was something inside me that pulled me in his direction.

It was the one thing I could feel.

A strange sensation that grew stronger as I got closer.

Not that it felt good or anything.

I didn’t really know how to describe it. It was just a feeling.

And I knew, the instant that I got close enough, Keroshan could sense me too because I felt his body start running in my direction.

I stopped moving when I felt that, and took a step back.

Keroshan couldn’t know of my new strength.

I ripped my clothes some more, tearing a sleeve off the of the shirt I was wearing and ripping holes into my jeans. I then scratched myself in all sorts of places, including my face.

I had no care of how I looked anymore.

When I felt his presence grow stronger, something inside me made me take another step back, but I fought that and stood still, taking deep breaths.

      And then I saw him.

His eyes widened when he saw me and he ran over to me. “Aathy!” He yelled.

He grabbed me and pulled me into his arms, giving me a tight hug.

“How the hell did you get here?”

      “I don’t know.” I said. “I don’t remember.”

His hug got tighter. “Thank god you’re okay.”

Something inside me wanted to hug him back but I didn’t, I just stood there.

He pulled away and looked at me. “What’s the matter?”

“Nothing.” I said as I pushed him away. “Can I just go?”

      “Go where?”

“Home of course!” I yelled. “Where else?”

He raised his eyebrows. “Alright, relax. We’ll take you home. But first we need to figure out what happened. Darius-”

“I want to go home!” I screamed.

That was a little sudden, I hadn’t planned that.

Keroshan was taken aback, his head jerking back when I screamed. “Okay, Aathy.”

He reached out to take my hand, but I pulled it away. I saw the look on his face and felt a little satisfied.

      It was working already.

“Take me home.” I said. “ I just want to go home, I don’t want anything else from you Keroshan.”

His shoulders dropped. “Aathy, my father is not too far from here.” He said, trying to reassure me. “We’ll go to him first-”

“Keroshan, I want you to take me home! And then leave me alone! I’m tired of this, I don’t want anything to do with you!”

“What did Darius do to you, Aathy?” Keroshan asked, stepping closer to me.

I stepped back. “Take me home!” I yelled again.

He swallowed hard and I could see the fear in his eyes. “Alright Aathy, c’mon, I’ll take you home now. Just relax and trust me.”

I shook my head. “Right now!”

      “Okay!”

      “Keroshan.”

I turned my head and saw Aarvind walking towards us, Chirpy and Serpethion following closely behind.

“See, I told you something weird was happening!” Chirpy said to Serpethion.

I felt a sudden urge to run. Something about Aarvinds aura pushed me back.

      “Keroshan step back.” Aarvind said.

Keroshan turned around and looked at his father. “What? Why?”

      “Just do as I say!”

Keroshan hesitated but jumped away from me, and I frowned. “I’ve been caught?”

“Aathiray, Kyrian spoke with me. Do you remember what you two talked about?”

      “I don’t care.”

Keroshan eyes widened when he heard my response.

“What’s wrong with her?” I heard Serpethion ask as he approached Keroshan.

Keroshan shrugged, worry filled in his eyes.

“Aathiray, stop and think for a second.”Aarvind said, stepping towards me.

His aura pushed me back again.

“Come on, Aathy.” Aarvind said, cautiously. “You can do this.”

      “No!” I screamed suddenly.

And then I felt a surge of energy that not only pushed Keroshan and his friends back, but Aarvind as well.

I guess I was just getting started.
