EDITED. I DID A STUPID. SHE WAS TEN WHEN NARUTO WAS BORN.

ON THE BRIGHT SIDE, I WILL UPDATE SOON, BECAUSE IT'S WEDNESDAY.

Maybe I should've left well enough alone, but it isn't who I am.

Bearable Authors Note:

Hey, guys! I just thought I should let you know again how awesome you are!

I have a fairly new story out, it's a Kakashi x reader story, and it's kind of weird because every other chapter is an author's note with tips on writing your own story.

Similar to this one, Kakashi starts as a brotherly figure to Reader-sama, along with being her Sensei, and there's no romancy-stuff until Reader-sama is twentyish.

As a young teen, I was extremely creative and totally emo, and antisocial, and as a result, I'm now super awkward. 😬🙃

But, my point is, I want to be helpful to other teens who want to write. My advice may not be great, or much, but it's free, and it's all I've got. 🤷‍♀️

It's also part of a multi-series I'm doing, with multiple other love stories of characters (Which won't have a bunch of author's notes) from the Naruto series. And not necessarily from that same time or place.

And, yes, it's connected to this story, but most of it takes place later or earlier (the series).

Anyway... if you haven't, please check it out, even if you skip the author's notes. The chapters are titled chap for ease of navigation.

Anyway, I should stop talking now. So I will.

And thanks so much for the love on this story!

Shisui, Naruto, and I were back on the road again, heading toward Udon no Kuni. Shisui was trying his hardest to be more patient, but he was overall irritated.

"So where are we stopping next?" Naruto placed his hands behind his head as he walked.

"We're camping, probably, on the outskirts of Udon no Kuni. We won't have time before sundown to make it to a town."

"But I didn't bring a sleeping bag."

I sighed, "I figured as much. I brought one for you." It was noon, so it'd be a while before he needed it. But it was sealed inside of a scroll. I didn't usually carry much in scrolls, because it took a lot of Chakra, but we weren't on a mission, so I wasn't worried about it.

"You did?" His eyes lit up and he grinned, "Thanks!"

Shisui said nothing about the exchange and didn't seem overly grumpy about it, but he was watching, I noticed. I smiled at him. He was walking to the right of me, and Naruto to my left. I placed my hand in his and he closed his eyes as his lips turned up into a soft smile.

I heard a thud, and looked to my left to see Naruto on the ground, "OW! OW! OOOOW!" He held his ankle, his face red as tears gathered in his eyes.

"Naruto, are you okay?" I asked, kneeling beside him.

"I twisted my ankle!"

"Okay, let me see." He moved his hands, letting me look. I removed his Ninja sandal, to look at his ankle. Nothing appeared to be wrong with it, so I assumed worst case he sprained it. "Okay, try to stand on it..." I slid his shoe on, and I held his hand to helped him up.

"It hurts..." He shifted to put most of his weight on his left foot, "Can we stay here for the night...?"

I sighed, looking at Shisui, who was calmly spectating. He seemed deep in thought, but I knew he was paying attention. I rose a brow. He took his backpack off, handing it to me, and averting his eyes.

He sighed, taking a few steps closer, and kneeling in front of Naruto while turned away from him, "If you ever speak of this, I will deny it happened." With his thumb, he pointed to his back.

I smiled as Naruto jumped on Shisui's back. "Hehehehe! Thanks..."

"Whatever, just don't yell in my ear or choke me." He stood up, placing his arms under Naruto's legs, carrying him easily.

I smiled at Shisui as he turned his head toward me, with an unimpressed look. I wasn't entirely sure if he was doing this because his heart grew ten sizes, or to earn brownie points, but either way, he looked adorable playing the big brother.

The thought made my mind travel to Itachi and Sasuke. Even though Itachi did everything that he did, it was undeniable that he loved Sasuke more than anything else. Sasuke always seemed so cold now, which I assumed was what Itachi wanted.

"So, uh... where we goin' again?"

"Udon no Kuni..." Shisui sighed. "The Land of Noodles."

"Oh... I bet they got some good Ramen." Naruto grinned.

"They surely do." I nodded, "We'll have to stop there for lunch."

"Hehehehehe... Yeah..." He was beginning to look tired. I guess walking for four hours probably took it out of him.

"You can take a nap, if you want, Naruto. We'll wake you up when we stop to eat and camp." Shisui stated.

"I think that sounds... good..." His eyes fluttered shut as his sentence ended.

*****

About four and a half hours after Shisui began carrying Naruto, we stopped, just inside Udon no Kuni, and woke Naruto up. He rubbed his eyes as he looked around.

"There he is." I smiled, "I'll set up the tents, Shisui, why don't you guys catch dinner."

"Okay." Shisui smiled, sitting Naruto down carefully. I handed Shisui his backpack, and Naruto sat down while Shisui dug through it, searching for scrolls.

"Okay, Naruto, let's have a look at that ankle." I said, sitting down beside him. It was slightly swollen... "Okay, I've got wrappings in here someplace, so walking, which you need to limit, won't irritate it so much."

I rummaged through my own supplies, finding the scroll and unsealing it. "Will walking on it still hurt?"

"Probably a little." I finished wrapping his foot and ankle, and he looked at it. "The wrap will keep it from bending wrong."

He nodded, "Thanks..." I helped him up and went back to my backpack before beginning to set up our tents, which were also in a scroll.

Shisui had two fishing poles in his hand, and a tackle box in the other. "You coming, Naruto?"

"Yeah!" He followed Shisui slowly toward the water.

******

Shisui and Naruto caught five fish in the time that I set up the tents and gathered firewood. As we sat around the fire, having already eaten, Shisui's eyes raised over the flames to meet mine, as I'd already been looking in his direction. He gave me that shit-eating grin, as the reflection of the flames danced in his eyes.

I rolled my eyes as chuckled.

Naruto shifted beside me, "I don't get it..."

"Get what...?" I asked.

"Why do grown-ups want... a boyfriend or girlfriend so bad...?"

I raised my eyebrows as my gaze fell on his confused face. I smiled softly, but before I could say something, Shisui said it first, "It's not that different from how you view (Y/n)..."

"Huh? Whaddya mean?"

"Well, you want her attention, care, and understanding, right? You view her kind of like an older sister..." Shisui smiled, "Which implies some form of love."

Naruto was watching Shisui intently throughout his explanation, his face filled with awe as he understood what Shisui said.

"You should get to sleep, Naruto. We've got a long day ahead of us tomorrow." I said, placing my hand on his shoulder.

As soon as the words left my lips, however, he snapped his head in my direction, "What!? But I don't wanna go to bed!" He whined.

"Are you sure? If you go to sleep now, we'll be able to leave earlier and, therefore, have lunch earlier in Udon no Kuni."

His eyes widened, and he chuckled, "Oh, well, I guess I am pretty tired! All that fishing and stuff! Heheheheh!"

"Okay, then. We'll see you in the morning." I pushed his bangs back and kissed his forehead and he smiled, hugging my neck.

"Yeah! Dattebayo!" He ran to his tent, to zip up the side. "Night!"

"Goodnight!" I shouted.

Shisui moved and sat beside me, "Kissing another man.... how dare you..." He grinned.

I chuckled, pecking his cheek, whispering, "Don't be jealous, now..."

"Pshhh... Not me..." I laid my head against his shoulder, and he wrapped his arm around me, "You know, I wish I would've paid attention sooner, but... you're really good with kids, Hime."

I lowered my voice to a level that Naruto wouldn't hear, "I owe it..." I yawned, "...to Naruto to be good with him... He's alone..."

"I think it's time for you to get some rest, too, Hime..."

I raised my eyes to look into his, "One last thing..." I smiled as he kissed me, my fingers tracing his jawline.

He broke the kiss, pulling away and standing to offer me a hand, "Okay, bedtime!" I accepted the hand he extended, and I laughed as he picked me up bridal style to carry me to our tent, which was pointless since it was only like twenty feet away.

Once we both crawled into the tent, he asked, "I thought you said there were three sleeping bags...?"

"No. I only said I brought one for Naruto..."

"Oh, I see... Damn shame..." He chuckled before his lips met mine again.

His hands rested on my hips, while mine laid against his chest.

One thing that I'd noticed change after Shisui jumped that night, after the hospital, and after those months of resentment I had toward the Uchiha in front of me, when he kissed me, it felt so... different.

It was so indescribable, the way I felt with him. Shisui made me happier than anyone else ever could. Alternatively, he could break my heart easier than anyone else. I had every reason to both love him and be terrified of him. Or rather, what could happen.

Which was truthfully why I pushed him away for so long. And partially why I resented him after he broke his promise. I was scared of how he could break me.

And yet, he made me feel so unafraid. As our kiss broke, my palms found his face, "I love you..." I whispered.

I couldn't see his face, but I could feel his face move, and assumed he smiled, "I love you too, (Y/n)."
