Chapter Nine: Embers of a regret
You can thank SpiritBlackPaw for this update, Its been over a year since I updated. But it was part of a trade, she could request any story for an update.. any story for two chapters of her own updated minus co-fics or stories that has scheduled updates. Thank goodness, I actually got over writers block as I knew what I wanted long ago, but it just wouldn't arrive to be written.
"Oh, its you again," Geno said, as he saw his latest 'Visitor'
"Me again," Reaper said with a lazy grin, as always Death was floating about.
"I've already told you, I die on my terms," the eternally bleeding skeleton said glaring.
"Oh I know, not here for that," Reaper replied with a hum.
"What then?" Geno asked.
"How 'bout a date?" Reaper asked, a flat look was returned.
"Must you flirt with me," Geno sighed, why did Reaper always flirt with him.
"Because your adorable," Reaper said, a blush covered Geno's face.
"Out!" he said glaring.
"Just one, a picnic here?" Reaper asked again, Geno stared at him for a moment.
"One date, tomorrow," Geno finally replied.
"I'll be there sweet cheeks," Reaper said throwing a kiss, and vanishing.
Geno.. who had been Errpr for the last six months sighed, this would probably not end well.
OoOoO
Twilight woke as he did often, with tears slipping down his face.
It... had been a very long time since he'd thought of his life as Geno, that life he would have love to stay as him.
Unlike what others thought, in that life he had been the original Geno had tried to kill himself when After Sans had believed Frisk when they [promised no more resets as they were all finally on the surface.
Including the prince and Chara.
They lied, and a true reset occurred.
Geno had woken back in the save screen, broken and bleeding again.
Alone...
No one remembered he existed.
It broke him mentally.
Error took over the reins, and lived on there. He was use to being alone, he'd spent a lot of time alone in the anti-void with the voices of fate screaming... here at least it was silent.
Ink was rather quiet, as he'd apparently taken a nap in the doodlesphere after there last battle and yet to wake up. Which, usually meant Fate was having fun elsewhere and didn't want Ink to wonder off when they needed him again.
For the first time Error fell in love, or rather Geno did.
Reaper came to visit again and again, demonstrating he was quite serious with his courting.
He even met Grim, who was pleased his brother had someone he could touch and be with.
Then they wed, and Reaper used his powers to allow him from the save screen without dying.
Error would admit to a very happy marriage, and a blessing.
It was a shock when he'd found he was with child, but Reaper was with him every step of the way and cried even more in happiness as little Goth joined them.
Goth was a year old when that day happened.
He'd left his scarf with his son, as Goth had such a fascination with it.
It should have been a simple day, kissed his husband and went to the save screen to check out his AU and make sure the brat hadn't done anything stupider then usual.
Heh...
His luck was never good.
There had been sudden horrible pain, and he'd blacked out.
He'd woken in the anti-void fully Error, as Ink had gone on a huge creative binge as fate was back and bored.
Since then, he never allowed himself to fall in love ever again.
The soulbreak of loosing a mate and child too much.
He knew Reaper had come across the next Geno, heck he'd made friends with the new Geno but the two had not gotten into a relationship other then distant friends. Now a days, Reapers life was his duty and his child, and Goth grew up without there mother.
His now grown child, who he would never be able to claim.
How much, was Fate going to make him sacrifice for there fun?
Moments later he was gone from the house.
OoOoO
"Bye Uncle Geno!" Goth said leaving.
"See you Gothy," Geno called softly, then as usual he was in the save screen alone.
A sigh escaped his mouth, along with the ever bleeding determination.
He had known Goth since Goth was a child, and known right then he wasn't the first Geno. Goth was too old to be the child of a copy, and Reaper would sometimes give him unreadable looks filled with a deep grief.
The moment that had happened, it felt as if that monster child had attacked him again.
He wasn't the first.
And if something happened to him, that made it impossible to respawn in the save screen... he wouldn't be the last.
He was grateful though, Reaper didn't push his feeling or expectations onto him. After all, he wasn't his Geno. It hurt also, for some part of him wished that Reaper did look at him that way as Reaper while had moved on in his life was still devoted to his beloved lost spouse.
"Error... were you his Geno?" Geno asked softly, in the save screen he could feel he wasn't alone.
Error, or rather Twilight walked into sight from behind the screen that allowed Geno to see the outside. His purple eye lights were dull, filled with regret. That type of regret didn't belong on a child's face, it was so lost and broken.
"A very long time ago, my little Gothy grew so slow due to Reapers magic wasn't quite enough to nurture him and they had a hard time find magic donations that would help. I can never claim them or tell them, only watch as they ever walk forward without me," Twilight whispered.
"I'm sorry," Geno told him, Twilight sighed.
"Thanks," Twilight replied softly "But at least I had a happy ending, even for awhile."
"How long were you two married, Reaper never said?" Geno asked curious.
"Can you keep a secret," Twilight said curious.
"Of course, your my friend," Geno said confused.
"Geno was my longest running life ever, I only gave people who asked before the time I was geno in the save screen," Twilight told him.
"Huh, nice.. but how long?" Geno prodded.
"You have to remember fate but Ink to sleep during this time, as apparently they were screwing with another multiverse that whole time," Twilight said, a grin on his face.
"Twilight..." Geno protested.
"Five hundred years we were married, and I'll never marry again. I can't have that heartbreak again, or loose all chances with my child," Twilight responded walking backwards into the shadow, then he was gone.
"Damn it," Geno cried fists clenching, knowing that it must be agony for error.
Unnoticed, phased out in a way no one could sense him Reaper grieved.
Fate...
Fate had just moved to his most hated spot.
"Geno..." he whispered.
He had known quite awhile about Errors.. issue. But had never realized his beloved waifu who had been so devoted to him.
Reaper left, he needed time to think.
