Chapter Nine
"Sir, I gave you the wrong documents..."
Every time a smile emerges as you reminisce about a phrase or even a dream. Imagine having someone who can always make you smile, even when you are feeling down. The chosen few are the ones who can be your sun during your darkest times, not just anyone.
Azhar walked into the building with the hope that it wouldn't be a bad day as last week when she came to see him even though he told her many times that they were over. She made her choice and he wasn't the one she picked.
As his mother always told him; "Never be anyone's second choice while you make them your first choice. Thats not how love and life work".
His decision to never get into another haraam relationship was something that Hayat was always against.
Hayat wanted her children to get married and be happy the halal way.
"Asalam Aleikum, Uncle..."
"Waleikum Salaam, Azhar. You seemed happy today. Is it because of Miss..."
"Uncle, no. We are just colleagues and thats all we will ever be. Besides, I might transfer her to a different lawyer and I know that the lawyer will need her more than me," Azhar said to his Uncle, he didnt even notice that Zianna just walked into the building and heard everything that he said.
Thats what you get for keeping your hopes up, Zia. Now, I will need to remove what I wrote on the list because that isn't for someone especially, after I discovered what I have. But all I can say is Alhamdulilah, so many times.
Khalid looked up just in time to see Zianna's teary eyes looking bad at him. He immediately knew that she had heard what his nephew just said about her.
Zianna just shook her head and quickly walked into the elevator when Khalid wanted to approach her.
"Never say that because you don't know what will happen in future. You have no idea what will happen or will change. Only Allah knows, Azhar," Khalid explains to his nephew. "Don't be someone who would hurt people will words that can't be taken back," he added leaving his nephew dumbfounded.
Allah knows, Uncle. But I can't be in the same situation I was in while I was at University. I wish it was different but who knows, right?
Azhar shook his head and walked into the elevator to get to his office. He was sure that Zianna was already at the office because work earlier than he did and that great thing about having her as his assistant/secretary.
The moment the elevator stopped, Azhar could smell the fresh cup of coffee that Zianna always had waiting for him every morning.
"Asalam Aleikum, Sir. Here is your coffee and on top of your desk some documents need your signature so that I can start filing them," Zianna states while giving him the cup of hot coffee.
"Waleikum Salaam. Okay. Thank you for the coffee," Azhar replies and then walks into his office leaving Zianna dumbfounded because of what just happened.
He said thank you for the first time in almost one year. Well, thats one thing he should learn how to do for everyone...
But her chain of thoughts was interrupted when the intercom started ringing indicating that Azhar was calling her. She was puzzled because he was just here a few minutes ago and now he wanted something again.
Zianna picked up.
"Miss. Hussein, could you please come to my office with the file I had given you to review?" Azhar asks his assistant.
Now, it is time to see Mister's face. Why does he always look so serious? Maybe he needs someone to remind him that life isn't always about being serious all the time.
"Yes, Sir. I will be right there," she says gathering the file and the notes that she will need to deliver to Azhar who was impatiently waiting for it.
Zianna knocked on the door before going inside the office. When he told her to go in, she slowly opened the door and walked inside cautiously because she knew his mood differed from how he ordered her.
Why can't I just not stare at you? You annoy me, yet I can't seem to fire you.
"Here you go, Sir. And these are the notes that you needed," Zianna tells him.
Azhar took the file and the notes without looking at her.
"You can go now."
Zianna was dumbfounded because of how rude he was to her this morning. As she was walking toward the door, she muttered the word 'Rude'.
She didn't know that he heard her and couldn't help but smile.
Azhar just shook his head and continued working but something caught his eye. One of the papers that Zianna had given him was written ' Zianna's Bucket List'.
"What is this?" He asked himself as he continued reading through it. Some of them were already marked. It looked like some were already done.
Zianna's Bucket List.
1. Learn how to drive a car.
2. Get a cat.
Azhar continued reading through the list when Zianna rushed inside his office.
"Excuse me, Sir. I think I gave you the wrong paper..."
"Which documents?" Azhar asks while hiding the list that he just read.
"It's a personal document and I accidentally placed it with the other documents you asked me for," Zianna tried to explain to her boss but all she could do was stammer. "Can I see the documents that I just gave you, please Sir?" She asked hoping that he would say yes.
But Azhar's answer surprised her.
"No, because these documents are the ones that I need to see if the client has a case of not. So, Miss. Hussein, I am sorry if you lost your 'important' document by misplacing it. I suggest you look for it where it might be," Azhar says.
"I am sorry to might have disturbed you Sir. Excuse me," Zianna says walking out of the office with tears threatening to fall from her eyes.
Azhar could see how frantically Zianna was looking for her document but first, he needed to know what a bucket list was and why was his assistant writing one.
Forgive me, Zianna but this is something I want to know so that I can make my decision about transferring you to a different lawyer. If this affects your performance then I will have to tell my uncle about it and he will know what to do since he was the one who hired you.
"Where could that paper be? Ya Allah, let me fnd it before that grumpy boss of mine does," Zianna says to herself while looking through everything that was on her desk and even where the dustbin was.
Zianna was so sure that she misplaced it with the documents that she handed over to her boss.
Meanwhile, Azhar was still reading the piece of paper that had the word bucket list written on it. He wanted to ask his brother and even his sister but he decided against it.
He decided to search on his computer for the word 'bucket list'.
Azhar was shocked to find what that word meant. He knew that making a copy was the best thing to be done.
Fortunately, there was a photocopy machine in his office, so Azhar made a copy of the paper and made a plan to keep it back without Zianna noticing but he needed a plan for that to happen.
But the main question that baffled me was whether Zianna sick or did something happened to her to write a list like this.
Azhar knew what he had to do to get Zianna out of the office.
"Miss. Hussein, I want you to get me lunch and something for yourself too," he said handing her his credit card. "You can take the company car. The driver is waiting for you and don't order food that I won't like, " he added returning to his office.
He is acting strange. Maybe something happened to him.
Zianna shook her head and grabbed her bag to go and buy lunch for her boss for the first since she started working at the law firm.
As soon as Zianna walked out of the office, Azhar got the paper ready to place it on top of her desk but he didn't want to make it obvious that he was the one who had it.
"There, thats the place" he said placing it under one of the open folders that were on top of Zianna's desk. "And now I need to know why she has this type of list with her?" He wondered to himself.
