Chapter Forty-One

"Will You Forgive me? I am still your father?"

What is forgiveness? To say 'I am sorry' or to just say it so that you won't look bad? Forgiveness is something sacred that should come from your heart with pure intention. Forgive but don't forget, that's how humans are and will always be. Will you forgive people just because of their relationship with you?

Nour started joining Dalia in visiting Zianna and this didn't go unnoticed by her mother Nadia. She started her plan of getting Zianna out of the way permanently, this time. And there was no one to stop her.

Nadia's hatred for Zianna never faltered even before when she didn't know that she survived the car accident.

"I can't wait any longer. I will need to go and see that person so I can get rid of the pest forever," she murmured to herself not knowing that the walls have ears and eyes.

Nadia quickly sent a message to the person telling them the time and day, she wanted them to meet and this time, their plan will be in full motion.

Meanwhile, Hussein was planning on visiting his daughter but he couldn't do it when his son or even daughter-in-law were at home. He needed to talk to her alone.

He needed her forgiveness and to protect her from Nadia who wanted to harm her.

I will keep the promise I made to my parents. To protect my daughter even though I failed to protect my wife from Nadia. I wish I could turn back time and undo most of the things I have done but then I won't have my children with me. I was happily married to Hania, the light of my life when everything came crashing down. I couldn't protect her, I will protect our daughter even if it's the last thing I will do.

After a few days, the person following Tayyal and his wife on behalf of Hussein reported that the couple would be going to a get-a-way weekend. They would be leaving Zianna behind as she didn't want to impose on them.

Hussein waited until his son's car drove away from the driveway to get out of his car. He then walked toward the house nervously hoping that Zianna wouldn't close the door in his face.

He nervously knocked on the door and waited for a few minutes. Zianna opened the door, thinking it was her brother, forgetting something.

"I already packed your..."

Hussein's face cut off her words at the door.

"I..."

"Asalam Aleikum, can I come in, please?" He asked.

"Walaikum salaam, what are you doing here? If you are looking for Tayyal, he..."

"I know where he is. I came here to talk to you. Please, its important," he said.

Zianna moved out of the way so, he could get inside the house. Hussein walked inside and Zianna led him to the living room where she montioned him to take a seat.

"We can talk here. I don't want the neighbors to gooosip that I dont care about you," she said, sitting down on the other side of the couch. "What do you want to talk about, Mr. Hussein?" Zianna asked, surprising him by calling him 'Mr Hussein', instead of dad.

"I want to apologize to you and to make amends of everything that I have done to you in the past..."

"Will your apology bring my mother back? Will your apology give me all those years where I yearned for a father's love? Will your apology give me back the life that I had?" She asked with tears streaming down her face. "The answer to all those questions is no. So I don't know why you are here saying something about 'apologise', when you disowned me the day, you divorced my mother. I came to live in your house because I had no other choice. I was still a minor and no one would let me live by myself. At least then I would be happy," she added.

"I am still your father, Zianna. I am your father..."

Zianna couldn't help but laugh through her tears. "Really? Where were you when your wife, burnt my back just because I was in bed sick? Where were you when your wife, pushed me down the stairs and broke my wrist, when I didnt cook for Nour? And most importantly where were you when your wife demanded me to pay rent for the basement room, I was living in? I agree that you are my father, but you need to remember that in the eyes of my mother, YOU DISOWNED ME. I was a kid who didn't know anythin what happened between you and her yet, I was thrown in the middle of it."

Hussein was beyond shocked to hear what Zianna was saying about Nadia.

How can she be like this to you?

"Let me guess, you don't believe me right?" She asked him. "I will show you the scar she permamently gave me when she saw me laying in bed sick," she said, opening her blouse. Zianna then turned around to show Hussein a huge scar on her back. The scar was in the middle of Zianna's back. It was caused by Nadia throwing hot oil on her while she had someone holding her down.

Zianna put her blouse back on and turned to face him. Hussein had tears in his eyes of regret. Zianna needed him but he wasn't there for her.

"Do you want to know what she poured on me? Let me tell you, it was hot boiling oil that was straight from the cooker. I was barely surviving when she decided to give me another scar," Zianna said, rasing her blouse for him to see a huge scar on her stomach. "A few weeks later she burnt me with a hot knife. Oh...wait she said that was 'accidental' when Tayyal saw her doing it," she added, emphasing on the word 'accidental'.

"I didn't know you were suffering like this, Zia. I wish I could turn back the time and never let this happen. Please forgive me, my daughter..."

"Mr Hussein, who are you calling your daughter? Your daughters and Nour and Dalia. Your son is Tayyal. I am just an orphan you found..."

"No, no, no...You are my Zianna. My light,"Hussein tells her. "You are my light, my Zianna. Please don't say that you are an orphan while I am stil alive..."

"I dont know where you got that idea from, Sir. But I am an orphan you were called because my real mother and father died. To be honest with you, I wished that they didnt call you. I cried every single night wondering what I did to deserve the things done to me. It was because of you, Mr Hussein," Zianna says, cutting him off.

"I am and will always be your father, Zianna. I will change and try everything in power to give you whatever you need..."

"Why now, when I might end up dying? Oh...wait, you came here to make amends because I am dying? And you dont want my death to be in your consious?" She asked.

"No, I didn't come here to do that, Zianna. I came here to acknowledge the fact that you are a part of me. You are my Zianna and I would like a fresh start to be the father you needed all those years. Will you forgive me? I am still your father, Zianna?" He asked, hopefull that Zianna will forgive him.

Zianna looked at him and he kneeled down in front of her. She quickly held his hands making him stand up.

"I wont have you kneel before me for forgiveness. I will at least give you a chance to be the father, you wanted to be in my life," Zianna said. "But, I dont want anything from you as in terms of money and other materialist things," she added.

"I promise you that I will earn your forgiveness, my Zianna..."

"I forgave you because that how my mother always taught me. I forgave you because I knew it was the right thing to do..."

Before Zianna could say anything, Hussein pulled her into his arms. The hug was much needed for the both of them even though at the house, a storm was brewing that needed to be distinguish before it ruins everyone it touches.
