Mei heard a loud bang and the elevator stopped abruptly. She hoped it wasn't anything too bad. She's had too many a-bit-too-close-to-death experiences this week.

The other person, a humanoid turtle in a purple mask, groaned loudly.

"Sigh. I'll try to fix it." They said 'sigh' out loud and opened the panel under the buttons.

"Wait, you're good with this stuff? I have a friend who's a bit of a tech nerd, I could introduce you sometime." She almost jumped up at the idea Red Son could make a new friend. He was usually so grumpy and closed off. Maybe if he had a science buddy, he'd open up.

The turtle didn't respond, digging deeper into the mess of cables in the wall. Two robotic spider arms sprung out of their shell and held onto some wires.

"Wow! What are those?! Did you make them?" She poked one of the spider arms.

The turtle stopped and looked at her, pulling up their goggles. "Well, of course. These are my spider arms. They are attached to my battle shell which-"

"Is that the purple thing on your back? It looks like a mango. Why do you have it?" Mei didn't let them finish before drowning them in more questions.

"Yes. See, I am a softshell turtle and since me and my brothers fight crime, I was at a disadvantage in battle. That's why I made it. To protect my shell." They explained thoroughly, visibly proud of their work.

"Wait, you fight crime too?! That's so cool! I have a friend, his name is MK, and he's a hero! We fight evil a lot! What wepon do you use?" MK was not gonna believe Mei just met another hero in this elevator.

"My tech bo." They pulled a small metal stick fron their battle shell and, with a click of a hidden button, it transformed into a six foot tall, metal bo staff. It was amazing! "It's made out of high grade titanium and has many hidden functions, like, please step aside, FLAMETHROWER!" They started maniacally laughing while a ball of flame erupted from the end of their bo staff, staining the metal wall of the elevator black.

Oh they would definitely be best friends with Red Boy.

"Cool! MK has a bo staff too! And I got this." She pulled out her dragon sword to show it off. "I can summon my dragon avatar with it. Would gladly show you, but it wouldn't fit in here. It's HUGE!"

The turtle looked amused, but didn't say anything. Mei treated it as an invitation to keep talking.

"And MK, he's Monkie King's successor and-"

This time the turtle cut her off. "Monkie King as in legendary Sun Wukong?!" Mei nodded.

"Yeah. He' s actually chill but kinda untrustworthy. Seriously, never let him make any plans. He'll immediately screw it up." She knew what she was talking about.

The turtle must've seen the way she didn't want to keep talking about this stuff, because they decided to introduce themself. "Uh, my name's Donnie, by the way."

Her face lit up. "Mei."

"You know, you remind me of my brother. He's also full of energy and overexpressive all the time. You'd like him." They stated suddenly.

"Ah, really? What's his name?"

"Mikey. He likes cooking and art."

"Really?! MK loves art. And Pigsy, his dad, owns a restaurant. I think they'd get along." Mei piped up.

Donnie looked confused for a second. "Why is his name Pigsy? Is he a pig mutant or something?" Mutant? What are mutants?

"Mutant? He's a pig demon." That seemed to have surprised Donnie. Do they not have demons where they come from? "By the way, what are mutants? I don't think I've ever heard of 'em."

"Really? They're basically everywhere in New York City now." Ah, so Donnie was from New York. That' s why they didn't know about demons. "They are created when an animal or a human gets bit by an oozequito. These annoying bugs were created by Baron Draxum and are filled with mutagen."

"Sounds interesting. I hope I'll see a mutant someday. I wonder what they look like." She let her mind wander. Maybe they have multiple limbs, or can fly, or have laser eyes. Do they look ugly?

"Well, you happen to be looking at one right now." Donnie said, proudly. Oh. She should've seen that coming.

"You were bit by a bug and turned into a mutant and the first thing you decided to do was fight crime?" Mei giggled. "I would've done the same honestly."

By the look on Donnie's face, that was not the case. "Oh, you thought- No. No, I was mutated before this whole oozequito situation to be a super soldier who'd eridicate humanity."

"Wow. And here I thought MK being Wukong's successor and having some kind of crazy destiny to fulfill was crazy." Super soldiers and wiping out all humanity definitely took the cake here.

"Oh, he had a destiny too? Cool." Cool? Was Donnie crazy or something? In what world would that be cool?

"Actually destiny can die in a hole. Lady Bone Demon said that she was destined to destroy the world and look how she ended up. Dead." Okay, Mei might've been a bit too harsh. Donnie didn't know about destiny shmestiny being a sensitive topic. "But yours was probably cool."

"Well, turns out we have mystical powers called ninpo because of our relation to the Hamato clan, which was supposed to stop the return of the Shredder." Well, that was a bit of a backstory. "We beat him though."

Before Mei could respond somehow, and oh boy did she want to, Donnie's phone rang. "You're conversing with Donatello." They greeted whoever called them.

"What? No. I would never!" They responded to an accusation, probably.

"I don't know. I'm in a broken elevator. Leo don't. You just recovered. You are not going back to the med bay Leo, we just got you out." Wonder what happened. Maybe the crimefighting life rubbing off on someone. Oh, or maybe they were saving the world?

"We have to wait. Just. Go without me. Yeah, I'll try. Bye." Donnie hung up and stuck their face into the colorful wires in the wall again.

"Who was it?" Mei decided to ask.

This time Donnie didn't look at her, instead focusing back on fixing the elevator. "Just my twin. He's reckless and stupid." They sighed.

"But without him we wouldn't even be here. He's actually very smart, but has no regard for his own safety." They continued, still working with the wires. "It's like he cares about us more than about himself."

Donnie went silent for a second.

"Okay, maybe we all do." Mei guessed they were talking about their family.

"I know the feeling." She decided to chime in. "I'd do anything to keep MK safe." Mei decided to sit down, to be on eye level with crouching Donnie.

The elevator fell into silence save for acasional buzzing of tools Donnie got from they only know where.

"What were you supposed to do? You know, instead of being stuck in an elevator." Mei decided to break the silence.

"We were supposed to go to the cinema." Donnie answered and they both fell into silence once again.

Mei didn't know how long it was. She pulled out her phone and started watching puppy videos. The sounds of Donnie working actually made a great background noise.

"And you?" The turtle spoke up suddenly. "What were you supposed to do?" They asked, probably feeling awkward in the quiet elevator with Mei.

"Go to the mall. I was supposed to meet up with MK and Red Son half an hour ago actually." Mei sighed. She hoped the two were having fun.

"Rad Son?" Donnie asked and Mei realized she didn't say a word about the nerd yet.

"Yeah, he's my nerd friend. Antisocial, short tempered scientist. You'd like him." She tried to characterize Red Boy as good as she could. "Oh, and an ex-villain. But don't call him that, he still thinks he's being evil." Mei snickered.

Before Donnie could answer, the elevator door was forced open by red light, freeing the two.

"Weren't you supposed to be at the movies?" The turtle asked and that's when it clicked in Mei' s head. It were their brothers.

"Yeah, but you needed rescuing." A turtle in blue bandana pointed out. "And don't worry, I didn't portal."

"Oh mi gosh who is that? You didn't say anything about being stuck in there with someone!" A shorter turtle in orange bandana shouted excitedly.

"I'm Mei."
