"She never made any effort to be our friend after some time, true. But she never once, ever failed me. Not once."

-

"Come on!"

"Marina, what are we doing here?"

The red haired girl laughed and smiled for the camera.

Samuel's heart thumped.

"Don't ask, we have ten minutes before the basketball team arrives. And you should know," she turned to face him, "I've only shown this to few of my friends.

Samuel smiled as he flipped the camera open and began recording as she played 'Hundred Miles' and began dancing. She looked beautiful to him.

She twirled round and round in circles that got bigger and bigger as she spun and laughed. Samuel kept the camera on her the entire time, capturing her raw moments.

"You're about to end up with a pretty awesome project" she added as she twirled.

His heart thumped.

"That's all!" she laughed and closed the camera.

This was just perfect timing too, because only mere seconds after, the basketball team began to fill in the court. They looked at one another, and walked to sit on the bleachers to watch and hopefully continue the project.

"Siblings?"

"One; you met him, Nano."

Marina nodded and smiled in remembrance of the tall brunette with ocean eyes.

"Nano. And how is it going in the kitchen at La cabaña?"

"With him, or with me since he's been there?" Samuel scoffed jokingly.

"Okay, I'm going to write that you get along perfectly!"

"We can lie there right?"

"Then you can write that I get along with mine." Marina laughed again.

As Marina typed on her laptop again, Samuel debated whether or not and in what way and in what way he should tell her that he liked the fact that his brother was out of jail, but it made things even more complicated than she could imagine. He didn't have that much time however, because suddenly, a ball came flying towards Marina. Samuel who noticed the ball flying in her direction reacted fast and rapidly caught the ball before it could hit her., causing her to look up in surprise.

"Are you okay?" he asked.

"Yeah I am, thank you Samuel. That was some quick thinki-"

"Marina, are you okay? Did we hit you?" A new voice interrupted, causing the pair to break contact with each other and face the direction it came from. Samuel noticed how Marina's smile seemed to falter and she hesitated as she laid her eyes on the tall blonde boy with the curly hair.

"S-Si, I mean no. I mean yes! I'm okay, but no, you didn't hit me. Samuel," she pointed at him "caught the ball in time." she nodded.

Samuel also seemed to gage that the boy who he definitely knew, but had forgotten the name of, was slightly uncomfortable as he retrieved the ball from him and gave him a small 'Thank You'. Even though he was gone and continuing with his basketball game, Marina's eyes stayed on him, which sent one question flying through Samuel's mind.

Was there something between them?

"¿Estás bien? Te ves un poco . . ." Samuel asked softly as it was nearing almost a minute since the boy had left and Marina hadn't torn her eyes off him yet. His question seemed to stop her daydream.

"I'm fine." Her reply was slightly cold which completely threw Samuel off; she noticed.

"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to snap like that." She spoke again, looking down at her laptop.

"It's okay, you clearly have some sort of personal issues with him, which I understand." Samuel nodded. He did understand.

It was quiet again.

"It's not that there's something I have with Alejandro in particular," she paused and then smiled sadly.

So that's who he was. Samuel thought as his eyes quickly flickered to the blonde boy and then back to Marina. Alejandro Velazquez; the twin brother of Alaska Velazquez, who he wouldn't openly admit he was slightly scared of for all the money in the world.

"And please, don't get it wrong. Alejandro and I used to be friends, just friends. He was like my brother even. And Alaska," she sighed, "that girl was my sister."

"Can I ask what happened?"

Marina turned to face him, smiling sadly again.

"About two, going on three years ago, something happened and they just stopped talking to us; all of us. First it was Alaska, then it was Ale. After months of asking, I just stopped trying. As sad as it is, a little part of me hoped that once she started dating my brother that he'd be able to convince her to be friends with all of us again but he couldn't. I guess it still hurts when I see them." She explained, her eyes drifting once more to the court.

Curiosity hit Samuel overwhelmingly and he had so many questions which he couldn't ask because Marina continued.

"But I don't want to talk about it anymore. Let's forget about that."

Then the bell rang, signalling the beginning of the next class, making Marina get up and gather her belongings to make a rushed exit.

Samuel watched as she scurried.

What happened?

-

"¿Qué tal estás hoy, Nadia."

Nadia's fingers froze with her pen in hand when she heard the voice she'd desperately been trying to avoid. She shrugged and continued writing out her notes without responding, which caused him to pull out a chair opposite her and sit down.

He chuckled.

"Nadia, I really wish you would give me a chance and get to know me," Guzman paused, gently taking her pen from her grasp which caused her to finally face him.

"Please return my pen, I have no interest in getting to know you." She snapped, attempting to grab the pen back.

But Guzman was one step ahead.

"How can you be so quick to pass a judgement on me for a situation you don't understand? Get to know me, because you are slowly becoming the friend of my girlfriend so that means we're going to be around each other more often so for the sake of respect-"

"Respect? Guzman please do not talk to me about respect when you have no respect for Alaska or yourself. I saw the two of you , you and Lucrecia, at your house during Marina's party. I'm not stupid. I know what happened, and the only reason I haven't told Alaska yet is only because I can tell what that would do to her. Not because I've known her long, but just from the way she talks about you and even just looks at you." Nadia ranted, her fists un-balling her fists and slamming her book as she stood up. Before she left though, she remembered to take her pen back from him and walked out of the library.

Lu sauntered over to the desk from behind the bookshelf to where Guzman sat with sickening guilt her persistently tried to swallow whenever he had to think about what it would do to Alaska on the inside if she ever found out.

He never once thought about himself when he felt guilty.

"Wow. I think Ms. Palestine is not going to make it easy for you." She said, sitting on the desk.

Guzman looked away as she touched his face.

"If I were you, I would put in a little more effort, cari"

"Please!-"

"Callate."Lu snapped at the girl who attempted to keep her and Guzman quiet. She turned to look at him again and leaned closer to his ear.

"Alaska, or anyone can never find out. So make sure you get that girl under a leash." With that, she patted his cheek and got up to walk out of the library.

Suddenly, he didn't know if he felt sick with guilt, or sick with himself.

"Hola mommy." Guzman greeted as he gave his mother a hug.

"Hola cariño."

"Are you okay?"

"Si-" his mother paused when he saw the small flash of blonde behind her son. Then she smiled.

"Bueno, bueno . . . and who do we have here? Little Ala?"

Marina looked up in surprise.

The blonde in question poked her head out from behind Guzman to give greet his mother.

"I haven't seen you around here in a very long time, well except at Marina's celebration, but I barely even talked to you there."

"We were just leaving to go and have a dinner, so I won't be home for it." He announced to the older brunette woman.

"That's okay dear. Have a fantastic time. Let me see more of you Alaska."

Ala smiled softly at the woman, nodding her head. However, as she entered the kitchen, she noticed Marina's presence and the smile inadvertently dropped off her face as they faced each other.

It was quiet in the kitchen as Guzman walked over to Marina to ask her how she was doing and Alaska stood stuck to the door, staring at the stove.

"You know mum only talks about my medication when she mixes anxiety meds with alcohol?" she frowned, looking at her brother.

"You know it's hard for her, Marina."

"Like it's a picnic for me?" she scoffed.

As Alaska listened in on the conversation, she began to feel very uncomfortable. Almost as though she didn't deserve to be there.

"Guzman, I'll wait for you outside okay?" she said, leaning off the door. The pair of siblings turned to face her.

Marina scoffed and closed her laptop screen.

"Since when did you ever have to? Don't worry, I'm leaving."

"Hey, Marina." Guzman stepped in.

"No, it's fine. Your guest shouldn't feel uncomfortable." She looked at Alaska.

Alaska couldn't help but stare at her as Guzman tried to calm her down. She felt emotionless as Marina's anxiety slowly began to overwhelm her, causing her to slip out quietly.

Despite the extensive history between her and Marina, Alaska had to admit that once upon a time, they were all closer than ever. When she had discovered that Marina had contracted HIV, contrary to beliefs that she was 'heartless', she broke down into her brother's shoulder later that evening upon discovery. That wasn't anything she would have liked to wish on anyone.

She waited In the hallway for a few minutes as Guzman continued to talk to Marina, until the door opened and it wasn't him, but his sister. Marina looked at her brother's girlfriend for a few seconds before finally walking away.

Alaska pursed her lips and exhaled.

Guzman walked out a few seconds later and smiled at her.

"Let's go." Was all he said and slung his arm over her shoulder as they walked to go outside.

With the events of the previous night still embedded in his brain, Christian had a different kind of spring in his step. He was more . . . relaxed? No. Energetic, extra energetic; Alaska noticed.

As she leaned on the wall and sipped from her apple and elderflower juice box, she chuckled as Christian noticed her and began to swing faster to get to her.

"Loski, mi reina y mi vida linda!"

His arms were open wide as she approached her.

She froze momentarily, but returned his small embrace. Then the bell rang.

"Today you and I are sitting next to each other in class, Loski."

"And why is that?" she asked as they began the walk to class.

"Porque bebita, we're friends now and friends sit by friends in class. Don't worry, your brother will survive one class without you beside him."

She laughed.

"What's your favourite colour? I want to get you a big crown in that colour to match that million dollar smile." He grinned.

She laughed again.

"Oro."

"Claro que si pero, I'm on a budget-"

She laughed again.

"No Christian, that's my favourite colour; gold."

"Joder. You surprise me you know that."

They turned the corner to head towards the class and Guzman sighed when he realised he didn't have time to catch up to him to ask him what he really needed to.

He saw Nadia instead staring at the trophy and then the familiar guilty feeling made a reappearance.

He walked to her.

"Hi, Nadia."

She didn't respond.

"Listen, I want to apologise about yesterday. What I wanted to say to you was that you were completely right. My actions have been selfish and you don't owe me any loyalty whatsoever. You were right."

Nadia glanced back.

"How can you do that to her? Like I said yesterday, and maybe I'm overstepping, but she really loves you."

"Listen, I'm taking the necessary steps to . . . ensure that I don't hurt her in all of this."

"So you intend to keep cheating on her?" Nadia folded her arms and turned to face him.

"That's not what I'm saying. My relations with Lu stop here and now, you're going to have to trust me on that."

He knew deep down, his relations with Lu weren't over.

"Guys, I thought I had explained myself clearly."

"When I read your profiles, I want to get a clear idea of who your partner is." Martin stressed, handing Alaska back her paper.

Alaska Velazquez could not stand Lucrecia Montesinos. When they ended up having to work together, she did everything in her power to ensure that she wouldn't need to talk to her at all and still get the project complete and still pass. For this reason, she intended to do the work by herself and use whatever information on Lu she had from back when they were close friends. And so she did. Lucrecia, determined to piss her off beyond belief told her that the information wasn't enough. And then told Martin.

"You're making too much effort, Martin," Lu started, smirking at the blonde who sat beside Christian, "for someone who doesn't even know what the word means."

Alaska felt her fists ball up on her laptop so tightly that her knuckles began to turn white. And then a palm clasped her fist, making her flinch.

"I don't know what that is between you two, but I know annoyance when I see it. Relax, hermosa." Christian spoke on the side of her.

She released a ragged breathe she didn't realise she was holding until she did.

She closed her eyes and began to count to ten.

Lu had always been entitled since a young age. She only became a nuisance to the blonde after she had cut her off. The thing about Lu was that Alaska could never properly bad mouth her nor could she do it in front of her face either; because of Guzman. Guzman had his boys, but his best friend was Lu and Alaska was never the type to force her boyfriend to break ties with someone who meant so much to him. So she tolerated her. However for months now, Lu was becoming intolerable by the minute. She was always so smug as though she knew something that no one else did. And it annoyed Alaska indefinitely.

"No, I'm not making too much of an effort . . ."

Alaska stopped paying attention to what Martin was saying as she focused on her breathing. She only forcibly opened her eyes when her apple watch vibrated on her wrist causing her to look at the device, seeing an iMessage.

Ale:

Relax and breathe, okay? I swear to you, she's not worth it.

That was just about enough to cause her to take one last deep breath and calm herself down. She unclenched her fists.

Lu was about to say something snarky when Guzman stopped her.

"Enough."

She scowled.

"Pero-"

"Calla." Alejandro silenced suddenly.

Lu scowled deeper.

"Oye princesa, I told you there was nothing to worry about." Christian nudged her arm from beside her.

She looked at Lu, who returned the eye, more smug than ever, as though she wanted someone to dare her . . . dare her to do or say something.

So no, Alaska did not feel like everything was okay.
