Patisserie

Florence grinned to herself at all the items she had packed, the girl heard a gentle knock on the door, causing her to look over her shoulder, to see who was waiting for her. A smile graced her lips once she saw her little brother, he walked in and flopped on her bed to see what she had. The boy looked at the photo album, smiling at the gift she planned on giving to their father, Mason looked through the photo album quickly, being careful with the pages and smiling at each photo that had been taken over the years.

"This one's my favourite," Florence whispered, pointing to the photo of her teaching Mason to rollerskate, he smiled at the photo reminiscing on the time, and she placed it in the bottom of the bag, which was covered by all her clothes and other items. Mason helped her carry the bag to the car, placed it in the back and then followed her back to the house. Everyone had finished packing up, with their gathered items that they'd have in the car with them.

Florence climbed into the very back with Mason, they sat in the back, while their older two sisters sat in the middle row and obviously their parents sat in the front. They lived all the way in Ottawa, Ontario and had planned to do a very long road trip down to Atlanta, Georgia. Everyone had a bottle of water with them and some food for the journey.

After a very long drive to America and a drive through the woods, they made it to the cabin they'd be staying at. Florence carried all her items to the room she'd wanted to be in, helped her family unpack the rest of their things and then settled and started making food for everyone.

It was by day three that they did a shopping run, grabbing items such as essential items, more non-perishables adding more to what they already had, period items, chocolates and a large carton of water bottles. So the girls were set, and would also be comfortable for quite a fair time, due to the fact the amount they bought because of the timing of each cycle and the fact that there were four of them with different requirements for their cycle. They were a decent way from town and didn't need to worry about other campers as this was the only cabin around for quite a while.

By their fourth day down in Georgia, the apocalypse had just broken out, they only knew because of their father. Dean had gone out to get some alcohol, the walkers were roaming around and the military patrolling the streets. He got out of there quickly, got back to the cabin and soon began running in survivalist mode.

He made sure the family car was securely locked away in the garage, which was guarded by a wooden wall and enclosed in a double box. The first one was the garage, and the second one was the 'courtyard' for the garage. It would be an effort if anyone wanted to break in and steal the car or other items.

Florence's father and brother placed sheets of metal over every window and door that led to an exit. They also added wooden planks for extra security, they weren't taking any chances, her father was in the military and so he had this paranoia-survivalist attitude about him. Barely any light lit up the house, they all stayed in separate rooms, yet kept each room with makeshift weapons that they'd hope could help kill the walkers.

The only way out was through the door to get inside the garage and then out of the large garage door. Added with the 'courtyard' and the large door that opened to the courtyard. Only her father left the house, he went on a couple of supply runs, gathering as much as he could before he decided to stay put in the cabin with the rest of his family.

Dean told his family to offload all their stuff, then only pack essentials into bags. They divided food evenly between everyone, and the girls divided sanitary items between each other, grabbing what they were more likely gonna need across the time or for however long they would need it. So each girl had a crapload of sanitary items in their bags along with food, clothes and undergarments. Each person then had three water bottles and a camelback that had water as well.

Soon Dean began taking Mason on runs, using him to help gather medical supplies, they were taking as much as they could of everything, even if it had no relevance to anyone in the family. Mason had many close calls in that one trip, scaring him enough to cause sleep to be non-existent for a little while. The Rileys soon discovered that the walkers died by a headshot, so if they left the cabin that's where they aimed.

Florence always had a weapon by her side, despite how safe it was in the cabin, Florence stayed by Mason's side, always doing what she could to help her baby brother. Anyway, Dean was the only one who left the house, keeping his family cooped up inside while he looked to see how everything was going, obviously wasn't going well and everyone was suffering because of something that caused the world to burn and die. It had been a couple of weeks, and they were rationing food, even though they had enough to last them a while.

Dean's trips outdoors became less frequent, the family trusted each other with keeping everything in check in order to make sure they stay safe. The girls didn't leave the house when they were on their periods, keeping themselves as far away from doors and windows as they possibly could so they didn't attract any more walkers down to their current safety hole.

About a week had passed, no herds had come past the house, the weather was relaxed and they were feeling too secure. Dean went five metres from the house in a four-way direction from the house, he didn't like what he saw and it hurt him to know that his family was no longer safe. Dean ran as silently as he could and got into the safety of his house. He made sure everything was sturdy, the family had all the bags ready to go, yet stayed in the safety of the centre. He prayed that they'd be okay, he wasn't ready to have his family face the real world.

"Stay down, stay quiet, there are guys out there, we need to stay down and safe." He informed making sure he stayed to the point, letting them know the severity of the situation. Florence grabbed her bag, placed it on her back and started lying on her stomach. She had a spear in her hands, holding it in a firm position that allowed her to attack whatever attacked her.

Though instinct got the better of her, she covered her head as bullets started piercing through the glass, wood and metal. Her ears ached, and her heart sped up at the increase of firing bullets, she jumped as she felt a hand on her back and glanced to see Mason staring at her. She pushed herself up, staying down lown, clutched onto her spear and crawled out with Mason.
