Camp

Florence sat in her tent, her bag resting inside it, she glanced at Mason and raised an eyebrow at how he had a dagger strapped to his side. He seemed to already be adapting to the changes that it took to survive, Florence didn't know if she had that in her.

"You're just like him, you know?" She whispered, Mason smiled slightly, shaking his head and gave her a gentle look.

"I'm just doing what all those others have been doing, I'm surviving. The walkers-"

"Walkers?"

"These guys call them that, I do the same, it's easier than calling them creepers and having the confusion." Florence nodded, thinking about the words, saying the word a couple of times to make sure she knew to call them walkers, especially if she'd be living with these new people.

"Who is everyone?"

"The men that found us, Daryl and Merle. A couple of rednecks, two blondes. Amy and Andrea. Sisters. Shane looks like he owns the place."

"Ah, G.I Joe."

"Don't be calling him that to his face, he's a dick but he keeps everything in check," Mason warned, knowing that even though his sister was quiet and polite to most people, she could lose it with people who were dicks and he had seen Shane's anger, didn't want to see her be on the receiving end of that.

"Two kids that I know of, Sofia and Carl. Sofia is Carol's daughter, she's got grey hair. Dale sits on top of the RV" Florence nodded, asking him to stop and took a breath.

"Flo, I'll get you some food, just rest up. I'll be back soon." Florence changed her clothes, grabbed the rest, grabbed a knife from her bag and began exploring the area, she found the quarry and sat on the dirt to wash her clothes, the blood drifted away in the water, and she felt a presence behind her and swiftly stood up, holding the knife to whoever was behind her.

"Easy there, not gonna hurt you." Florence stared at the older woman, she lowered the knife and quickly grabbed her floating clothes.

"I'm Carol, you're Florence, aren't you?"

"That's me." She stated quietly, taking a breath and giving an apologetic smile.

"I'm sorry."

"It's fine. I get it, we were all on edge to start with. We have a clothesline back at camp for you to put everything down. Just thought you should know, Shane doesn't like people going anywhere alone, it's too risky. Sorta like school again." Florence chuckled lightly, nodding and followed Carol back to base. She wasn't too fond of needing a buddy, however, she would gladly use her brother for the buddy system.

For the first couple of days, Florence only stayed in her tent, not talking to anyone besides Mason, she would eat and sit in the tent, looking through the photos. She knew she would never see her home again, never have her bed or the comfort of her own home and that upset her. She wasn't naive enough to think this was only happening in the States, it was happening all across the world, she took a breath and stepped out.

She glanced to see Merle and Daryl packing up, she raised an eyebrow as she headed over and glanced at Daryl.

"Finally come out of your hole?"

"Yeah, figure somebody would get shitty if I just take the food and do nothing else." He snickered and looked at his brother.

"We're going on a hunt, be back in a couple of days."

"Right see you when you get back."

"Baby brother, stop flirting with the new piece of ass and get you goddamn ass over here." Florence made a face, she swiftly turned around and grabbed an empty bucket. She started scavenging for some flowers and herbs, she knew what would be best and knew what to look for. Florence went back to camp, sat on a log that was near her tent and began going through everything.

"What are you doing?" Florence glanced up to see Carl, she gave a small smile and placed the herbs in the bucket.

"I've got herbs and flowers, to help with food and I know how to use a couple for medicine."

"Can I help?" The girl nodded, showing the boy what to do and glanced at him as he spoke.

"Do you miss home?" Carl questioned, the girl nodded, giving a faint smile and stopped for a moment.

"Yeah, I do. I miss home but I've got my brother and that's enough."

"Is it hard being in another country and not being able to do anything?" The questions were getting too much but she was okay to answer them.

"It is, I just hope that the people I know are okay and I hope the family that came here with me are okay." Carl went to ask another question, however, his mother stopped him.

"Leave the poor girl alone, Carl, Sofia wants you." The boy sighed, shaking his head and walked off. Lori sat down with the girl and gave a smile.

"Sorry about him, I think he just wants someone who understands it more than the others." Florence shook her head, giving a gentle smile, it was annoying but it didn't worry her any.

"It's fine, don't worry, I'm happy to answer questions. He's just a kid and he wants answers. I can answer them."

"Mason younger than you?"

"Yes, he's the baby of our family. Only 16, I got a younger sister and she's 20."

"Looks a lot older than 16."

"Sometimes I forget that he is 16, very mature." Lori nodded solemnly, it was scary in her mind at all the young ones in camp. Carl, Sofia, the other kids, Glenn, Amy, Mason and Florence. Lori sat with the girl, he started helping her with finishing the rest of the herbs.

Florence helped make everyone dinner, the brunette used some of the herbs and the rest for making herbal medicine. Everyone gave compliments to the chef, which made the girl feel useful and not incompetent for not doing anything. The night came, and the girl rested in the tent, the zipper tightly closed.
