Chapter VIII

Severa walked up to the prince and smiled.

"Does this mean that we're... together now?" Diaval asked with a small smile.

Severa mimicked the vampire's expression and answered his question by placing a kiss on his lips.

"I don't care what our rules say. I thought that I had to follow them for the rest of my days, but I now see that just isn't possible," Severa admitted, "I've been suppressing my feelings ever since the time we spent together at the fountain. I now see that was a difficult task from the beginning because my feelings towards you grew with each passing hour."

Diaval smiled down at the wolf as he listened to her words.

"What I said before about us not liking each other simply isn't true now," Severa said, looking up at the prince, "I like you, Diaval."

Diaval was about to smile when he raised a brow at the mercenary.

"Are you only saying that so that you can escape the loop to kill me?" Diaval asked.

"Not anymore. At first, I only saw you as the target that would set a loner like me for life. I had the intention to grow close to you and kill you when I had the chance. Now, I see you as the man I'd never thought I needed in my life," Severa confessed honestly, "If we're going to escape this loop, let's at least do it with real heartfelt feelings."

Diaval's smile finally appeared and he pulled the young mercenary close.

"Thank God, because I wouldn't have it any other way." Diaval said.

Severa smiled and embraced the vampire prince, Diaval gladly accepting the wolf's affection.

"So now that we completed chapter five, what's chapter six about?" Severa asked, pulling away from the prince.

Diaval thought for a moment and paced around the room.

"If my memory serves me right, in chapter six, the male lover says, 'Every prince must have a princess, and you, my dear, are the princess I've waited a thousand years for.'" Diaval said.

Severa smiled and shook her head fondly.

"So, chapter six is just about the two of us just saying sweet things to each other?" Severa asked.

"Pretty much, yeah." Diaval chuckled.

The mercenary sighed and looked up at the vampire with shimmering eyes.

"I haven't read your novel, but allow me," Severa said, straightening her posture, "My love for you is like a galaxy, every star is a reason for why I love you so."

Diaval chuckled and stroked Severa's brown hair.

"That's even better than what I wrote," Diaval said, "Ever consider becoming a poet?"

"Not in a million years!" Severa laughed.

Diaval laughed along before looking down at his wolf with loving eyes.

"When did you start falling for me?" Severa asked suddenly.

"When I saw you howling at the moon that one night." Diaval answered.

Severa cocked her head with a surprised look.

"You saw me?" Severa asked.

"Indeed. The moon simply couldn't do justice to your lovely features, for I only saw your silhouette." Diaval said.

Severa grinned and nodded.

"That's how it was for me when I couldn't see your face on the staircase." Severa said.

Diaval smirked as he listened to the mercenary.

"Changing the subject, what are you going to do once the loop breaks?" Diaval asked, "You'll be able to kill me and claim that reward for yourself. As you said, you'll be set for life."

"With your permission, of course, I was just going to kill another vampire, take out their heart, and have you spill your blood on it," Severa explained, "The alphas aren't that bright, but they can tell the difference between normal vampire blood and royal blood."

Diaval cocked his head to the side with a raised brow.

"How?" he asked.

"Experience, from what I hear, anyway." Severa answered nonchalantly.

Diaval nodded and let out a sigh, knowing good and well how the alphas can tell the difference between the two. Severa knew as well, she just didn't want to get into it.

"Onto the next chapter?" Severa asked.

"Yes," Diaval answered, "And this will be the last chapter before the loop ends."

Severa nodded as she listened to the vampire prince.

"So, what do we do?" Severa asked.

Diaval glanced at the mercenary with crimson and lust-filled eyes. He gently grabbed Severa's arm and pulled her into his chest.

"Sleep with me..." he said in a deep voice.

"W-What?!" Severa asked, her eyes wide and cheeks hot.

Diaval couldn't help but laugh at the wolf's reaction.

"I'm kidding, I'm kidding!" Diaval laughed, "I'm a patient man and I'm willing to wait until you're ready."

Severa clutched her chest and breathed out a heavy sigh.

"You gave me quite the scare there..." Severa said.

Diaval chuckled and looked down at Severa with loving eyes. He sighed heavily as he looked out the window. The sky was orange, and the sun was sinking into the ground.

"It's getting late," Diaval said, "Tomorrow, we'll break the loop."

Severa nodded and followed the dark prince to her room.

"Good night, wolfy." Diaval said.

Severa chuckled and placed a kiss on the prince's cheek.

"Sweet dreams, batsy." she said.

She walked into her room and closed the door behind her. Sighing heavily, Severa walked over to the balcony and leaned against the iron bar, watching the silver moon rise. Before she could turn into her hybrid, she felt a pair of eyes on her. Turning around, Diaval was right behind her.

"Guess your senses are stronger than I thought." Diaval said, standing beside her.

Severa chuckled and leaned her head against the vampire's shoulder.

"I was about to howl at the moon, but I was so rudely interrupted by a vampire." she joked.

Diaval couldn't help but laugh at his wolf's comment.

"Will howling with you make it up to you?" Diaval asked.

The young wolf stared at the vampire prince with confusion written on her face.

"You? Howl?" Severa asked, "Not to clip your wings, but you're not a werewolf."

Diaval raised a brow with a cocky grin on his face. Snapping his fingers, Diaval sprouted black ears and a matching black tail.

"You were saying?" he asked.

Severa laughed and turned back to the silver moon. When she turned into her hybrid form, she let out a howl to the heavens. Diaval smiled and joined, letting out a handsome howl.

"You're a natural," Severa complimented, "Have you been practicing?"

"I'm over a hundred years old. I've been listening to the wolves in the forest and started copying them," Diaval said, "My father and brothers hated it whenever I howled."

Severa laughed and let out another howl. The prince smiled and copied his lover. The pair smiled when they heard other howls in the distance.

"Hey, do you want to go on a midnight fly?" Diaval asked, making his ears and tail disappear.

"Uh... I can't fly..." Severa said.

Diaval chuckled took hold of Severa's dark-skinned hands.

"If I can howl, you can fly." Diaval said nonchalantly.

That's when the two of them started floating up in the air. Severa looked down at the castle below as they rose higher in the air.

"Like the view?" Diaval asked.

"It's beautiful..." Severa said in awe.

The pair soon flew in front of the moon, their silhouettes being the only thing visible to any passerby. Severa and Diaval smiled at one another with glee-filled eyes. Their faces drew closer to one another, and their lips sealed the space between them.

Morning dawned and Diaval and Severa were taking a stroll through the park, hand-in-hand. The two stopped in front of the fountain and sat on its edge.

"So, are you going to tell me why you brought me out here to the park?" Severa asked, "Aren't we supposed to be doing the final chapter?"

"We are, and we're going to fulfill it." Diaval said, his voice stern yet gentle.

The vampire prince took hold of Severa's hands and stared into her dark brown eyes.

"I know this is what my novel says but I'm doing this out of my own free will; because I love you that much." Diaval said.

Diaval got down on one knee and Severa's mind went blank.

"Severa Hatari, despite what our rules say, will you marry me?" Diaval asked.

His words caught Severa off guard; the young mercenary was left speechless.

"Yes... Yes, I will!" Severa cried happily.

Diaval smiled widely and stood up, looking down at his wolf.

"We'll have to keep our relationship a secret, of course." Diaval said.

"But when the time comes, we'll reveal to all of Caldore that we can be unified." Severa said.

Diaval nodded in agreement. Their faces drew closer, and the pair shared a loving kiss. They then felt as if a weight had been lifted off their shoulders.

"The loop is broken." Diaval said.

"Finally." Severa said.

The mercenary then punched Diaval in the arm.

"Okay, ouch!" the prince whined, rubbing his arm.

"Ah, sweet mileage," Severa sighed, "I've been wanting to do that ever since you put that charm on me."

Diaval only chuckled.

"Okay, I deserved it, but you didn't have to hit so hard." Diaval complained.

"Be lucky I didn't aim for your chest," Severa said, "I could've blown you back into the wall."

The pair laughed at their bantering.

"Can you turn into your werewolf form for me?" Diaval asked.

"Why? Feeling nostalgic?" Severa asked.

Diaval only nodded. Severa rolled her eyes and turned into her hybrid form; her eyes turning ice-blue and her hair matching Diaval's eyes.

"There's the wolfy I've come to know and love." Diaval said, patting the mercenary's head.

Severa leaned into his touch and smiled.

"I love you, Diaval." Severa said suddenly.

"And I love you, Severa." Diaval said.

The two proved their love with a passionate kiss.
