Chapter One
For as long as she could remember, Gemma always had friends. Up until the day they all betrayed her. Humiliated her. Gemma was too nice, and they used that to their advantage, exploiting her innocence for their own cruel purposes. Even though the betrayal of Gemma Collins so called 'friends' was horrible enough for her to want to take that shiny, glittering blade and slice her wrists so that sweet liquid of life poured from her veins in such a way that could only bring pleasure to Gemma's broken mind, it was the best thing that had ever happened to her. On the day she was betrayed, Gemma's fragile, innocent mind broke, and only Jessie could put the pieces back together.
Gemma didn't know where Jessie came from, but she did know that without Jessie, Gemma would have fallen to the temptations that death had offered her. Jessie offered her a different option, the best friend she had always longed for, and a chance at revenge.
Gemma's first class was AP Chemistry. A slight grin pinned itself on her face as she walked into the classroom. Her eyes gazed over the cabinets that stored the substances and chemicals that they used in class, then drifted to the tall tables lined neatly in a row, and finally to the students sitting at those tables.
Like always, Gemma tried to ignore the whispers and rumors that came flying out of her classmates mouths, but the more she tried to ignore them the louder their whispers became.
Such a tryhard, One voice scoffed.
Doesn't she know how ugly she is? Another laughed.
Why does she even bother getting up in the morning, she should just kill herself, it'd do us all a favor.
But then Jessie was there, saving the day as usual. Comforting her and blocking out the voices that still rang in her ears.
"You really shouldn't have to put up with this shit." Jessie told her, sliding into the chair next to Gemma. "You really need to start standing up to these kids, you don't deserve any this, it's cruel."
Gemma opened her mouth to reply, but the door opened and in walked a kid that Gemma had never seen.
"Who is that?" Jessie exclaimed, standing up from her chair.
"Ah, Mr. Shaw, how nice of you to join us." their teacher, Mr. Nelson chimed, looking down at his clipboard. "You can sit over there, next to Gemma."
Gemma's jaw dropped, and she began stuttering and stammering, but Jessie spoke first. "It's okay, I'll just go sit in the back." Gemma didn't understand why their teacher made the new kid sit next to her, and ignored Jessie altogether, but she didn't have time to think it over.
"I'm Alec," A voice spoke. "I just moved here." Gemma tried to glare at him, but she couldn't help but notice how gorgeous he was. He was tall, had dark hair, and his eyes were the most interesting shade of green that Gemma had ever seen. Still bitter over him taking Jessie's seat, Gemma ignored him, looking back at Jessie with a pleading look. Jessie smirked, and motioned to Alec, encouraging her to talk to him, but Gemma remained silent. Alec was about to say more, but their teacher started droning on about chemical equations.
Although Gemma spent most of her summer at a chemistry camp at the local college, she hated her AP Chemistry class. She already knew the most of the material in the class, and found their teacher to be incredibly boring.
The rest of the class went by smoothly. Alec continued trying to talk to her, and Gemma continued to ignore him. When the bell rang, she shot up from her seat and walked straight over to Jessie.
"He likes you." Jessie stated without looking up from were she was putting her homework back into her folder.
"No he doesn't. And it doesn't matter anyways I don't like him! How could he just take your seat as if you weren't even there! It's ridiculous!" Gemma ranted, as she grasped her books even tighter, and mumbled to herself, "I hate this school."
"Yeah me too," Jessie responded as she stood up from her desk and started walking towards the door with Gemma by her side. "I hate this school and all the horrible people inside it. I hate how they treat you, how they whisper behind your back like you can't hear them. How they judge every little thing that you do. How they watch every step you take just waiting for you to trip so that they can kick you while your down." Jessie stopped walking, and looked straight into Gemma's eyes. "You can't keep living like this. We have to do something to make them stop before you can't handle it anymore. Before they hurt you so badly that you can't get back up again." Jessie sighed, "I promise I will always be here to help you. I won't ever leave you, and I will do absolutely anything to stay by your side. I will always protect you, no matter what it takes."
