17 | THE PREMIERE
BOB STOOD IN front of the deep black canvas planted within the ground behind him, his appearance smothered with the sound of clicking camera's and flashing lights whilst his girlfriend, Anastasia, stirred beside him, urging him to move forward, for the paparazzi to take more photographs of the "love struck" couple.
Other than supposed to be having his focus utterly on his girlfriend beside him, his eyes scanned the perimeter around him, searching for those large, familiar chocolate brown eyes and giddy smile; Nora.
Bob often imagined how different the situation would be if his best friend was beside him, his arm around her waist and her forehead he kissed in front of the cameras. He was an extremely dazed and confused man, he loved Anastasia, right?
An enormity of flashing lights and an eruption of yells and screams took place a few metres beside him as a black car pulled up on the street opposite the premiere screening. Bob watched carefully as the car came to a sudden halt, his expression softening as he admired Nora's exit from the car, both clumsy and graceful at the exact same time. He watched as the fans screamed at her sudden appearance. She was fashionably late, of course.
Bob snickered as she stumbled slightly, tripping over her own feet before Richard was beside her in an instant, his arm linking immediately with hers as they walked across the street, waving and signing autographs for fans as they passed by.
Bob's fist tightened as he watched the two laugh together, their closeness eliciting a sudden race of familiarity inside him, the only feeling he felt as he saw Nora with another man; jealousy.
But Bob couldn't be jealous, could he? He couldn't admit his confused feelings towards Nora, feelings that he couldn't acknowledge himself. With these feelings erupting inside of him, Bob always knew that if he spoke truthfully about it, their place as best friends and their relationship as co-stars would cease. But Bob always knew that he couldn't deny this feeling, the same way he felt this way all those years ago, especially when she moved away to pursue her acting career.
He never thought she would come back, or remember him for that fact. So as soon as Anastasia walked back into his life, he took the chance in an order to get over his absence of his best friend of 24 years, and as soon as she returned back into his life, the feelings had returned all over again.
Consumed within his countless, confusing thoughts, he didn't seem to realise Nora's sudden appearance beside him.
"Bob!" Nora squealed, taking her arm from Richard's and running over to him, heels and all.
Bob caught her right before she fell into his arms, sending an orchestra of clicking, screaming and flashing lights in front of the pair as they captured the quite hilarious moment.
Bob laughed as he helped her up on her two feet, hugging her tightly before posing for photos, leaving Anastasia standing awkwardly on the side.
Bob turned toward Nora, his eyes trailing from her feet to her face slowly, consuming her appearance with his eyes. He smiled at the thought of Nora without her usual tracksuit pants and hoodie, "You look absolutely beautiful, Nora-Lei,"
Nora raised an eyebrow at him, her firm grip still placed on his shoulders, "A compliment from Bobby?" she winked, before raising up on her tip toes and pressing her lips softly to his cheek. As Bob flushed, Nora snickered as another eruption of flashing, screaming and cameras smothered their sight. "You look pretty smashing yourself, Bob," she winked, before walking down the carpet for solo photographs.
Anastasia, in a huff, turned toward Bob, "I'm getting a drink," she snapped, before turning on her heel, making her way past Nora with admirable distance. Bob snickered at the tension Anastasia had brought toward Nora's appearance, believing that some words were definitely spoken between the two of them.
"Way to make it obvious, dickhead," Richard's voice sounded from beside him.
Bob flinched as he turned toward his best friend, as if to eliminate his thoughts about his infatuation.
"Make what obvious?"
Richard snorted, "do I even have to explain?"
Bob knew exactly what Richard was talking about, before he sighed. Rubbing both his hands down his face, he watched Nora once again. Her effortless beauty amazed him, as he couldn't quite comprehend that she was actually real at times.
Watching her in a daze, Bob sighed as he turned toward Richard once more, a breathless sentence escaping his lips, "No, you don't. I know exactly what you're talking about."
"Tell her, man," Richard spoke seriously. "What have you got to lose?"
"Everything, Richard," Bob spoke back almost immediately, signalling Richard to raise an eyebrow questionably at his best friend. "I mean, I don't even know myself what I'm feeling toward her. It could ruin everything."
Richard placed a firm hand on Bob's shoulder, giving him a small shake. "Confront your own feelings first, truthfully, before you push her away for good. You oblivious bastard."
Richard then left his side, posing for photos between all of the co-stars, but Bob's eyes never left Nora. Richards last comment was cemented in his mind as he watched Nora laugh along with Marie and Eliza, before taking pictures with everyone else. He knew these feelings were strong, but confronting them would be a challenging concept; a concept Bob didn't know if he was ready to be truthful about.
