Chapter 111

A/n: That moment when you have to use a calculator to figure out a character's age 😂

I LITERALLY KEEP CHANGING LUCIA'S AGE. At one point I think I made her like 40 or something.

So, I used a calculator to see what it would realistically be. She gave birth to Virgil at either 18 or 19 i'm pretty sure, and Virgil is 17, so realistically, Lucia would be 35 or 36 years old.

I'm locking her age in at 35, BOOM. It's been done. Now I can go write this down in my notes somewhere so I can remember.

Lucia'a eyes almost teared up every time Alex and Virgil interacted. They were so sweet, and playful with each other. Alex was almost parental towards him.

She knew it was good for Virgil; to have a positive fatherly figure in his life, and Alex seemed to fit that role. He didn't mind, he was actually happy with it. He never thought he'd want to be a part of a family ever again after what his had did to him. But, the moments they had, they were sweet, and calm. And he liked it.

Lucia and Alex often talked together about what may happen in the future. Would they still be friends once Alex moved out?

Alex asked her about a boyfriend, what her future would look like, and Lucia would just laugh, and say, "I don't think I could ever be with a man again after that."

"Oh, so a boy-"

"Alex!" Lucia gasped, "I would never!" She chuckled.

Now that she thought about it, it always felt so wrong being with Andrew..especially when he'd have sex with her.

It kinda grossed her out. Not sex itself, just..Andrew. Maybe it was something else, she wasn't sure...

"Oh, you know i'm just joking" Alex said, rolling his eyes in a playful manner.

Alex and Lucia's relationship kinda looked like it should have been in a romantic drama movie. A thief and a formerly abused, divorced pregnant woman with a moody teenager meet each other after an attempted mugging run in with each other. The thief is given a second chance through the kindness of the woman, and then they eventually fall on love. The end.

However, they were definitely going to keep it platonic. They hadn't even thought about getting together, despite that they were living together. They didn't have an interest in that.

"Well, i've gotta head down to work, those cakes aren't going to bake themselves! Bye-bye!" Lucia smiled, grabbing her pastel blue purse.

"Actually, I should get to work too!" Alex responded, grabbing his purse as well.

"Honestly, i'd forget my head if it weren't for you!" Alex chuckled.

"Which one?" Lucia smirked.

It took him a second.

"LucIA-!" He gasped, watching her cackle as she walked out the door.

A peppy lady in her mid-thirties walked down the street one evening, skipping down to her job. She was happy to get there, and greet her co-workers. She decided not to take her car, as to enjoy the weather. It was nice out.

The sunlight engulfed her face with warmth, and the slight breeze made it even more enjoyable.

She was lean and fit. Some mistook her as ten years younger than she was, and it kinda made her feel old.

She wasn't even middle aged yet.

On the outside, she seemed sweet as sugar. But she could easily morph into a sarcastic, smart mouthed pessimistic person ready to ruin your day. Her high school emo phase never quite left her.

Her purse clicker-clackered by her side,  her long, golden hair flowing behind her, being carried away by the wind.

She was just a while away from the bakery where she worked, when all of a sudden, a hand was slapped against her mouth, and she was carried away behind a tall bush near the bakery.

Shocked, she screamed, seeing a woman walk out of the bakery, probably to take the trash out.

The woman noticed the scream, and dropped the garbage bag, looking at the woman being carried away in shock, before springing into action, grabbing pepper spray out of her pastel blue purse.

She ran over and sprayed the man in the face.

The man yelled in pain, swinging his knife around, and cutting the blonde woman from the elbow to the hand, and then he ran off.

"Andrew..." Lucia whispered, throwing the pepper spray into her bag and telling another worker, who had seen the whole thing, to call the police.

She watched as Andrew hopped into a car and sped away. The car he was in was fancy, and she snapped a picture of the license plate, sending it to Paul. She basically had him on speed dial by now.

"Oh my gosh, Alice!" Lucia panicked, seeing the long, bleeding cut.

She grabbed her co-worker, and brought her inside, helping her in. She sat her down in the break room, cleaning and disinfecting her wound, before wrapping it up, and deeming it okay.

"Alice, are you alright?!" Lucia asked quickly, looking into her Emerald eyes.

"Oh my goodness-yes, i'm alright" Alice replied, "thanks for the help."

"Yeah, I always keep my pepper spray with me. Never know when you're going to have to blind someone" she joked.

She felt bad that Alice was attacked by her idiot ex. She knew Alice like her knew the back of her hand, and if one thing was for sure, the fact that Alice didn't have a heart attack or pass out was a miracle.

She was very jumpy, and could not deal with blood at all.

She was shaking, probably overthinking that she could've died or gotten kidnapped. So even though she said she was fine, Lucia knew that she wasn't.

"Alrighty, come on, you can sit here for a while-or something. Jamal showed up for once so unless you want to be on serving duty, you don't really have to work unless you want to. You've been working here for years now, you could definitely take one of those 'full-pay sick days' or whatever the boas is calling them, he'll understand, i'm sure" Lucia reassured.

"Damn right i'll understand, the hell happened?!" Their boss asked, being informed of the situation by Jamal, coming in as soon as he heard of it.

So, basically, she did get to take that sick day, and Lucia, whose shift was over, decided to take her home.

"So, Alice, sorry I couldn't come to that crawfish boil last week, I had a few pressing matters to attend to. Well, that, and the baby doesn't like seafood-even the smell of it makes me queasy" she chuckled.

"Oh, that's alright. I forgot you were pregnant for half a second, so when you were hobble-running over to me with that pepper spray, I was so confused with that baby practically flying from side to side" she chuckled.

"Don't make fun of my chubby little babe!" Lucia pouted playfully.

"Oh, i'm sorry for offending the child. Hopefully it won't attack me" Alice joked.

"Oh, don't doubt it, this thing is ferocious!"

They bantered back and forth about the baby throughout the car ride, and playfully joking around about some things.

They soon quieted down to listen to some podcast playing on the radio.

The silence was comfortable, and it was always great fun when Alice was around. She had a way of brightening up the room, or-in this case the car-with just her presence.

Alice was great.
