"Happy Birthday, Sofia!  I can't believe my baby girl is ten years old!"

Jessica smiles and hugs her mother tightly.

"I love you.  You are the sweetest little girl ever, and I'm so proud to be your mommy"

"Awe!  Thanks, momma!"

Jessica smiles and kisses her cheek.

"So!  What do you want to do for your birthday?  Wanna have a shopping day with mommy? We can buy a whole bunch of new stuff, and get a new outfit for your birthday party on Saturday!" Jessica says with excitement.

"Can my friend Alexis come with us?"

Jessica's smile fades.

"Sure.."

"Yay!  Thank you, mom!"

Sofia runs off to get ready and Jessica speaks in a sad voice, "Mom?  What about mommy or momma?  Danny my babies growing up!" Jessica begins to cry.

"Aw babe, she's still your little girl!"

"But she's a big girl now!  Danny, she's a pre teen and.. Well I'm noticing changes in her."

"What do you mean?"

"Her attitude is changing and.. Ugh, I don't know.  I really need to talk with her."

"Jess, about what?"

"Periods!"

"Oh!  Oh that!  You think she's going to?  She's only ten!"

"Well of course she's going to eventually, Danny!"

"When did you start yours?"

"Twelve.. I know she knows about it, but I still need to be a good mother and talk to her about it.  Ooh!" Jessica gets an idea that makes her excited.

"What?"

"Honey, go to the store and pick my up pads, liners, tampons, everything!"

"Why?  Are we getting ready for the apocalypse?"

"Danny please!"

"I hate buying that stuff!  You don't have your period anymore, I thought those days were over!"

"You have two daughters, those days are far from over!"

"Well what are you gonna do?"

"I'm making a period basket!" She smiles.

Danny laughs and Jessica whines.

"It's a good gift!"

"No honey, it's a very good gift.. She'll love it even more than the new phone we got her."

"Oh Daniel Huston you go to hell!" Jessica storms off.

"I love you too, honey!"

Jessica took Sofia and her friend shopping, and seeing her so grown up made her so sad.

After a couple hours of shopping they decided to eat lunch in one of the restaurants at the mall.

"Mom!  Since I'm ten now and practically a teenager, can I have a Instagram?"

"No you may not!"

"But mom!" Sofia whines.

"No ma'am.  We don't like social media."

"No. You Don't. Just because you don't doesn't mean I can't!"

"Sofia, I said no.  That's it."

"Can I have a snapchat?"

"A snap what?"

"A snapchat."

"You have to let her get that, Mrs. Huston!" Sofia's friend says.

Jessica looks at her and says, "I don't think I asked you."

"Mom!" Sofia's eyes widen.

"And don't call me mom!"

"What else am I supposed to call you?"

"Momma of mommy!  Like you always do, sweetie!"

Sofia's face turns red and her eyes widen.
Jessica was embarrassing her and she knew it.

"Am I embarrassing you?"

"Yes!"

Jessica tears up and her lips quiver.

"Mom. Don't."

Jessica looks away and places her hand on her mouth.

"Mom, we're gonna go finish shopping."

"F-Fine!" She struggles to say.

".. Excuse me, ma'am.. are you okay?" The waitress asks her when she sees Jessica crying all alone.

"My baby's TEN!" Jessica let's a sob escape her lips.

"And then she started talking but it wasn't my little girl!  She was this mean moody little brat!" Jessica cries as she explains the story to Danny.

"But are you still giving her the gift basket?" He says in a serious voice.

"Oh God!"

"Well I bought the store out of feminine hygiene products!"

Jessica rolls her eyes and ignores him.

"I hate that I'm this emotional!  I'm going through changes too!  Menopause!  Because of my hysterectomy.  I can be moody too!"

"I didn't say anything!  I just asked about the basket."

"I'm gonna shoves the basket up your ass if you don't just give me five minutes to myself."

"You were talking to ME!"

"Get out!"

Jessica cried alone in her room while Danny sat in the living room with the kids.

"Sofia, can you come in here, please?" Jessica asks looking over from the top of the stairs.

"Sure."

Sofia walks in and Jessica was sitting on the bed.

"Come sit, Princess."

"What's up?"

"I'm sorry I embarrassed you.. It's just hard seeing my little baby grow up... and when I saw you at the mall with your friend.. It made me realize just how grown up you are.  Your changing.. Your attitude is changing.. You're not a little girl anymore.  I'm sorry I got a little emotional."

"It's okay, mommy."

"Mommy?" Jessica smiles softly.

Sofia nods. "Mhm.  I shouldn't be embarrassed calling you that in public. I'm sorry."

"Oh sweetie, it's okay!"

Jessica hugs her tight and kisses her head.  I love you so much!"

"I love you more!"

"I have one other thing I wanted to talk with you about.."

"Okay."

"So.. You're getting to be at that age where things happen and change with your body, and.. I want you to be prepared."

"Okay."

"After crying over how grown you are, I made this for you!" Jessica smiles and walks to her closet to pull out her basket.

"A basket?!  What is i-- Ohh.. Heh!  You got me these things." Sofia says picking up a box of tampons.

"I want you to be prepared!  I bought this book for you when you were still in my tummy.  Ready it, it'll help you understand things a little bit better."

Sofia quickly scans the book and she chuckles at some of the pictures inside.

"Thanks momma, I love it."

"Good! It'll come in handy one day!" Jessica smiles and hugs her tight.

"Yes. But momma. I'm never using these!" Sofia points to the tampons with a horrified expression.

"Haha! It's okay, baby girl."

The next day was another very important date.
It had been two years since Arabella came home after being in the NICU over three months.

Today they were doing something special to celebrate. They took her back to the NICU for a little reunion with the people that saved her life, and she even stood tall in front of the NICU.

It was an emotional day for everyone especially Jessica.

"Arabella, these are the people that saved your life! Can you say thank you?" Jessica asks bouncing Arabella on her hip.

"Tank yew!" Arabella says cutely.

"Awe! You're so welcome, precious girl! We're all so proud of you!" One of the nurses tears up.

Jessica smiles and kisses Arabella's cheek.

"We really appreciate everything you all did.." Jessica tears up and her lips quiver.

"We owe you so much.. Thank you so much for saving our little girl."

"Oh honey!" The woman hugs her.

"Don't thank us. It's what makes us happy. We were put on earth to save these precious little lives.." She says softly caressing Arabella's arm.

Arabella giggles randomly and the woman chuckles.

"Little giggles and precious smiling faces like this make all that hard work so so worth it."

Jessica smiles softly.

"Cwy?" Arabella says softly touching her mother's cheek.

"I'm okay, bab-"

"No Cwy!" Arabella says in a demanding voice as she slaps her tiny hand on Jessica's cheek.

Jessica laughs. "You little booger!"

Jessica kisses her over and over again making Arabella laugh uncontrollably.
