Finding Alli
Byron's POV:
I had honestly forgotten that Thanatos was there. And when I remembered he was there, I remembered what he said a minute ago. I was about to ask him what he meant earlier when he said, "I will send you to retrieve Alli before she crosses the River of Styx, or else she'll be gone for ever," after he said that he added, "And if you don't you might not want to return," then everything went dark. The last thing I heard was Alli's monitor abruptly stop beeping.
Alli's POV:
When my feet touched the gritty sand I instantly knew I was dead. I had heard tales from my parents about how the River of Styx took dead souls to the Underworld. How you could just hear the lost souls wailing to pass, or because they wanted to return to the living. They also explained how you seemed to want to fix old mistakes, or do some things again one last time. I remember asking them how they knew and they would always say the same thing, "We'll tell you when your older." I guess I was remembering how rude I was to Byron because I swear I heard him calling my name. I so wished it to be true, but at the same time I didn't. If it was true then that would mean he was dead too, and I didn't want that. But I heard my name being called again, only this time he was much closer. I was pretty sure this time I heard him for real, so I answered. And that's when I saw him, his eyes full of life and his smile as bright as the sun. He looked like that for three seconds, then he saw me.
Byron's POV:
When I saw Alli I felt as the someone had just kicked me in the stomach. Seeing her in the among of all of these dead people, paler than most of them, and fallowing the same path as them it finally hit me: Alli is dead. I didn't want to believe it when Thanatos sent me after, when I heard her heart monitor stop. I thought that was just an illusion, not that it really happened. But seeing her now, it hit me like a sledgehammer. She must have seen the sadness in my eyes because she walked over to me and tried to comfort me. Now I feel really bad. Alli is the one who's dead and she's trying to comfort me. After a minute she looked longingly over my shoulder and said, "I'm so sorry Byron but I got to go, I wish I could stay but at the same time I don't. I never really fit in with all of the others and-"She didn't get to finish because I barged in and said, "No Alli, you're coming with me, your dad's orders." Her eyes were wide as she said, "Not possible! One-My dad is dead. Two-I'm dead," while she stated the last part she chocked a little, "And Three-I'm already across the river, it won't work." It was my turn to be confused now, and I said, "You can't be across the river already, you haven't been dead that long. And don't you have to pay some kind of fee to cross?" Alli just smiled sadly and said, "Aging-Immortals don't have to pay a fee, and as soon as they die they are already across the river. We just have to wait to see if we were bad or good, we don't get an in-between fate, and see if we go to paradise or not. If we do go to paradise, we go to the island because we don't get the chose of starting over. The only bad part is that two people come with you, one representing the good of you and the other the bad. But they have to make an honest choice, not just vote for one side because they could...make them disappear or were a really good friend of theirs when they were alive." As she was talking I noticed that I was starting to feel real queasy, and she was starting to solidify and look alive. She must had noticed too because she looked at me dead in the eye ;no pun intended, and said, "You have to leave now Byron, I don't know why I didn't remember this before but if a living mortal or demigod is in the presence of a ghost that ghost will start stealing their life force, even if they don't want to. Tell whoever let you in here to get me I said I want to stay, but I will miss y'all," she finished up her speech with tears in her eyes. I wished that I could do something to help her, and I couldn't leave without her. I looked at her and said, "Alli, I'm not going to leave when you need someone take you back..." but I got really dizzy all of a sudden when a new voice said, "Why do demigods always come to my domain to steal, and most of them come from my two brothers."
