Adam's POV

I slowly opened my eyes when a sharp pain ran through my head, making me close them again. The noises around me were loud, and I couldn't exactly pin point where I was.

When the ache reduced a little, I tried to open my eyes again. The blurs became more visible, and all I hoped for at that time was that, what I was seeing wasn't real. I saw Kathie, lying on the ground a few feet away. Gathering all the strength I could, I got up and gingerly walked to her.

As I got closer, I saw that blood was flowing out of her, and it was coming out fast. Quickening the pace, I got to her and kneeled down. I held her in my arms, screaming her name out loud, praying that she could hear me and open her eyes.

I checked for a pulse but I found non. Even her body had gone full on cold. That was when I realized that I was holding a corpse, the corpse of my now dead wife.

I began to cry then, holding her to me, saying sweet nothings to her. People began to gather around us, creating a perfect circle. The more they came, the louder it got around us. I looked at their faces, and they were angry at me, all of them. Even the little black haired girl that I didn't know was angry.

Suddenly, the crowd disappeared and the place was left with a deadly silence. A violent wind began to blow, making the leaves in the trees make noise. I closed my eyes, hoping to block my eyes from the dust in the air.

When the wind steadied, I opened them to the shock of my life. A ghost hovered in front of me, but what shocked me more than anything was that it looked like Katherine. Blonde hair, blue eyes, yet she was wearing a white flowing dress.

"K..k k. Katherine?"

She smiled at me, and spoke in a voice that sounded like the wind, soft, yet steady.

"Hello, Adam."

Eyes widening, I looked down to see that I was holding her dead body, yet, she stood in front of me. Shaking my head repeatedly, I opened my eyes, only to see that she was still there.

"This can't be happening."

"But it is, Adam."

I looked at her again, but the smile was gone.

"It's time to let me go, my love."

Holding Kathy's dead body closer to mine, I screamed in defiance, stating that I would never let go of her.

"I love you, Adam. I always will, but it is time for you to let me go."

"No!! Never!"

My loud cries of defiance ended up being whispers.

"If I let you go, who will I have then?"

She crouched down, till we met eye to eye.

"You have what our love produced, our Emilia, and the one whom the Lord has sent into your life."

Confused, I looked at her.

"What? Who? Who is it??"

She stood and slowly began to disappear. Just when I realized what was happening, I yelled for her to stay a while but she just vanished. The body also began to disappear. Everything began to disappear until I had no ground to stand on. I began to fall, deep into a deep dark abyss. Never ending.

I woke up with a sharp breath, my body drenched in sweat from the dream. My hands shakily wiped the sweat off my foreheads.

The sun had just risen, meaning that it was a few minutes after six in the morning. I got out of bed and walked to the bathroom, still disoriented from the dream. As I took a shower, the drops beat on my body, making me feel a little better, but the details of the dream were still vivid.

It's time to let me go, my love.

I dressed up in a black suit, and just combed my hair with my fingers.

When I got downstairs, Emilia was already having breakfast, and Ms Rollins wasn't there with her.

"Good morning, Dad."

"Morning sweetie. Dad can't sit for breakfast today. He has to go to work early."

She sulked then, making me feel dad for wanting to leave a little earlier than usual today.

"I'll make it up to you."

"CARNIVAL! There's a carnival passing by this weekend."

I patted her head, and told her that we'd go there together, then said my goodbyes.

Children. So easy to please.

******

Walking into my building, people greeted me but I just kept quiet, mind preoccupied. To some people, it might have been a simple dream, but I felt it. It wasn't just a dream, it felt real. Everything felt real.

When I got into the office, James was already sitting on the chair, signing files. When he looked at me, the smile that was on his face got wiped off and was quickly replaced with a slight frown. His overall features, however, showed concern.

"Woah!! Which side of the bed did you wake up on?"

I sighed, sitting in my own chair, feeling fatigued, even though I didn't go for my run in the morning.

"It wasn't a peaceful night."

"What happened, man?"

I told him all that had happened in that dream, not leaving out each and every detail. When I was done, his eyebrows were high on his forehead, which was exactly what I had expected from him.

"Wow! So.....what do you think?"

"I......I honestly do not know, my friend. She talked about the Lord sending someone into my life."

Just then, my phone rang. I picked it up without looking at the caller.

"Hello."

A nasal voice greeted me back, making me regret taking the call.

"Mr Carter. We really are sorry for the way we treated Ms Rollins."

"Well, you should've thought about it before you insulted her like that. I do not want any employee of mine being belittled like that. I just hope that you've learnt your lesson, and.....be nicer to people next time. Good day, do not call me again."

Before she said anything else, I disconnected the call.

"Well, that was interesting."

James had a smirk on his face, which made me roll my eyes and pick a file from the finance department.

"The women who clean up my house insulted Ms Rollins yesterday. I fired three of them."

His smirk began to turn into a smile, and that smile did not promise anything good.

"So......you fired three women because they insulted Leila?"

"Yes. I do not want to create horrible working environments for my workers. They deserve the best."

He pretended to scratch his chin, and made 'mmhm' sounds that irritated!e to the core.

"The best, ey? Mmmmm hmm......"

I replied, not taking my eyes off of the file in my hand.

"Where exactly are you going with this, James?"

He stood up and came to my side of the table and sat on it.

"Did you ever think that whom Ghost Katherine meant was Leila?"

"What?! Why would you say that?"

He shrugged, acting as if it was very obvious.

"She is the only woman who's just come into your life."

I stood up then, scoffing as I went to the glass wall. People looked like ants on the ground, busy with their everyday lives, heading to different destinations. Passing one another, but never really getting to know whom that person was.

"Earth to Adam."

Recollecting my mind, I looked at him, to see that the smile hadn't faded.

"It's not her, okay? There's no one."

"How can you be so sure of that? You aren't Ghost Katherine."

The conversation was beginning to frustrated me now. All this talk about ghosts and 'the one God has for me' didn't sound right in my head. No one was meant for me. The one who was is dead.

"Look, that was a dream, okay?! No matter how unsettling and how real it felt, it was nothing but a dream. It didn't mean anything!"

My voice had taken a sharper edge than usual, which made James raise his hands up in surrender. Glad that he'd gotten the message, we went back to work, but I couldn't help but think about what he'd said.

*******

The alarm beeped, making a loud obnoxious noise that made me want to smash my phone on the floor. I turned it off and began to get ready. Today, I was going to do something I hadn't done in years. My stomach was upset due to the nervousness I felt, and I began to have second thoughts about doing this.

Just do it. Don't back down now.

When I was ready to head out, I realised that I'd forgotten something. I went to the bookshelf in my room, and began to look around at the dusty pile. When I came across what I was looking for, I took it out and removed the dust.

Holy Bible, the front cover read.

I held it in my hands and made my way downstairs for breakfast. Emilia was eating her breakfast, already in her church wear for the day, a royal blue dress with black 5cm heels. She looked so adorable and well put up, I couldn't help but kiss her little head.

"Good morning, pumpkin."

"Good morning, Daddy. What's that you're holding in your hand?"

I smiled as I sat down for food.

"It's a Bible, sweetie."

She smiled then, realizing that I was going to church with them.

"Aunt Lei!! Dad's coming to church with us today!!"

I saw that her gaze was pinned on someone behind me, so I looked to see Ms Rollins, wearing the same royal blue dress that Emilia wore, but her heels were longer, giving her this beautiful feminine aura I'd never seen before. She looked beautiful, well, more than usual.

Her eyes were slightly wide, obviously shocked with the idea of me going to church with them today.

"You're coming with us to church today?"

I smiled then, and nodded in the affirmative, then went back to my meal. We ate in silence, but I could feel Ms Rollins' gaze on me every now and again. I didn't mind though. I would be looking at myself in shock two weeks ago if someone had told me that I was going to go to church.

After the meal, we got into the Audi R8 and headed to church. The closer we got to the building, the more nervous I felt. My palms were sweaty which made me grasp the wheel tighter. My knuckles were still white when we got there. The moment Emilia saw her friends, she said her goodbyes and rushed to them.

"Thank you for the ride, Mr Carter. I hope that you get a good experience out of today's service."

I looked at her, and smiled, appreciative of her presence at such a time like this. When she opened the door, I was suddenly hit with this huge amount of anxiety that I quickly held onto her hand, momentarily stopping her from leaving the car. The warmth that radiated from her hand reduced my anxiety, and I honestly didn't want to let go at that time.

"Um....... Ms Rollins, if you don't mind......."

She just sat there, looking at my hand on hers, and I quickly let go, feeling embarrassed for having had initiated such an intimate contact with her. I cleared my throat, bringing back the confidence I needed at the time.

"Could you accompany me today? I feel.........quite out of my element right now."

She was quiet for a little while, but then she nodded and said that we could go in together. I thanked her, and we began to walk side by side in silence. Just as we were about to get in, I heard a voice that I hadn't heard in so long, I just couldn't help but smile.

"Well, it if isn't Adam Carter himself."

She walked towards us and have me a hug. I hugged her back.

"Jane! When did you come back from Italy?"

She smiled then, showing off her pearly whites.

"Just last week. I had thought of giving you a surprise at your office, but I guess this is good too."

Ms Rollins and Jane greeted each other and then Ms Rollins turned to me.

"I see that you have someone to get in with now. I just saw my friends-"

My hand was suddenly pulled, and I turned to see Jane tugging me to go with her. I stopped her then, and turned to look for Ms Rollins to see that she was already gone.

"Well, come on. The service is about to start."
