❝ you two have been making eyes at each other since before we even hit puberty ❞

Sabrina understood that the object that Dowling gave to her only kept her powers from going out of control and it was supposed to keep her from picking up anyone's dreams while she was asleep. Unfortunately, her powers seemed to be too strong to be contained completely.

The nightmare that she had the previous night was clearly related to Bloom but when she woke up, her bedroom was not filled with fire and everything was perfectly normal.

So, either Dowling's invention didn't work as well as the Headmistress thought it did or she and Bloom shared a subconscious which was a crazy and almost impossible theory.

Sabrina leaned against her headboard and looked away from Tecna's sleeping figure to look at the small glass box on her nightstand. It was filled with a bubble of darkness that was floating around it. It wasn't big but she guessed that it was going to grow as she experienced more nightmares.

She was torn out of her thoughts when the body next to her shifted. Her eyes fell down onto Beatrix who was slowly waking up.

"Morning." Sabrina offered her a small smile, her features softening a little when Beatrix's eyes fluttered open.

It was endearing to see her in such a vulnerable state. She might have known her for less than two days but it wasn't hard to realize that she put up a bitchy front and hid her emotions easily. ❪ That was something they had in common. ❫ Seeing her let her guard down was not something many people got to see.

Beatrix hummed and yawned before muttering, "Mornin'."

Sabrina leaned down to try and kiss her, only to have her put a finger on her lips in order to stop her.

"Morning breath." Beatrix deadpanned with a small pout on her lips.

The Jackson girl rolled her eyes, an involuntary chuckle escaping her lips. She removed the blanket from her body and got to her feet. Beatrix watched her make her way to the bathroom in nothing but an oversized shirt and smirked to herself.

The air fairy definitely didn't expect to have this much fun while taking advantage of Dowling's favorite student.

-

By the time Sabrina walked back into her bedroom, Beatrix was gone, Tecna was awake and Stella was going through her closet.

"So . . ." Rain trailed off with a knowing look on her face, "Beatrix stayed over last night. And you didn't mess around, you literally just fell asleep. I thought you guys were just hooking up."

Sabrina sighed and sat down on the chair beside her desk. "I have no idea, to be honest. We hooked up and then we spent the entire day together."

Stella got her head out of the closet to raise an eyebrow, "So you two are like together now?"

"I guess . . ." Sabrina grimaced at the thought of even being in a relationship. She was not ready for that kind of commitment. "I don't know. She's a good shag and she's hot. But I don't think she does the whole 'girlfriend' thing. She doesn't seem like the type anyway."

Stella seemed surprisingly relieved. "It's obvious that you are only with her so you could shag in every free corner of the school you can find." She stated bluntly and confidently. The blonde was always quick to make assumptions and was often right. This was just one of those moments. "She seems like the person who will just break your heart and move on."

Tecna nodded, "Yeah, you should find someone better and move on. Someone you really love."

"Yeah, like who?" Sabrina raised an unimpressed eyebrow.

"Riven."

Sabrina practically choked on air when Stella and Tecna answered her in perfect synch. "Excuse me?"

The Princess rolled her eyes at the shock on her face, completely unamused at the fact that she was trying to play dumb. "Oh, please. You two have been making eyes at each other since before we even hit puberty. He likes you and you like him."

"And you can't tell me you never saw him that way." Tecna chimed in before her best friend could get a chance to defend herself. "You know how much I hate liars."

Sabrina's mouth was wide open in disbelief. She blinked dumbly while looking between the two fairies. A small number of people managed to get her speechless and it only seemed to happen when they would mention her relationship with Riven.

The two of them have always insisted that they hated each other. But behind closed doors, when there were only two of them around, they were practically best friends. ❪ Well, best friends with a little too much sexual tension but best friends nonetheless. ❫

"We might have gotten a little . . . too close at one of the parties back in June." Sabrina finally admitted, her shoulders dropping in defeat. She looked down in an attempt to avoid the shocked looks she received from the two girls. "We just never talked about it. And only Brandon knows."

"I can't believe you never told us!"

"You told Brandon and you didn't tell us?"

Tecna and Stella said simultaneously, both equally offended.

"I didn't want to make it a big deal." Sabrina was quick to defend herself, "It's not like we're a couple anyway. What happened between us was a one-time thing. And I don't want to talk about it."

Tecna gave her a skeptical look, "Are you sure that he knows that it was a one-time thing? Because Riven always looks absolutely smitten when you are around. He might end up getting hurt. Especially when he sees you with Beatrix."

"Everyone keeps giving me all of this relationship advice and none of you stop to think that maybe I don't want a serious relationship right now." Sabrina snapped, "My powers are going crazy, I keep having weird dreams that are barely even nightmares and I just want all of that to sto ── " She was cut off by her own his and her eyes closed on instinct as a bright light flashed before her eyes.

The sound of a baby crying filled her ears before an older woman appeared. She was blurry but she could still see most of her face. The woman had a warm smile on her face. Her voice came out as a whisper, "𝘞𝘩𝘦𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘵𝘪𝘮𝘦 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘴 𝘧𝘪𝘯𝘥 𝘮𝘦."

"Sabrina! Sabrina!"

Her eyes snapped open and immediately connected with Rain's panicked ones.

"What the fuck was that?" the Peeks girl blurted out, "Your eyes turned white and you looked like you weren't even here."

Sabrina, still breathing heavily, shook her head, "I have no idea."

-

Sabrina was still shocked about what happened but decided to still attend all of her classes. She could at least 𝘱𝘳𝘦𝘵𝘦𝘯𝘥 that everything was normal. She didn't want to bother Dowling about what was happening in her head while their entire world was in danger.

Brandon was doing a great job at distracting her. He was telling her all about what happened between him and Stella. Apparently, she begged him to not say anything to Sky because they were officially back together and Brandon was completely heartbroken. He and Sky went back to being friends though so at least there was something good happening to her cousin.

"So get off of me you massive pedo!" Beatrix's voice rang through the cafeteria and made Sabrina look away from Brandon to see the first-year storm away from Dowling's secretary and towards them.

Beatrix linked their hands together, making Sabrina's eyebrows shoot up in surprise while the girl flashed her a grin.

"You're Beatrix, right?" Brandon asked with a confused but warm smile on his face, "I'm Brandon."

"Oh." Beatrix chuckled in amusement, "You're the cousin and the third member of the confusing love triangle that your friend group has going on."

Brandon's eyebrows raised at her bluntness and he looked at his cousin, who just shrugged in response. He cleared his throat, "Something like that." His eyes flickered between the two fairies, "Will I see you two at the party tonight?"

"Party?" Beatrix repeated, "What party?"

"It's the Senior Specialist party. It's a huge mess and also kind of the best party of the year." Sabrina chuckled at the memory of what happened last year at that same party. Riven managed to get Stella to drink which led to her getting crazy drunk. Brandon ended up carrying her to her dorm and stayed with her while the rest of them ended up swimming in the lake to sober up.

"Count me in then," Beatrix smirked at her and unlinked their hands to take a step back. "I'll see you there."

Sabrina looked away from her retreating figure to see that Brandon was giving her a knowing look that reminded her a lot of his dad.

"What?" she snapped in annoyance.

Brandon shook her head, "Be careful with that one. She is going to get you into a lot of trouble."

"So everyone keeps telling me." Sabrina sighed, "I'll see you later. I'm joining the girls for lunch today."

"See you." he nodded and she turned on her heel to make her way toward the table that Tecna, Bloom and Musa were already sitting at.

Bloom's voice filled her ears the second she got close to the table, "My parents think that Alfea is in Switzerland, so they Skype me at nine a.m. Switzerland time every morning which ── "

"Is two a.m. our time?" Sabrina cut her off and sat down in the empty seat next to Musa and opposite of the redhead, "Yes, we can all hear you. Every night."

She understood why Bloom didn't want to tell her parents about her powers. The second Sabrina's mom found out what she could do with her powers, she packed her bags and left.

"Am I being loud?" Bloom's eyes widened, "I'm trying to be quiet."

"Like an old lady unwrapping sweets in the cinema." Musa deadpanned, causing Sabrina to let out a quiet snort. "But I'm doing fine at school, and so is Terra."

Her eyes glowed a light shade of purple and looked at someone over Sabrina's shoulder. A small involuntary smile soon tugged on her lips.

"Where'd you go?" Bloom asked her with a knowing smile, "Is it my turn to broadcast your emotions?"

"They're still developing, plus there are complications so do me a favor; don't broadcast them in front of Ter ── " The mind-fairy was cut off by Terra arriving at their table which caused her eyes to widen.

"I have a question." Terra spoke up the second she sat down, completely oblivious to their conversation, "Since when was it cool to be a nerd? I mean, don't get me wrong. It's great. Amazing. Power to the nerds. But, like, now it's cool to talk about fairy history?"

"What?" Tecna asked in confusion.

Terra swallowed before explaining, "Well, like, you know, I . . . I like school. I like getting good grades and reading alone with a cup of chamomile, but no one holds hands with me after I call a staff member a pedophile."

Sabrina blinked at how specific that statement was.

"We're gonna need so much more context." Musa chuckled.

"Beatrix." Terra stated, "I don't get what the difference is between her and me. Why's it working for her?"

Musa got to her feet the second the words were out of her mouth, "Uh, actually, I have to go. Sorry."

Terra rolled her eyes when she left, "It's okay. I know why, really. It's 'cause she drinks and smokes and looks like her, and I'm . . ."

"You're beautiful, okay?" Tecna cut her off, "You don't have to think less of yourself just because some people prefer mean girls over nice and kind girls. You not being like Beatrix is not a bad thing."

The brunette's features softened and she gave her a short nod while looking down at the table. She cleared her throat and quickly changed the subject, "Sorry. Sorry. How are you guys?" She looked at Bloom. "How is the search for the memory lady?"

"Memory lady?" Sabrina asked with furrowed eyebrows, her mind instantly flashing back to the vision that she had that morning.

"It's a long story." Bloom brushed her off, clearly not wanting to talk about it too much so Sabrina chose to drop the subject for now. The redhead looked back at Terra to answer her question, "Stalling. Does your dad happen to have any old yearbooks?"

"Oh, maybe. I think I'll have to get them myself, though. Because he's busy with Silva. I don't wanna bother him." Terra said with a small frown on her face.

Bloom mirrored her frown and asked, "How is Silva?"

"I don't know. Dad's been quite down, so I think maybe not good."

"I can't imagine how hard that must be for Sky. I know they're close." Bloom commented and looked down. Her head jerked up so she could look at Sabrina. "How is he? I haven't really seen him around and I know that you two are close."

"He is a mess." Sabrina admitted, seeing no point in sugarcoating it. "Brandon has been taking it hard too but no one is as close to Silva as Sky is." She hesitated before adding, "I didn't want to bring this up but I feel Iike I have to. I know that Sky is a good guy and all but I don't think that you want to go there." Tecna kicked her under the table but her silent warning was ignored. "He and Stella have been on and off forever . . ."

"No," Bloom let out a nervous chuckle, "I'm . . .  I'm just . . . I'm worried about him, Sabrina."

Sabrina hzmmed, "Whatever you say."

-

Stella practically begged Sabrina if they could get ready in Sky and Riven's room before the party. Apparently, she wanted peace and quiet and she didn't think that she could get that if they were in a room with a bunch of freshmen who were getting ready for their "first real party". Tecna insisted she stayed, though, and Sky was god knows where so the two fairies were stuck with Riven.

He was pouring some vodka into a flask while they were doing their makeup.

"Hey, Sky." Sabrina greeted when the blond walked into his room and then went back to applying her mascara.

"Sorry." Stella apologized with a sheepish smile on her face, "Four first years getting ready for their first party is a nightmare inside a nightmare."

"Fun fact. If everyone around you is a nightmare, it's not them." Riven deadpanned. "Life is a walking nightmare for Sabrina and you don't see her complaining about everything and everyone around her."

"It's called quiet suffering, Riv." the dark-haired fairy shot back, "You should try it sometimes. I heard it makes people less annoying."

Stella gave him a sarcastic smile and stayed quiet while he rolled his eyes.

"You're already drinking?" Sky asked his best friend.

He shrugged, "Yeah, well, they have been here for an hour, so I've been drinking for an hour."

"Could you take it easy this year? All three of you. Especially you Stella." Sky asked, making Sabrina let out an involuntary chuckle. "Last year, you vomited in no less than five places and Stella still can't even look at a bottle of vodka without looking like she wants to throw up."

"Well, the benchmark's been set." Riven grinned and gave Sabrina a subtle wink.

She rolled her eyes and said, "At least pour us one. Some pregaming never hurt anyone." She paused and added, "Well, except Stella."

"I'm not drinking." Sky said, making both Sabrina and Riven look at him in surprise.

Stella turned to smile at her boyfriend and say, "Look, I spoke to Kat. Marco is on the Burned One. As in badass Marco. The strongest fairy in a decade."

"I don't care who they have on it, Stella." Sky snapped, the coldness in his voice surprising all three of them, "I'm still not drinking."

Sabrina shared a knowing look with Riven and reluctantly went back to applying her makeup. She hoped that last night would at least help them let loose a little.
