Sabrina was going to murder Stella.
She loved her best friend, she really did. It was impossible to be friends for someone that long and not love them. Last night she walked into her dorm after she parted ways with Riven and found Brandon sitting on their couch, claiming that Tecna let him crash there. The reason that he was not sleeping in his own room was that Sky was there . . . with Stella.
And Sabrina knew that Stella did not really owe him anything. They had a one-night stand and barely spoke after that which was the bitchy part. But then again, she would be a hypocrite to call her out on it after ghosting Riven after they did the same thing that Stella and Brandon did.
But Stella must have known that Brandon had feelings for her, right? Anyone with eyes could see that.
She had more than one reason to be cranky on the first day of class. One, Brandon and Stella. Two, Riven was being completely casual last night. And three, the fact that this was her first day being the teacher's assistant and she did not get one minute of sleep.
When she got to their common room, she immediately wished she never came out of the room that she and Tecna shared. Brandon was clearly on his way out when he bumped into Stella who was walking in. She was wearing the same clothes that she wore to the party last night and was holding her heels in her hand. Brandon clenched his jaw and opened his mouth to say something but ended up just sighing and shaking his head before he stormed out of the room.
Musa and Sabrina shared a look and then the former turned to raise an eyebrow at Stella, "Oh, that outfit is so similar to yesterday's. Same designer?"
"Do you know how I feel about that joke, or shall I tell you?" Stella asked, giving the empath a cold glare. "Where's Bloom?"
And there was reason number four. While she was out smoking with Riven, Stella gave Bloom her ring and told her that she should go outside the barrier to visit her parents. Which, of course, almost got her killed.
"Well, she had a rough night." Musa shrugged, "Thanks to you."
Stella must have sensed the glare Sabrina was sending her because she looked at her and deadpanned, "Don't judge me."
There was a sigh heard from the bathroom doorway before Tecna said, "No one is judging you, Stella."
"Wrong." Sabrina said solemnly, "I am. For more than one reason." She looked between Tecna and Musa and asked, "What exactly happened last night, anyway? You saw a Burned One, right?"
Musa nodded, "Yup. I didn't think those things were real, but we all saw them. It was creepy as hell. It looked like she wanted to kill her."
Sabrina has only ever dreamed about Burned Ones. She heard many stories and the fact that one of them killed her father only made her fear the creatures more. The main reason she almost burned her dorm to the ground last year was that she had a nightmare that included a Burned One.
Stella did not seem to care and simply huffed in annoyance. "What about my ring?"
"That burned ── " Bloom started as she stumbled out of her room, "burned thing took it."
"What?!"
"Calm down, Princess." Musa chimed in, never taking her glare off the blonde.
"Don't tell me to calm down and don't use my title as an insult." Stella exclaimed harshly.
Bloom's eyes widened, "Wait, are you actually a princess?"
"Yes, I am, actually. My mom is the queen and the ring you lost is one of the crown jewels of Solaria." Stella explained, "That might not mean much to a First Worlder so feel free to ask your suite-mate how big of a screw-up that is."
Tecna shook her head in disappointment, "You are the one that gave her the ring in the first place. I know that that ring is important to you but Bloom's life should be more important."
"You are lucky that your title is the reason that you aren't facing any consequences." Sabrina added, "One day, you are just going to run out of excuses."
"Dowling has the creature locked up." Aisha said when she walked into the room, her eyes glued on Stella, "Which you would know if you were here last night when she gave us an earful."
"And if people knew that there was a Burned One even in the First World temporarily;" Musa said, her eyes falling on Bloom, "disaster."
"I didn't tell her that I lost the ring and I'm sure if we do, then ── "
"We will do no such thing." Stella cut the redhead off, "I will figure it out after class but for now no one says anything to anyone." She started walking towards the room but stopped to say, "And can someone make sure that Terra knows that? She can never keep her mouth shut."
She opened her room to see Terra standing in the middle of it with a sheepish smile on her face. "Got it."

"Magic lives in the very fabric of nature. and here in our circle of stones, it's magnified. The Vessel tests your ability to channel that magic. Later, you may learn to connect with other elements, but your first year is all about the element you were born with. Earth; soil, sand, Rockland, all manner of plant life. Water; the lakes and oceans of the world or the molecules that exist in all organisms around us. The mind; thoughts, memories, dreams. Air; speed, temperature, sound, its power and electrical properties. Whatever your element, the emotion underlying it is the same for all fairies." Dowling explained to the freshman surrounding her and Sabrina. It was the same exact speech that she told them last year so Sabrina could only guess it was tradition.
Being Dowling's teaching assistant was not permanent. She did it every Monday and Wednesday but still went to class. Second years only had a more flexible schedule than first years did so it was easy.
"Do any of the earth fairies want to go first?" Sabrina questioned the group and was presently surprised when Terra nervously raised her hand.
The dark-haired girl gave her a nod and watched her approach the Vessel. Terra set her hands above it and took a deep breath before a plant started growing out of it in a matter of seconds.
"Very good." Dowling praised and in the next ten minutes, all present earth fairies presented their powers too.
The water fairies were next. Then the mind fairies, the air fairies and all the others that did not fall under any category. Sabrina noted the fact that Bloom was the last one and watched her stand up and make her way to the Vessel.
Bloom put her hands on either side of it and let out a sigh.
Nothing happened yet so Dowling spoke up, "Open yourself up to the magic of the world around you. Push past your doubts."
There were sparkles of fire going out of the Vessel and Bloom's eyes started flickering from blue to red a couple of times. 𝘏𝘶𝘩. Sabrina thought with narrowed eyes. It never occurred to her that Bloom was a fire fairy. But then again, the hair explained a lot.
A small flame appeared but it went out just as quickly.
"Focus on the clear, positive feelings."
Other fairies around them started whispering which was obviously not helping so Aisha spoke up and suggested, "How about your parents? Focus on how much you love them?"
That did not seem to help at all. Hell, it looked like it only made her angrier.
"It's not working." Bloom eventually snapped.
"Stop thinking." Dowling said, "Magic comes from ── "
"Emotions. I've been listening. I know what I'm supposed to do. It's not happening. Can you please move on?" the redhead pleaded, looking between Sabrina and the Headmistress.
Bloom was not the only person that struggled with her powers. But she was the only person that Sabrina saw that struggled to actually start using them.
Even she learned that she could suck other people's fears out of them and form those fears into a shadow with a simple thought before she came to Alfea. She just didn't know how to stop herself from doing it when she was asleep.
-
Sabrina did not have a class until after lunch so while everyone else was in class, she was walking along the school grounds. She was walking past the spot where the specialists were training when someone put their hand around the crook of her elbow.
Her eyebrows raised in surprise and she looked to her right to see a shorter girl with reddish hair and a smirk on her face. She never saw her before except this morning during the first class for first years. So the only thing she knew was that she was an air fairy and a freshman.
"Um . . . " her eyebrows furrowed when she didn't say anything, "Hi?"
"You're Sabrina, right?" the girl asked, "The teacher's pet."
Sabrina scoffed, "I'm not the teacher's pet. Can I help you with something?"
"You can." she grinned and tugged her towards the gardens where no one could see them. "I have seen you around. Sneaking across the barrier, drinking and smoking after hours on school grounds. You and your little guy friend seem like proper delinquents but you seem to be Dowling's favorite."
"Your point?" the Jackson asked impatiently.
"I want to break into Dowling's office. I thought you could help."
A surprised laugh escaped Sabrina's lips and she gave her a look of disbelief, "Are you serious? Why would I do that? And what makes you think that I won't go and tell Dowling right now?"
"Because you're into girls and I'm hot?" the freshman blurted out in a deadpan tone, recalling seeing Sabrina flirting with one of the female specialists at the party last night. "Well . . . maybe I'm wrong and you're just queerbaiting."
Sabrina was actually offended by that. "I'm not queerbaiting but that also doesn't mean I want to get with every hot girl I see. If I help you I have to get something out of it." She held her finger up before she could cut her off. "And no, I don't condone prostitution."
"You'll just have to find out what you'll get, won't you?" she batted her eyes and gave her a knowing look.
Okay, so Sabrina was lying when she said that she didn't want to get with every hot girl she sees. But this girl genuinely seemed interesting. So, what did she have to lose?
"Fine." she sighed in defeat and asked, "What's your name, anyway?"
The fairy was wearing a proud smirk when she responded. "Beatrix."
-
When Beatrix said that she wanted to break into Dowling's office, Sabrina didn't realize she meant 𝘯𝘰𝘸, during lunch. But then she realized that it was probably easier that way because Dowling and her assistant were always far away from her office during lunch.
"Dowling will be back in around thirty minutes and her assistant Callum will be here in fifteen minutes." Sabrina explained as she leaned against Dowling's desk.
Beatrix offered her a smirk, "Now you see why I came to you. Teacher's pet 𝘢𝘯𝘥 a proper delinquent."
Sabrina sighed, "Fair enough." She stood back up and started going through the drawers in the desk in hopes of finding some things that Dowling took away last year. She was pleasantly surprised to see her pretty light grey flask and Riven's old vape. 𝘉𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘰. The fact that the flask was still full was only a bonus. She smirked and opened it to take a long sip out of it.
"What are you even looking for?" she asked her, "Test answers?"
Beatrix scoffed and kept looking around, "Please. The tests they give now might as well be written in crayon. I'm looking for the shit they don't teach. The secrets. The history of this place is a lot darker than Dowling and the rest of the faculty want us to know. I want that truth. Don't you?"
Sabrina furrowed her eyebrows and watched electricity appear under her hands as she ran them along a bookcase. "You know that our school library contains around five hundred books? I think that you can find plenty of stuff that they don't teach us there. As for the secrets . . . I can't tell you much about that other than the fact that grand grand grand grandpa Jackson founded it along with some other pretty important people. A bunch of Hogwarts-type bullshit, if you ask me. But, if you want to know all that dark shit that happened in the school after it opened, including why we stopped having wings, I could tell you but it's a long story."
Beatrix gave her a curious look while stepping closer to her, "You are a lot smarter than you look aren't you?"
Sabrina took a step back and accidentally hit the table which caused her to sit on it again. She tilted her head and raised an eyebrow. "Are you telling me that I look dumb?"
She hummed and took another step forward so her thighs were touching her knees. "Well, it's nice to know that there is more to you than meets the eye."
The dark-haired girl bit her lip and watched the way Beatrix's eyes followed her movements.
"You said we had fifteen minutes, right?" Beatrix whispered with a small smirk and brought their faces close together. Sabrina hummed which caused her smirk to grow. "Let's make the most of it then."
Their lips smashed together into a rough and needy kiss. There was not a single gentle thing about it nor was there any emotion other than lust involved. And Sabrina was not usually the person to have meaningless sex but there was something about Beatrix that was so entrancing.
Her fingers tangled into her dark hair and made her part her legs so they could stand closer to each other. Soon enough, Beatrix's lipstick-stained lips soon found her neck as Sabrina tugged her jacket off.
She just hoped that Beatrix locked the doors because there was no way that they were stopping now.
-
While Sabrina was busy running around the school with Beatrix, Tecna and the rest of her roommates were getting themselves into trouble while trying to get Stella's ring back from the Burned One. If Sabrina was there, she would have probably told them that that was a terrible idea.
Thankfully, Silva was the only one that got hurt but her roommates were okay because they have successfully killed the Burned One.
Sky and Brandon were taking the news hard due to the fact that Silva was the second father to both of them. Fortunately, that was the thing that brought them together and made Brandon finally stop avoiding him.
"Are you sure that you are okay?" Sabrina asked Tecna hesitantly from her bed on the other side of the room.
"No." she admitted, "I had a shitty day and I just want to go to bed. We can talk tomorrow."
Although hesitant, the Jackson nodded, "Okay. Goodnight."
"Night."
That night, Sabrina actually did fall asleep. But when she did, she was in that room full of fire once again. Her head was spinning and her vision was blurry. There was one thing that made this dream different from all the other ones from last summer. This time, there was someone else in the room. And she was screaming.
"𝘔𝘰𝘮!"
a/n: beatrix is just a side love interest because riven and sabrina are a bit of a slowburn
