i. i know what you did last summer

to the waters and the wild;
❛ BRINGER OF DEATH ❜ ↷ fate
❝ you are the most intimidating girl in our year ❞

▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬

Sabrina Jackson never really saw herself as a fairy.

And when she did, she sure as hell knew she was not anything like Stella or Tecna or Roxy or any of her other classmates. Fairies were supposed to bring life to the world, and create positive energy and light magic. But Sabrina and her powers did the exact opposite.

She was a literal walking nightmare. While she wasn't exactly sure how her powers worked, she knew they could pick up fear of any person standing close enough which would lead to her hands starting to tingle and black fog would start leaving her fingertips in a very not fairy-like manner.

When Sabrina was awake, she could control it enough that she could attend classes like a normal person and go to social gatherings like parties or go out in public. When she fell asleep, however, her powers would go insane and she would begin to absorb the darkest thoughts and fears of whoever was closest to her.

Back in school, however, she had it easy. Her roommate Tecna's only actual fear was small spaces but other than that, the girl was as calm, collected and as pessimistic as they come.

Her lack of sleep during this summer gave her the chance to catch up on her summer homework and all of the stuff she missed when she was skipping class with Sky, Roxy, or Riven. That also allowed her to still be awake an hour before her cousin and uncle did which led to her sneaking towards her cousin's room at five in the morning to wake him up because he was the laziest person she has ever met.

Sabrina came into his room without even knocking to see him lying on his stomach under his black thin sheets, drool falling down his chin and making her scrunch her nose up in slight disgust but she ignored it and jumped down on the bed next to him.

The impact her body caused made Brandon jump in surprise and fall from the back, landing on his ass.

"Fuck you, Sabrina!" he exclaimed, his voice loud enough that it probably woke up his dad but Sabrina didn't mind and simply rolled her eyes at his dramatics.

To say she had a good relationship with her cousin and uncle would be an understatement. She has lived with them since she was seven and Brandon seemed more than happy about it because he said he always wanted a sister or at least a sibling and now when they were in high school, they were pretty much siblings.

"You need to get your ass out of bed and finish packing." she told him, taking note of the clothes scattered around the big room and the pretty much empty suitcase laying next to his messy closet.

Brandon gave her an annoyed look as he got to his feet and slowly walked to the small bathroom in his room, closing the door behind him and saying, "You're literally the only one excited to go back to school. Some of us prefer summer break."

Sabrina rolled her eyes once again, getting up and starting to fold some of Brandon's clothes, "Because, unlike some people, I didn't fuck my best friend's ex-girlfriend after they have been broken up for barely a week."

In response, Brandon chose to shut up and in those silent few minutes, Sabrina started folding some of his shirts and placing them on top of each other on the bed.

The silence was broken when the brunette boy exited the bathroom, now wearing a pair of jeans and a plain white shirt instead of a pair of sweats. He flopped down onto the chair next to his desk and frowned, eying the picture Roxy took of him, Sabrina, Stella, Sky and Riven at one of the parties Riven and Sky threw after they were done with finals last year.

During his entire life, it was always the five of them.

Sabrina followed his gaze and her face softened slightly, "She didn't call, did she?"

"Did he?" Brandon shot back almost in an instant and the fairy bit the inside of her cheek, hesitating before admitting.

"Almost every day." she sighed, resting her chin in her hand and avoiding her cousin's gaze, "I'm the one that's been avoiding him."

Brandon huffed and looked away from the polaroid picture and towards her, "You'll figure it out. Somehow the two of you always do."

"Yeah," Sabrina couldn't help but scoff, "That was before we got high together, hooked up, and then I ran off the second I woke up."

Raising an eyebrow, Brandon asked, "You mean woke up without any nightmares?"

"Yeah, because I was hungover and high." Sabrina deadpanned and got to her feet. She made her way to the door and then stopped to look over her shoulder at him, "Now go finish packing, I'm gonna go take a shower and we can grab coffee on the way."

-

"Okay, kids." Aleksander Jackson crossed his hands in front of his chest while leaning on the hood of his grey truck and giving Sabrina and Brandon fake stern looks, "Don't get into any trouble. Don't skip classes too much and don't do drugs or drink alcohol when it's a school night."

Brandon snorted at his father's words while Sabrina rolled her eyes with a small smile and said, "We promise, Aleks."

"She does." Brandon joked with a grin and messed up her black wavy hair, "I can't promise anything."

Aleksander chuckled and pulled both of them into a hug at the same time. The familiarity and warmth of the embrace made Sabrina relax and not even hesitate to hug him back.

The two of them made her feel more at home than her own mother ever did and she doesn't think she was ever happier about a person giving her up in her entire life.

When they pulled away, Brandon looked over his dad's shoulder and his eyes widened briefly before he reached for his suitcase, "I'm gonna go. Brina, I'll see you inside. Love you, dad."

He did not say anything else and practically stormed off and it was only when Sabrina looked at the schoolyard, did she notice Sky standing in the middle of it, talking to an unfamiliar redhead that made her narrow her eyes.

Just what she needed. Another new girl was going to make Stella go whole crazy ex-girlfriend again.

She sighed and gave her uncle a soft smile, "Love you, Uncle A. I'll see you on winter break."

"Love you too, kid." Aleksander beamed back at her and she gave him another smile before turning on her heel and making her way inside.

Or more specifically, towards Sky and the freshman that he was creeping on.

"I am a fairy." Sabrina heard the redhead girl state with a grin and she quickly chimed in with an unimpressed voice.

"Are you finished with creeping on the freshman or are you gonna walk me to the headmistress' office before I'm late?"

Sky's grin immediately turned from flirty and smug to happy and he didn't hesitate to scoop the girl into a bone-crushing hug that knocked all oxygen out of her. She considered Sky one of her closest friends ever since Brandon introduced them when they were kids. Her uncle has also been working for his dad (also formerly known as the King) which made her unable to avoid him but she wasn't that mad about it.

"I haven't heard from you in weeks." he stated once they pulled away, "Where have you been? What the hell did you do to your hair?"

Her hair was a light shade of brown back in June. Now, it was black after she and Brandon were bored and she decided she needed a change. That led to them having to clean the bathroom for hours after her hair was dyed.

"I have been hanging out with Tecna and Stella most of the summer so I've been busy." She lied easily, not wanting to reveal the fact that she has been hiding at home with Brandon the entire summer break. She gave him a short shrug and then turned to the redhead next to him and narrowed her eyes at her with a fake smile, "And you are?"

"Bloom." The girl grinned back at her, although her smile seemed far more genuine but also a lot more awkward. And honestly? It made Sabrina feel just a little bit bad that she was acting like a bitch but she didn't want another Roxy to be walking around the school and getting too close to their friend group.

"You're a fairy right?" She raised an eyebrow, "From what realm?"

Bloom squinted for a second and then blurted out, "California?"

Sky's eyebrows shoot up in surprise, "Oh, you're not from the Otherworld?"

"I'm not." Bloom admitted, her face falling as she looked down at her shoes, "If you want your mind blown; three months ago, I didn't even know the Otherworld existed."

Sabrina's lips tugged into a small smirk, "You're luckier than others then, Red."

"Um," Sky started awkwardly, ignoring the painfully obvious unimpressed look his best friend was sending him, "If you are lost, which I'm not saying you are, and you need help, which I'm not saying I'm offering," Sabrina openly rolled her eyes which went ignored by both of them. "this is the Specialist Hall."

Sabrina cuts him off by pointing towards the building behind the redhead, "And those are the Fairy dorms and practically where all the classes are. So if you need any more help you can ask whoever your tour guide is."

"Right." Bloom's eyes briefly widened at her tone but she quickly recovered and nodded, "Oh, the Specialist Hall. Obviously." she let out a nervous giggle, "I definitely knew that."

"I'd be happy to ── "

"Mansplain it?" Bloom cut the blond off, raising an eyebrow, looking a mix of amused and unimpressed.

"No."

Bloom didn't seem too convinced but nodded anyway, "Sure. Kinda seems like your thing."

"Well now that we officially came to the conclusion that Sky is Alfea's resident man-whore . . . " she turned to Sky with an annoyed look on her face, "can we go now?"

"Quit perving on the first years." an all too familiar male voice made Sabrina freeze and she squeezed her eyes shut momentarily, not wanting to turn around. There goes another reason she wanted to get off this freshman-filled yard. A hand was thrown over her shoulder before she could even react and Riven's next words were directed solemnly towards her, "And you, Nightmare, could you stop scaring her on the first day? We get it, you are the most intimidating girl in our year which also kind of matches your nickname but that doesn't mean you have to act like a witch to the first freshman you see."

Sabrina slapped his hand away almost on instinct and when she looked at him in annoyance, she expected to find him with his usual smug smirk on his face but instead, his eyes were soft and he was sporting a small grin on his face.

Sky, as oblivious as ever, did not seem to catch on to the tension between his two best friends and instead, gave his roommate Riven an annoyed look, "Riv, just give me one second, yeah?"

"Why?" Riven raised an unimpressed eyebrow, finally looking away from Sabrina, "You gonna chase her?"

Apparently, Riven chiming into the conversation was an opportunity for Bloom to sneak off because when Sky looked back at where she was previously standing, she was making her way to the fairy dorms like Sabrina told her to just a few seconds ago.

"Nope." Sky sighed and Riven immediately chuckled, tackling his best friend into a hug.

Sabrina watched the interaction with a small smile. Despite the tension between the boys when they first met when they were friends, the intense rivalry faded the same summer when both Riven's mother and Sky's father passed away and suddenly, the two of them (plus Brandon) became almost inseparable.

"How are you man?" The blond asked when they pulled away, his hand still on Riven's shoulder.

"I'm alright." He shrugged, his eyes momentarily connecting with Sabrina as he questioned, "Where's Brandon?"

The Jackson girl let out a sigh, still annoyed at how her cousin kept avoiding this entire situation and that it was probably going to become a problem soon, "I have no idea. He ran off the second Aleks dropped us off."

Raven raised a knowing eyebrow, a barely there smirk making its way to his lips, "I wonder why."

Sky furrowed his eyebrows, not catching up to the hidden meaning behind Riven's words, "You still need someone to walk you to Miss Dowling's office?"

"You boys can go to your dorm to bond over your summer tans and your new specialist sticks." The familiar voice that belonged to Tecna chimed in and the girl threw her arm around Sabrina's shoulder, "I got her covered."

Sabrina felt a big grin appear on her face when she turned to her best friend slash roommate and she immediately wrapped her hands around her waist to pull her into a hug. Tecna squealed and wrapped her other arm around her neck, "I missed you!"

"I missed you too." Sabrina chuckled and squeezed her tighter with a bright grin on her face.

The two hugged for a couple more moments, only pulling away when Riven spoke in amusement. "Are you gonna start making out now and can we stay for the show?"

"Shut up, Riven." Sabrina rolled her eyes, linking her and Tecna's arms together, "We are gonna go. I'll see you guys at the orientation party."
