22: I'm Not Drunk

Want to Want Me by Jason Derulo cover by Boyce Avenue
Picture of Aurora

The next day was gorgeous: the birds were singing, the sun was out, flowers were blooming, everyone was happy, and Aiden was drunk off his ass.

"I'm not drunk," he slurred, stumbling over his feet and falling to the ground with a whiskey bottle in hand.

"And Ivan is smart," Keenan muttered, hauling his friend off the ground.

"Hey," Ivan argued but Keenan ignored him.

"Get your dirty paws off me you ape," Aiden yelled, swatting his hands at Keenan. He let go and instantly Aiden fell back down.

"What the hell is going on out here," Alice asked, rolling out of her tent and rubbing the sleep from her eyes.

"You should be ashamed of yourself woman," Aiden yelled. Alice simply gave him a once over before shrugging and strutting over to Ivan and landing in his lap. "You ruined this whole trip for me!"

"Really," she asked, raising a perfectly trimmed eye brow. "That's not what you were saying when I was riding your cock."

"Shhhhhh," he hissed, pressing his finger against his cheek... he missed his lips. "Red might hear."

"Red," she asked confused.

"Okay, it's time for you to go back to sleep buddy," Keenan interrupted before Aiden could make the mistake of confessing his love for Luna. Luckily she was still nowhere to be found, as well as Ajax.

"But," he stopped and burped.

Keenan grunted in disgust. Why did he have to be a good friend again? Oh yeah, so he could prove to Aurora that he wasn't a spoiled, rich, stuck up douche, jerk... Whatever she called him the day earlier he was going to prove her wrong.

Keenan hauled his drunk friend to his tent, telling him as he dropped him on the pile of blankets, "You're not in love with her Aiden. Don't confuse envy with love alright? It'll pass." Keenan wasn't sure his friend heard because as soon as his head hit the floor he was out like a hog.

He walked back out into the blinding sun and found Aurora sitting at the card table with Jesse and India. He smirked; this was the perfect chance to prove to Aurora that he wasn't who she saw him as. If it meant winning this game than he would gladly put a smile on for Jesse for a couple minutes.

He was determined to win and already he could see the bond between India and Jesse forming, if them holding hands was anything to go by.

Keenan sauntered up to their table, taking a seat on the cooler next to Aurora and across from Jesse.

"What are you guys playing," he asked, faking interest and watching amused as Jesse looked at him confused and guarded.

"Go fish," India piped up, giving Keenan her friend a warm smile. Keenan at that moment felt a little guilty about not spending enough time with her on this trip, he was after all the one who promised her Dad that he wouldn't let her out of his sight.

"Go fish huh?"

"Before you say a rude comment just know that India came up with the idea," Jesse hissed from across the foldable plastic table. The thing looked like it came out of a home in the fifty's after an atomic bomb exploded in town. Too creepy for Keenan's tastes but it was good enough for camping.

"I wasn't going to say anything. I was the one who taught India how to play this game anyways."

"You were," Aurora and Jesse asked at the same time.

"Yeah, we got off track one time when we were supposed to be studying." India shrugged her shoulders but the smile on her face made Keenan remember just how much fun she had that day with him a couple months back.

"You found the stack of hidden cards in your garage and didn't want your Dad to find it in case he thought you were gambling." Keenan laughed at the memory.

"Oh my goodness, remember how I pleaded for you to teach me a game!"

"Yeah," Keenan nodded his head eagerly, feeling his eyes wet with tears from holding back his laughter. "You totally wanted me to teach you a dirty game that your Dad wouldn't approve of and I tricked you into thinking Go Fish was a dirty game!"

India belted out in laughter and Keenan tried to hide his smile when he saw Jesse clench his jaw. "I was so embarrassed!"

"I felt so bad that I taught you the worst game I knew or well that you thought I knew," he said, crackling with more laughter.

"That I thought you knew," India asked, her eyes bright with humor. "What is that supposed to mean?"

"It means that if I wanted I could have gotten your clothes off with plenty of 'dirty' games but no," he shook his head, "I'm a gentleman."

India scoffed though the humor in her eyes didn't diminish. "Well thanks I guess for being chivalrous."

"No problem Ghandi," he said, cracking up in more laughter when India did the same.

"I told you never to call me that again!"

He shrugged his shoulders. "Sorry it's stuck in my head now. I can't get it out."

"Are we going to keep playing or what," Jesse hissed, clenching his jaw so tight Keenan was actually afraid he would break his teeth.

"We can start over and let you play Keenan if you want," Aurora piped up, making Jesse huff in anger.

"Well seeing as how I know every one of your cards now I think that's a good idea."

She looked at him in surprise and slight anger before smiling.

"Yay," India squealed, stealing everyone's cards to shuffle them up. She gasped once she grabbed Jesse's stack of cards. "Jesse! You told me you didn't have any fives!"

He shrugged one shoulder. "I lied."

She smacked his arm with the large stack. "That deceives the point of the game," she whined. Jesse simply smiled at her and pressed his lips against hers quickly.

India's face flushed bright red while Keenan tried his best not to glare.

"If Jesse wants to lie during Go Fish than I know the perfect card game we can play," Aurora said, taking hold of the deck of cards and shuffling them.

"Bullshit," Keenan answered for her.

She looked at him surprised. "You know it?"

"I'm pretty sure one certain country can't ban others to play a card game."

"That's not what I meant," she rolled her eyes but let out a small chuckle. "Besides I'm pretty sure it's not even Canadian."

"Is that because Canadian's go to hell if they cuss?" Keenan laughed when Aurora smacked him in the chest.

It was a hit but it was something. Keenan knew that girls only playfully smack guys' chests when they're flirting.

"As much I would just love to play a stupid game with you guys Luna just got back and I don't want to get torn to bits by her nails," Jesse grumbled then abruptly stood up and walked back to his tent, leaving India behind and speechless.

Aurora sighed in disappointment. "Sorry India," she said sincerely before getting up as well and retreating into the tent.

Keenan reached out for his friend's hand, angry that Jesse hurt her, even slightly. If he wasn't man enough to defend their relationship –or whatever they had- to Luna than he certainly couldn't do it to her father. Keenan realized it and he was worried if India had realized it as well too. From the look of hurt on her face he would say it was only a matter of time.

"Oh India," Luna squealed, running over to the table and sliding into Jesse's empty chair. "I have something to tell you!"

It didn't take a scientist or for Luna's shirt to be replaced with Ajax's to know what she was going to tell her best friend. Keenan could tell that India really didn't want to hear it but she smiled anyways –although it didn't reach her eyes- and nodded her head.

Keenan left to give the two girls their privacy and to track down his friend.

He found Ajax crawling out of his tent, a different pair of pants and shirt on from last night and a ridiculous grin on his face. Keenan stomped up to him and before Ajax could utter a word Keenan had his hand wrapped around his collar.

"I swear to fucking god Ajax if you played with Luna last night than I'm going to kick your ass," he seethed, his face a few inches from Ajax's. "It will ruin the trip for everyone else!"

"She isn't a part of the game bro," Ajax defended, trying to push Keenan away. "I actually like her."

"You fucking better or it will blow up in all of our faces if she ends up broken hearted again!" Keenan finally let go and shoved his friend away.

"Okay one," Ajax said, smoothing out his shirt, "you obviously need to get laid, you're stressed out. And two: why does what I do with my life suddenly affect everyone else here?"

"Because," Keenan growled, looking around to make sure everyone was far enough away from hearing anything. "If you break Luna's heart than Aiden will kick your ass which-"

"Wait," Ajax interrupted holding up a hand and looking beyond confused. "Why would he care?"

Keenan rolled his eyes. "Because for some damn reason your twin thinks he's in love with Luna. Now shut the hell up and don't interrupt me again." Ajax fumed but Keenan assumed it wasn't because he snapped at him. "Aiden will kick your ass which will make Luna think he actually cares for her and she'll jump back to him but she'll be really confused and drag India into it and India will get upset because her best friend is upset which will make Jesse want to make India happy again and that can only lead to one horrible end for me!"

Ajax took a step back and glared at his brothers tent not far from him. "Don't worry," he seethed, "I'm not like my brother."

Keenan assessed him and once satisfied by his honesty he said, "Good," then walked away.

...

"Wait, wait, wait," India said, holding up both hands and succeeding in making Luna stop talking for the first time in seven minutes. "You're telling me that you," India leaned in and whispered, "had sex with Ajax last night?"

Luna grinned, took her friend by the shoulders and squealed, "Yes! And it was amazing, oh my god India you are really missing out girl! I mean sex is good but when it's with someone that you actually connect with then damn... it's out of this world!"

India leaned back and gently pried her friend's fingers off her shoulders. "Sounds... fun."

But to India it sounded more than fun, it sounded like no combination of the twenty six letters in the alphabet could explain what sex felt like.

Her father had tried sheltering her from the sins of the world, from forbidding TVs in the house, securing almost every site on the internet, anything other than Christian music on the radio, hiding newspapers from her eyes, and letting her only entertainment be studying and reading. But no matter how much he tried he couldn't hide the fact that sex was the key to survival and the most important thing in any society. And even though he didn't know it, a few if not half of India's romance novels contained some sort of graphic scene that educated her on the entertaining part of sex.

Not only the love but the foreplay if she was using the word correctly.

Luna shot up, her eyes brightening with a familiar look that India knew all too well. It was the look Luna got right before she came up with a bad idea. "You should try it."

India began shaking her head automatically, not even really thinking about it. It was a habit when ever Luna had that look in her eyes.

"Oh come on," Luna whined. "When we get home I'll find a nice guy for you and you won't even have to tell him your name! Somebody who doesn't live in town and who has experience."

"Not going to happen Luna," India said, actually thinking through her response this time. That plan just sounded horrible.

"Well listen when I tell you this India Quail," Luna stated seriously. "You haven't lived until you've fucked."

With that her best friend got up from the chair and skipped away, jumping into Ajax's arms.

...
