Win's POV
"Watch where you're going dimwit!" The student motorist yelled at me.
I was running towards the building where my first class for the day was located. I didn't see the car approaching and it swerved just in the nick of time otherwise I would have been a cripple right now.
I made my way up to the third floor of the building. Thankfully the lecturer was not there yet.
I made myself comfortable in a seat at the very back of the classroom.
The buzz of conversation lessened considerably when the teacher, a very pretty lady maybe somewhere in her early thirties stepped into the room. She had a pixie cut with fringes on one side of her face. She had a kind face and a bright smile.
Just as she was about to start her lecture, someone burst into the room without knocking.
Shit it was the motorist whose car had almost hit me.
"You have to have a good excuse for being late on your first day of class otherwise I will take away some points from your score in the upcoming quiz," the lecturer declared, her smile vanishing from her face.
I mean I didn't really like that student motorist but I was wondering why the lecturer seemed to be overly strict with him. It wasn't like he was ten minutes late for her lecture.
The late student muttered a "sorry, ma'am" before looking around for an empty chair.
Oh shit, the only remaining empty chair was the one right beside mine. I lowered my head and pretended to open my notebook as he approached.
"We meet again."
"What?" I jerked my face upwards.
"You have forgotten that I almost crippled you earlier on your way to this building?" he asked with a smirk.
"No," I lied, "I don't remember."
"Suit yourself," he said, before placing his weight heavily on his chair.
I was a bit awed though when this guy answered every single question of the lecturer right. He must have done a lot of advanced studying on the subject.
At the end of the lecture, I turned to him just as he was about to get up from his chair.
"You seem to know a lot about the topic that Miss Daichapanya discussed earlier," I remarked.
"It's because this is my second time in this class. She failed me the last time. Not because I was a dumb student. She became extra strict with me after I tried to hit on her. She told me off and said she wasn't interested in teacher-student relationships," he explained.
So that explained why she was being a bit mean to him earlier for being a few minutes late to her class.
I stood up and extended my hand to him.
"By the way my name is Metawin but I'm called Win for short."
For a second I thought he was going to ignore me. Then he took my hand and said, "Mine is Cap, short for Captain."
"See you on the next class day," I said, starting to walk away. He stood up and followed me out of the classroom.
I looked at the time on my phone. I had a good twenty minutes to spare before my next class. I started walking towards the mini plaza to look for a good breakfast place.
I didn't have time to eat breakfast at my dorm cafeteria earlier. I had run out like crazy towards my classroom building because I did not want to be late on my first day of classes.
I saw a coffee shop a little further ahead. It was a small one that seemed to be very popular among the students because I could see through the glass windows that it was teeming with students and there was a long line of them waiting to give their order to the clerk behind the register counter.
The clerk was a lady who was wearing a pixie cut with side fringes just like my teacher earlier. What was with these pixie cuts I wondered. It suited her face though.
"What are we having this morning, sir?" she asked with a friendly smile. I read the name on her badge before replying. Cindy was her name.
"Hi, Cindy," I said. "I would like a caffe macchiato, easy on the froth, with chocolate sprinkles, please."
"Okay, and would you like anything to eat with your coffee?" Cindy asked.
"Oh, yes please," I replied, "please give me three blueberry scones."
"Very well," said Cindy, "anything else?"
"That's all," I said.
Cindy gave me the total cost of my orders and after I slipped my card into the machine she handed me my receipt with an order number printed on the top.
I thanked her and looked around for an empty table. No such luck. Well, actually there was a table with four seats, three of which were occupied by three students who were boisterously chatting, raising their hands from time to time for high fives. No, I looked away fromthat table. I was someone who preferred a quiet and relaxed atmosphere when having my meals. I would have to go over to the narrow wooden counter that lined one wall and sit on one of those stools. I took the one nearest to the door so that I could dash out of the place as soon as I finished my breakfast. My next class was on the sixth floor of the same building and I wanted to be on time for it.
I gingerly placed myself on the stool. I hated sitting on these tall stools where you have to balance yourself by placing your feet on the steel that circled the four legs.
I took out my phone and skimmed through various stuff on it.
"Are you following me?" someone spoke from behind me.
I turned to see who was talking to me.
"Who is following who?" I smirked at Cap.
He casually placed an arm around my shoulder.
"I thought you were," he replied, "because this place has been my favorite breakfast hangout since last year."
"Well, this is my first year here and this is my first time to come here," I remarked with a frown.
"I know, I was just trolling," he said.
I was starting to feel uncomfortable because he kept his arm across my shoulder and I'm not used to making physical contact with strangers. Not that he was a total stranger but I just met him today at class.
"Hey, Cap," I heard someone say from behind Cap.
I turned to see who it was. It was my roommate Bright.
