Chapter 37: Foray to Excursion
With the dawn came bird calls and other animal sounds as all of nature greeted the morning. Namjoon had fallen asleep again and this time I was able to escape his arms and leave the tent to begin to prepare breakfast. While he slept, I searched in the early morning light for roots and other plants that would make the meal more nutritious. The meal was more for him than for me, as I did not need more than my Light to sustain me. I would also eat, but it would be more to satisfy my pleasure, than to keep me alive.
I felt Namjoon stir from his sleep and soon he was moving around in the tent. Within several moments, he exited the tent, fully clothed, and sat behind me on the log as I bent over the food, finishing up preparations. I felt him staring at my bare legs and I turned and looked at him. Rather than respond to his growing desire, I handed him a cup of coffee fresh from the pot, "Sleep well?" I asked him as a courtesy and a distraction.
He smiled at me, not quite awake and took the cup from me carefully, "Thanks. Yes. I did. It was perfect." He said and winked at me almost groggily.
I laughed, finding him adorable and added food to his plate, then handed it to him with a set of chopsticks, "Mm. Thanks, again." He said and placed the plate on his lap. He gingerly sipped at his cup, aware of the temperature, then set it down beside him and began to eat from the food I had prepared. I set up my own plate with food and sat next to him, eating. I heard the call of a squirrel and called back, clicking my tongue five times fast and the squirrel responded, calling back to me. As Namjoon ate, he glanced sideways at me, "You know, I think Snow White must have been a fairie, because you are the quintessential Snow White. Are you really having a conversation with a squirrel right now?"
I laughed faintly under my breath and nodded, "The squirrel is telling me to stay away from her nuts. She has a stash over that way." I pointed towards where the sun was rising, "And another stash that way." I pointed to another location not far from where the first stash was. "And I will tell her that I have no interest in her food and will stay away from it." I lost focus for a moment then spoke as if far away, "And I think she has forgotten about an older stash not far from her tree. I will have to remind her." Namjoon was staring at me, having forgotten his plate of food, and I looked back at him as if to ask him, 'What?'
He shook his head and laughed a little, then began to eat again. "You really are like Snow White. It's the only thing I can compare it to. You are a Disney fairie princess."
I groaned a little, "Ugh. Disney." I said and shook my head. "I know there are worse things, but I do not think that it's exactly a compliment." I laughed a little and nibbled on my food.
He was surprised and looked at me again, "You don't like Disney?"
"I am not overly fond, no." I told him, "But I suppose the comparison is applicable."
He seemed to pout a little and I laughed, then quickly kissed his cheek. He suddenly grinned lightly and continued to eat, as if accepting that he was 'forgiven' for mentioning the corporation that had twisted the Grim tales into pretty fantasies of damsel like princesses and heroic princes, dragons and talking mice.
We sat, after finishing breakfast, enjoying the morning and the slowly climbing sun. He with his coffee and me with tea. Our conversation was casual and sometimes involved the animals, who were slowly moving around our camp site, confident that we were not a threat.
As the morning settled, he grabbed our plates and began to clean up from breakfast, while I went to put on more clothes and arrange our sleeping area for the next night. When I returned, I suggested that we hike to a location not too far from our campsite where a natural pond sat on the volcanic rock base that made up Jeju Island. He agreed and once we were ready we set out.

Namjoon watched Felina as they hiked. As she did so, she seemed to collect animals that would move around them. She spoke with them, sometimes in words and other times in chitters and whistles. For a time, a bird rode on her shoulder and he took a picture with his phone, as the bird perched there and sorted through the strands of her hair. She carried a bag of seeds with her and occasionally offered it to the bird as they walked. After a time the bird moved closer to her hair, seemed to cuddle into it, and her neck, then hopped to the end of her shoulder and flew to land several feet away on the branch of a tree. Felina whistled to the bird and raised her hand in farewell, continuing on. He shook his head with a smile and she called back to him, "You know, Joon-ah. Snow White is a fantasy." She turned around, walking backwards as she regarded him, "But I am very real."
Grinning at her, he increased his pace and moved closer to her as she slowed down, "Yep. You are very real." He agreed, "Beautifully so. You aren't glowing as much as you normally do when we are alone. Are you worried you will be seen?" He asked thoughtfully.
Felina shrugged a little and turned back around, "It's a precaution, mostly. I do not sense any others near. Just animals." Soon after her statement, they moved into a clearing. Just beyond the grasses and sparse bushes sat a pond with nearly crystal clear water, "And we are here." She continued with a bright smile.
"It's gorgeous!" He exclaimed excitedly and quickly threw off his shirt, trousers, shoes and socks, leaving him in his swim trunks. He quickly moved towards the water and began to wade in. Felina smiled at his enthusiasm and removed her clothes and shoes. As a concession to his modesty, she wore a two piece swimsuit. He admired her from the water, while she set her clothes to the side with his. Then, running, she jumped into the water, diving under the surface.

They splashed in the water, playing and splashing each other. Sometimes they came together and embraced, the water between them like a transparent silver thread, cooling their skin and causing them to move fluidly against each other. In their embraces they exchanged kisses, and then one or the other of them would grow playful and they would break apart again. More than once, Felina had dunked Namjoon under the water and more than a few times, he had grabbed her to toss her into it, where she would fall below the surface and not come up for air for much longer than he was comfortable. The first time she did this, he was worried and had dunked under the water to find her, only to see her grinning at him under the water as her hand moved through it, in a wave, slowly with the drag of the liquid surrounding them.
Coming up for air, he had moved quickly to her and grabbed her, "Lina! You scared me!" He had exclaimed and had squeezed his arms around her more than was necessary, loosening his hold with the dissipation of his fear.
She had breathlessly laughed and extricated herself from his arms, explaining, as she swam backwards, "I can hold my breath for a very long time." After her statement, he had chased her and they had begun to play more, as he sought to 'punish' her for scaring him.
Throughout the afternoon, he had chased and she had giggled, laughing in delight as she swiftly moved away from him. If she did not want him to catch her it was not likely to happen, but after vigorous movements in the water, she had finally allowed him to snare her. The surprise was a thrill of victory for him, and he was arrested by the glow in her eyes as she glimmered with it in her laughter. He had kissed her and they lost themselves in kisses for a time, before he had slowly started moving her towards the shore.

I leaned back against the shore, the water dripping from my body, soaking the bed of moss we were half laying in. My feet lay prone at the edge of the water as I stared at the sky, watching the clouds move over us. Namjoon sat, half leaning against his elbows, next to me. The moment was one of quiet as we enjoyed the sunshine, the play of the light through the leaves and branches of the nearby vegetation, and the gentle companionship between us in the ebb of our play. I watched as the clouds gathered and recognizing the signs, I stated, "It looks like it is going to rain tonight."
Namjoon looked up at the sky and studied the clouds. He tilted his head and said, "Is that a Snow White prediction?" He asked me.
I snorted at his question and nodded, "Something like that. I can smell the rain. It is gathering."
"Hm." Namjoon hummed, "And it's not the water from the pond, or the water in your nose?" He teased.
I wiggled my nose at him like a rabbit and shook my head, "Not at all. The pond water has a different scent from the water in the clouds. It will most likely rain."
He gazed at me and laughed lightly, then leaned over and kissed me, never able to get enough of my kisses, nor me of him. "My Snow White, fairie princess." He whispered affectionately and rubbed his nose with mine. "I will trust your judgment then." He jumped up and offered his hand to me to help me up, as well, "Let's go back to camp. Okay?" He suggested, "We probably need to prepare it for rainy conditions." Agreeing with Namjoon's statement, I took his hand and stood up with him. We gathered our clothes, put them back on, and hiked back to camp.
