Chapter 10: Was It A Dream, Afterall?
Seokjin sat on the chair in the hospital room waiting for Namjoon to wake up. He had been able to piece together some of the events after talking to Yoongi and Jimin, but not everything was clear. Jimin spoke about having dreamed of aliens coming to help them, but it had also felt so real, so he wasn't sure it was a dream, but then exclaimed, "How could such a thing be real, though? It must have been a dream. Or maybe I was so out of it that I didn't see anything right." Jimin did say that the woman had done something to Taehyung and then moved to talk to Namjoon, who was unconscious, until he wasn't, but Jimin hadn't watched them for long when the man tested his wrist, moved it painfully and then suddenly the pain was much better, though it still hurt. He explained, "That's why it was so weird, hyung. It hurt a lot and then it was better. Not broken, but more like a sprain as that's all it was. That's what the doctor said. It hurt a lot more than a sprain, though. At least at first." He fell silent, as he stared down at his wrist, looking deeply confused.
Yoongi wasn't much better. He had remained silent at Jimin's statement until Seokjin asked him what he had remembered other than the accident. He only said that yes there was a man and a woman that appeared after the accident, and as far as he could tell the woman was aware of who he was, as she had used his name right before she drove off. Before that she had made sure he was okay, gave him water and had him sit down next to her car, which he noted was locked. When Jin asked him how he knew that, Yoongi stated simply that he had checked the door, to maybe sit inside, but he wasn't able to open the door, so it must have been locked. He stated to Seokjin that he remembered asking the woman if she was a doctor, and that she had said something about probably being one, but she never actually answered his question directly, which he found a little suspicious. He was still in a half-muddled state at this point and had watched them hurry towards the van to assist his bandmates, and as he still wasn't feeling clear headed, he figured he may cause more harm than good if he joined them.
Seokjin recalled how they had reacted when their van drove up to the accident, as they had all recognized the other van and were alarmed. Before the car had stopped, Jungkook was already jumping out to go help and Hoseok was looking at the smoldering car with his mouth wide open. Seokjin remembered him saying in a deeply shocked voice, "I think there are burned bodies in the other car." As he gaped through the window. Seokjin had looked at him with a blank expression and hopped out of the car. He turned and looked at the driver who had been driving their van, and saw he was already on the phone, evidently talking to the company. He gestured to Hoseok to join him, as he started towards the wrecked van, following in Jungkook's path. Yoongi was leaning into the van, trying to untangle Taehyung's seatbelt. Jungkook was looking over the driver and Seokjin could see that Jimin and Namjoon were passed out, along with the driver who was lying prone at the front of the van. Taehyung was, of course, also passed out. Seokjin had announced his presence to Yoongi and then between him, Hoseok and Jungkook, they had gotten all their bandmates out of the van and had pulled the driver out too. By the time the ambulance had arrived, the driver was laying on the ground with a jacket over him, Taehyung was leaning against Yoongi's side, as they both leaned against the side of the van, and Jimin was awake supporting Namjoon as they also leaned against the side of the van in a similar position.
Seokjin remembered crouching down in front of Yoongi and checking him over for wounds, engaging him and Jimin in conversation, and asking what they remembered about what had happened. Obviously, there was an accident, and yet both Jimin and Yoongi didn't remember what had caused it. They only remembered hearing the sudden surprised grunt of the driver before looking up as the van careened out of control and then began to roll over several times. "It rolled three times." Yoongi had said, rubbing his head as if remembering a wound that he had sustained, "I remember that. I may have hit my head some, but I think it's okay." He had looked at Seokjin and continued, "It's not serious."
Looking up from his ruminations, Seokjin saw that Namjoon was awake and looking around the room. His eyes fell upon his friend, and he whispered, "Hyung." Seokjin stood quickly and moved to Namjoon's side, "Joon-ah." He answered, "The doctor says you have a concussion but it's not bad. That and some bruising. But you are okay, otherwise." He grabbed his friend's hand, reassuringly. "Do you remember what happened?" He asked.
Namjoon's brow furrowed, and he winced slightly at the movement, "Yeah... We crashed. I wasn't wearing my seatbelt. I only took it off briefly, but..." He paused, then continued in wonder, "Fuck. I'm surprised I'm not dead." He gingerly touched his head and looked down at his hand, "There was a woman. Louvre girl." He explained, "Did you see her?" He asked, looking at Seokjin again.
"No. I didn't. But Jimin said there was a woman there helping, and Yoongi doesn't have much to say about it. She may have been in the medical profession. A doctor, or something."
Namjoon looked at Seokjin thoughtfully, "Possibly." He responded, not saying anything else about it.
Then Seokjin looked at him again, pointedly, "Who is Louvre girl? Did you meet someone when you were in Paris?"
Namjoon looked down at his hand again, "No. I mean. Not exactly. I saw her there." He paused, "She left an impression."
Seokjin laughed a little at his expression, "I guess she did if you remember her from when you were in France." Then Seokjin suggested, "Maybe you were hallucinating a little. Maybe she looked similar, but it was someone else."
Namjoon shook his head slowly, careful of the pain in his head, "Her eyes were unmistakable. They were the clearest light blue, almost silver blue. I've never seen eyes like that." He explained.
"She wasn't Korean?" Seokjin asked, only mildly surprised.
Gazing down at his hand again Namjoon responded, "No. Definitely not. Maybe European. Tall, too. Maybe taller than me. She spoke Korean, though."
Seokjin leaned forward and spoke again, "You didn't meet her in France, but she spoke Korean?"
Namjoon laughed a little, "My head is foggy. Sorry." He explained, "I mean in the car, after the accident. She had an accent, but she spoke Korean. Fluently."
Sitting back against his chair, Seokjin watched his friend, "Oh. I see." He crossed his arms, explaining. "Jimin has some weird things to say about the whole thing. He suggested they might be aliens."
Namjoon looked at Seokjin and clasped his hands together, "They?" He asked and Jin nodded.
"Yeah. There was a guy there, too, with the woman. Yoongi said that they knew who he was, or at least that she used his name. I don't actually know if the guy knew who he was."
Namjoon sighed and looked out the window, "So aliens, huh?" He said, then explained, "It did feel strange, a little like a dream, but also real."
Seokjin leaned back against the chair definitively, "Yes. Jimin said the same."
Namjoon looked back at Seokjin, remembering he wasn't the only one in the van, "What about Taehyung?" He asked, a tone of concern in his voice.
"Oh." Jin responded. "So Taehyung was bruised and scratched up with a cut on his shoulder that needed a few stitches. He was also low on fluids, so they hooked him up to an IV. Yoongi messaged me a half hour ago and told me he was awake now and doesn't remember much, other than passing out at some point as the van was rolling. Yoongi barely had a scratch on him, and Jimin sprained his wrist. The driver is the worst off, but they say he will live. As far as I know he isn't awake yet."
Namjoon nodded, "That's a relief." He continued, "Also, did someone call my parents?"
"Yeah. All the right people have been called and a statement was made after our families were contacted to let them know. So it's in the news now. Army has been sending their prayers and hope for quick healing." He smiled at his friend and Namjoon also smiled, "Your parents said they would be here as soon as possible and Tae and Jimin's family are already here. Yoongi told his parents he was fine and told them not to worry, and they are staying home, he said."
Namjoon nodded again, "Yes. My parents were on vacation. It will take them some time to get here." He said, remembering the date.
Seokjin folded his hands together as he watched Namjoon. "You look thoughtful, Joonie."
Namjoon rubbed his palms over the blanket on his thighs and took a deep breath, then let it out, "It's just confusing. The memories are all mixed up in my head. I can't stop thinking about her."
Seokjin responded, "Louvre girl with the silver eyes."
Looking out the window with a bare nod, Namjoon seemed far away as he answered, "Yeah. Her." He looked at Seokjin again, "I guess nobody got her name?"
Seokjin shook his head, "Nope. Yoongi said she never offered, and he forgot to ask. The guy that was with her is a mystery as well. Jimin said they were insanely beautiful, though. Both of them."
Namjoon laughed softly at that, "That doesn't surprise me. She was ethereal in Paris. With long dark red hair up in a braid. And she walked like a dancer. I wouldn't be surprised if she was a model. She was so graceful." He explained.
Laughing, Seokjin responded, "Joon-ah! Are you smitten?"
Namjoon looked down at his hands, blushing, "I saw her once, and maybe dreamed of her once more. I can hardly be smitten." He explained.
Grinning, Seokjin responded, "But she left an impression." He teased.
Namjoon nodded again, carefully, but in agreement, "Yes. She did. That is true."
