Chapter 5

Through my closed eyelids, I see flashing lights like fireworks. I open my eyes to see myself standing in the middle of a street as people my age run past me in a different direction. All of them hold some kind of weapon and wearing mismatched clothing.

"Retreat!" A boy shouts as his two guns hinder the robots from attacking. Lasers shoot from his weapon and travel to the machinery, making it explode. I recognize him as the boy in the book. I internally celebrate to find my dreams finally takes me where I want to be.

I hear a loud swoosh of a catapult as a giant boulder flies in the air. The rock comes straight at me as its large shadow blocks the sun's afternoon rays.

I feel someone's arms wrap around my body, pulling me close. We both land on the pebbled. A small rock shower rains down on us, but I did not feel anything. The body on top of mine used himself as a shield.

My eyes shut in fear as I held on to my savior.

"Are you okay?" A deep rough voice grunts and prop himself upwards.

I look up at him, red-faced. His grey eyes search for any injuries.

I nod. "Thank you. I'm okay."

"Y-You..." The man shakes his head and pulls me up and guides me to the supposed hideout. "Come with me, before they capture us."

Part of me feels a familiar trust with the stranger who saved me. I follow the stranger as he shoots the flying disc robots.

We came upon a small cave. "Quick! In here!" he urges everyone to move quickly. He holds my hand and guides me inside. Once the footsteps and the robot's swooshing noises disappear in the distance, all the teenage rebels take deep breaths. Every face is matted with sweat and blood. A few lean on the cave walls. Some treat their comrades with supplies hidden throughout the cave.

The stranger who saved me pulls me in his arms and kisses my forehead. "I can't believe it! I thought you died, Bea!" He whispers.

I gently push myself out of his arms, feeling weird from the attention he showers me in. I bite my lip. "I-I am sorry, but I am not Bea."

He tilts his head and smiles. "Ah, is this one of your jokes again, Bea? Very funny. Now you got to tell me how did you do it? You made it out after all these months!"

I sigh. "I am not kidding..." The group looks at me with suspicion and awe. Whispers travel around as if I am not present in the room. I look at the stranger. "Let's talk in private, please."

He nods and walks to the back of the cave. "Follow me once you all finished treating any injuries and wounds," he says to the group. The healthy ones salute.

We left them as we travel deeper into the cave. He presses on a keypad under a makeshift rock. "If you remember, this is our hideout, Bea. I don't know what they did to you, but I know and remember you are Bea." He guides me to a small room in their hideout. The place shines like a modern workshop. It seems unusual for rebellious teenagers to build something sophisticated as this building!

He hugs me again from behind. "I promise I'll keep you safe from now on. I will never leave you again."

I wiggle out of his hold and look at him straight in the eyes. "Sorry, but my name is truly Blaire. I travel through my dreams to different unknown places."

He blinks and pats my shoulder. "Bea, you should rest. I know you don't have the same powers I have." He chuckles nervously. "You went through many traumatic things."

"You have the same powers as me?!" I exclaim. "No way! You are like the same guy I met through my other dream" I take a step closer to him in interest.

"You should know I have the power to travel through dreams..." He takes a step back. "You must be a spy from the government!"

I raise my hands in surrender. "Don't accuse me! I am innocent! Yesterday night, I traveled to a medieval castle to help Princess Bastia."

His eyes widened in realization. "That's why you look familiar. Not only do you look like Bea... But the girl who took Princess Bastia's role!"

I point a finger at him. "And you are the guy kissing girls' wrist and acting like a prince!"

He covers my mouth with his hand, shushing me. "Fine, you caught me. I am no prince, but I caught you, too. If the government here finds out about us, they will cause more chaos just to turn us into mindless weapons," he whispers.

I remove his hand from my mouth. "Fine. I'll lower my voice. What do you know about our powers?" I ask quietly.

He walks over to the corner of the room and shows me his journal. "I don't know much about all the universe's secrets, but I know that dreams are parallel dimensions. The dimension with Princess Bastia is Dimension 543. This Dimension is 18,530," he explains.

I stop him. "Wait, too many numbers. Every dream has a number code?"

He nods. "I believe every time a person sleeps, their minds travel in code to a parallel dimension of their own life. Our powers allow us to experience and make choices for ourselves. Like how you are here conversing with me in my world."

"All I know is that I have a doppelganger in different dimensions! It must be the same for you!" I realize.

He scratches the back of his neck. "But what I don't know is why our dreams are connected. I see you in different dimensions. I always thought that Bea has powers like mine, but when I talked to her before, she looks at me weirdly and only laughs."

I frown. "In this world, did she..." I pause.

Silence looms in the air as the boy's grey eyes crinkle downwards as if he relives a memory he denies to have happened. "Yes. The tyrant tied her in an electrocution chair. She sacrificed herself to save me... I never saw her, but I heard stories from the field team who were with her at the time."

I wrap my arms around him, and he does the same. He needs comfort, and I feel like I should helo him. "Bea is a brave and loving soldier. She is watching you finish what she started. We will not let her death be in vain."

"We?" He asks.

I step away and look at the ground. "Of course! I will fight with you and your group." I stare into his grey eyes. Besides, my dimension is boring anyway." I chuckle.

He presses his fingertips on my forehead.

I look up at his striking grey orbs. "What are you doing?"

"Checking what dimension you live in. Maybe one day, I will visit you there after all this rebellion ends." He grins proudly, like a confident Peter Pan.

I laugh. "I will help you here in this dimension. This won't be the last time you will see me."

"Dimension 8,210," he whispers and smiles. "I'll wait for you then." With his hand on my cheek, I slowly fade away back to my boring world.
