#66 The Road to the Capital II

And what followed next, were screams. Screams from the carriage. Screams from the frightened mothers in the crowd.

Never have I seen Regalis so furious.

"A cliff is ahead!" One of the villagers screamed.

I turned to look at the kidnapper. He was smirking. He'd known a cliff was ahead. And set off the horse, so it headed that way.

Gosh! It terrified me. How could anyone be comfortable being this cruel to harmless children?

The sword in Regalis's hand moved, and the next moment, cut across the kidnapper's jugular. And he dropped dead to the ground.

His eyes went to the carriage.

What could be done now? The horse was speeding so fast. And the frightened cries of the kids was making my heart bleed. In this darkness, the horse would most likely, not notice the cliff. And then, all our efforts would be in vain, as the kids would die.

The only way now, was to stop the speeding horse. Before it jumps over the cliff. How?

Quickly, I watched Regalis remove his gloves. Since he started letting himself eat, drink water and rest, his Gift had returned again in full force.

He stretched his arms. And his lightning struck a tree, ahead of where the villagers said, the cliff was!

Instantly, struck by lightning, the tree collapsed across the road. With a thunderous clap. Falling right in front of the horse.

And with the little ray of light that came with the lightning, and with the heavy sound from the fall of the tree, the horse noticed the huge obstacle in front of it, and immediately stopped.

I breathed in.

Regalis breathed in.

And everyone in the crowd, released the breath they had been holding.

I thought we wouldn't see these children again, and yet, somehow, before it was too late, Regalis thought of a way. Found a way to save some of his people.

I grinned at him. As cheers of joyous sounds burst from the crowd. Fathers thanking Regalis, mothers hugging their children, as they carried them out of the carriage, and held them like the most precious treasure in the world.

Some of the kids had been tied with ropes, which were cut. With laughter and smiles.

A while ago, sadness filled here. But now, it was joy galore.

And as Regalis help cut some of those ropes round the kids, who could not resist hugging him, I could tell one thing. Something had changed. Something had changed within Regalis.

Like me, he was now determined not to let Randall make the rules again. He was determined to fight him. To face him. For the safety of our people. And I believed, we'd win! Because we were in this together! And not alone!

Together! We'll defeat all foes as we did tonight!
