Healing Her
Third Person's POV:
Arjun handed the keys to Yudhisthir, there was nothing more he wanted than to push the door open and run in.
But now that the moment was finally here his heart threatened to break free from its cage.
The heavy weight of the keys settled in the palms of the eldest pandav.
He moved forward, pushing the key in before turning the lock.
The fragrance of blue lotuses swarmed the air, nearly stilling the breath of the Pandavas.
Bheem frowned, as under the Lotus fragrance he could smell something burned.
Followed by a taint of coppery smell in the air.
"It seems like charred flesh and..."
The five stared at each other, realisation had their eyes widening, panic punched them in the gut.
"Blood."
They chorused, the moment the word was out of their mouth, they rushed at blinding speed.
Dread fueling their every actions.
The doors slammed hard on the wall, as their eyes set on the bed.
It was as though they had entered their worst nightmare.
There on the bed lay their wife, tears running down her cheeks, even down she was clearly unconscious, she was still crying.
There was gash on her head, blood seeping on the bed and drenching her clothes.
"Jyest..." Sehdev choked on tears, his eyes focusing on his wife's feet.
"Look at her feet."
The pandavas sucked in their breaths sharply, her skin was a mangled mess, blood and white puss oozing from her scalded skin.
The twins kicked into the actions, as Nakul slammed on his knees in front of her feet, his hands hovering over the damaged layers.
He threw the bag open that he always carried with him, in case of emergencies.
Thank god for this habit.
He pulled out the supplies, his heart hammering wildly, as he pulled out cotton, cleaning her feet with delicate hands.
"Ah." She moaned in pain, Yudhisthir rushed to her side, his hand wrapping around hers, Bheem holding her other hand.
Her grip tightened on theirs.
Pain flaring in her feet, jolting her awake.
Tears trekked down the corner of her eyes, Arjun cleaned the blood on her head.
"Shh it is all going to be alright." Yudhisthir crooned.
Draupadi was in too much pain to know who were around her.
"Everything is going to be fine. We'll help you." Sehdev promised as he worked on her other foot, cleaning the blood.
Screams pierced through her mouth, all she could feel was pain.
It consumed her entire being. Burning her from within.
Arjun began opening the crushed bag of medicinal herbs, adding it in a bowl, and putting it over her gash.
She hissed.
"I'm sorry."
He whispered, her scream sparking a deep ache within her.
"I am putting numbing herbs, give it some time. Everything will be fine."
Panchaali could hear the soothing male voice, but she was in too much pain.
Her body thrummed with deep ache, burning her from within.
She prayed for death in that moment.
The eldest son of Madri gazes at the wounds, the deep lecerations in her feet, the charred flesh.
Determination flooded through the eldest son of Madri he'll be damned if he let his wife die in front of him.
"Come on Drau."
Pain pierced through his words, he continued crushing the herbs and applying them on her foot.
Sehdev pulled open their trunk, tugging out his herbs.
"Press this on her head!"
He shouted, panic lacing his every word, as he passed a heavily padded cloth to Bheem, who jolted out of his stupor.
Yudhisthir and Arjun helping their youngest sibling to find the herbs and pastes, as he demanded.
Panic was heavy in the air. Fear oscillating over their neck like a sharp blade.
Sehdev wanted nothing more than to replicate what his twin was doing, but he was needed to make the medicine.
He focused on making the salve.
Tears burned in their eyes, their hearts thrumming with anxious energy.
"Oh baby. I'm so sorry."
Tears traced down Bheem's face, he pressed the cloth on her gash, staunching the blood flow, which had begun once again.
Agony burned in his heart, tears flowed freely down his cheeks.
"This is the worst torment baby." He sobbed, gazing at her, but she couldn't hear him, as she shut her eyes screaming in pain.
"She will be fine jyest." Arjun's determined voice rang through the room.
Tears were trekking down his cheeks without any restrictions, but his face was set.
His eyes locked on their wife.
"We have come too far to lose her now." He hissed, his gaze locking with each of his brothers.
Nakul nodded with others.
"Move Jyest, I have to give her this medicine." Sehdev whispered, moving Bheem, as he pressed a cup to her lips.
"Open up love." He crooned, making her drink the liquid.
"It will make her a little drunk so when Nakul and I stitch her wounds in her feet, she won't feel the pain too much."
He explained, before he moved to her head.
"Move your hand." He said softly.
"Here the needle." Yudhisthir passed the needle to his youngest brother.
"Be gentle Dev." Arjun whispered, his heart squeezing in his chest, he sat on her one side holding her hand in his enormous one.
Bheem said opposite doing the exact same thing.
Their eldest brother sat behind his wife, letting her lean on his chest, his arms encased her, to hold her at a better angle for Sehdev to stitch her head.
"Do it."
The eldest son of Pandu whispered, fear threading through his voice.
Sehdev nodded, he had performed thousands of surgeries never once his hand shook.
But gazing at his bride's innocent face, his hands wavered.
Her eyes opened, they were glassy as the medicine did it's work. But the deep ache in those beautiful orbs crushed him.
He cupped her cheeks, his watery gaze holding hers.
"Don't give up. We are doing everything. Fight my girl. Fight." His words were strong, lending her the strength she needed.
Dread threaded up his spine, his gaze settling on the wound on her head that was gaping at him.
He shook his head, blocking away all the emotions, focusing on healing her.
She mattered more than his comfort and feelings.
Her life was everything to him.
"Everything will be fine." He assured more himself than anyone in the room, as he began stitching.
Nakul on the other hand cleared the numbing salve from her feet, it would have done its job of numbing her precious feet.
So that he could knit back the laceration in her feet.
He began to work on her soles, stitching effectively, as his twin.
And sat back, a sigh of relief passing through him, at least he had prevent any real damage from happening at her feet.
Relief flooded him like a cool wave of wind.
His fingers running through his hair, tugging at them.
He was finally done.
He applied another salve that would increase her healing, and prevent any infection from happening.
He stood wiping his hands clean, he sat next to Yudhishthir, pressing his lips to his wife's head.
"Her feet will be fine."
His words had relief seeping through the Pandavas.
"This wound is a little deeper. But the stitching will help." The youngest pandav stated, his eyes completely focused on his task.
"Ah!" Her pained moaned flayed their heart.
The three eldest pandav tightened their grip on their wife.
"Everything is going to be fine sweety." Yudhisthir whispered in her ear, kissing it.
"It hurts." She whimpered.
"I know love, I know." Arjun crooned.
"A few more minutes. I promise everything will be fine." Bheem promised.
"I...hurt....I alone." Speaking was a difficult task for Draupadi, as everything was muddy in her brain.
Everything was swirling.
"You're never alone love. Never. You will always have us."
Nakul assured, running his fingers through her hair, moving them away from her face.
Her heart thumped hard against her, she couldn't focused on anything, but this words of strangers soothed her.
They grounded her.
Sehdev leaned back, sighing in relief.
"The stitched are done. Pass me the salve."
He pointed to the green paste laying in the bowl.
Arjun passed him what he required before returning to his place.
With delicate hands, he slowly applied the salve before bandaging her head.
"In no time you're going to be as good as new princess. " He promised, smiling down at her, flicking her nose.
She pouted.
Her body felt heavy, as though she was being pressed down by some weight.
The medicine was messing with her brain, making it difficult to pay attention.
There were seconds of clarity before everything was swirling again.
Was she intoxicated?
"Who are you?" She couldn't help but ask.
Trying to focus on things around, but everything was spinning.
"We are your husbands love. Your family." Sehdev replied honestly.
He new they were supposed to lie, but it was so difficult seeing her so lost feeling so alone.
And he knew she wouldn't remember this.
"Drau." Arjun whispered.
His wife fought to keep her eyes open,to stay awake, but it felt like her brain was full of cotton and reality was a broken mess.
The medicine was doing it's job.
"Draupadi." Yudhisthir whispered her name, trying to make her focus.
"Who are you..." the words were slurred, as she blinked hard.
He couldn't help but smile at her adorableness.
"Your husband." He concluded.
"Hus...band" She almost sang the word, making the five chuckle, their eyes stung as their gazes blurred, wetness trekking down their cheeks.
Pure unadulterated joy pulsed through them.
And it felt like for the first time in years they could breath. The crushing weight of the grief over their hearts completely vanished.
Draupadi smiled, before giggling.
Everything around her was so pretty. She thought giggled harder.
"Arya..."
She didn't know why she said it.
But it felt right.
The Pandavas heart squeezed, at that dark point in their lives, they had begged the god's to give them this one chance to hear this one word.
A watery chuckle passed through Yudhisthir's lips, as she laughed harder.
"Where have you all been?" She whined.
Arjun squeezed her hand.
"We are here now." He whispered, kissing the back of her hand.
"But you were not earlier." She tried to sit up, but the world tilted on its axis, she swayed.
"Wow there kitten, no sudden moments. You're still healing."
The third son of Kunti, grabbed her shoulders, preventing her fall, her first husband tightened his hold on her.
"They hurt me." She whimpered, tears forming in her eyes.
Fury buzzed under their hide, swarming their body like a lethal poison.
Now that they had healed her, the beasts in them rose, and they were salivating for blood.
"Who baby?" Yudhisthir cupped her cheek, making her look up at him, his face a blank mask.
She blinked, unable to focus. But the painful memory passed through her mind.
"Father." She slurred, her bottom lip wobbling.
"The general." She whimpered.
"Devyani." She hiccuped.
Wetness tracing her soft rosy cheeks.
Each name was craved in their brain, their hands fisting. The Pandavas gazed at each other, their eyes hard, wrath bubbling in their chest.
Draupadi's first husband tightened his hold on her, pulling her against his chest, letting her head rest there, as he ran his fingers through her tresses.
"Shhh baby, now we are here. I promise you on our love. We will tear down every last one of them."
The Pandavas nodded at the words of their eldest brother, though calmness rang through his every syllable, the undercurrent of the blazing anger didn't go unnoticed.
"I will make every last one of them pay for every precious tear that left your eyes. They'll die a new death everyday." Bheem added, intense wrath raging in his eyes.
"They will die baby. I promise you this. Every last one of them." Arjun pressed his lips on her forehead, his hard features a complete contrast to his soft touch on her.
"Death will seem like a mercy to the life we'll give them." Promised Nakul, helping Yudhisthir to lay their wife back on the bed, cautionsly laying her head on the pillow.
"Sleep my love, we are here. Your protectors are back around you." Sehdev whispered kissing her nose, pulling the blanket over her.
Their gazes met, there was no time to waste. They had plans and they had a lot of work cut out for themselves.
After all it was time for payback. . .
