A New Normal

Morning sunlight filtered inside  Draupadi's room through the large window overlooking the mountains.

Brihannala walked in the room, placing a warm cup of medicines on the nightstand.

"Wake up Princess." He whispered, his gaze tracing her sleepy form that lay on the bed.

Draupadi's dark tresses were set loose creating a dark halo around her, her pristine soft skin glowing in the morning sunlight.

"You keep feeding me this medicine and at this rate I'll always be drowsy." She grumbled, her voice hoarse with sleepiness.

An amused smile curved up on her luscious berry red lips, though her eyes never opened.

Arjun felt like this was all a dream, his wife was right infront of him.

After assuming her dead for the longest, this was a miracle that he was living, and he never for a second wasted it.

"Wake up dear. You have a long day awaiting ahead of you." He reminded, warmth unfurling in his chest, as he moved towards the curtains, pulling them open.

The sudden burst of sunlight in the room, had his wife groaning in annoyance as she pulled the duvet over her head.

"This is not fair. I am so comfortable." She whined, earning a chuckle out of him.

Arjun moved towards her walk in closet pulling out an emerald lehnga and blouse, along with a matching odhani and accessories.

"Wake up Princess." He called out once again.

His heart bursting with joy, being her husband in Hastinapur she did everything for them and for once here the roles were reversed and he enjoyed it.

No wonder she loved to do all the things for them.

It gave a different happiness to help your partner.

"But sakhi..." she whined, pushing the duvet back her eyes fluttering open, and for a moment his heart stopped in his chest.

Those dark orbs landed on him, golden ambers glowing with joy.

"Dhriti." He said firmly, his voice though stern, held no heat.

His bride pouted at him. The damn lip making the organ in his chest constrict, he wanted to reach out and touch it, he could almost envision the velvety softness under his skin.

"Why does morning come so early?" Since Arjun had met her a week back, they had been the closest of friends.

Him and his brothers caring for her basic needs had made their bond grow fast.

Though she didn't remember anything, she was still the closest to them.

"Because it is important to break this lazy spell and do something productive." He stated, placing her attire for today on the bed.

"Let me check your wounds dear." Seriousness threaded through his words, as he sat beside her, his hand peeling back the bandage.

The injury on her head had healed beautifully and Nakul had gotten rid of all the stitches.

"Sakhi I am fine. You don't have to worry." Draupadi assured, her voice soft.

It had been a week of friendship with her five new friends, but she felt like she knew them forever.

Though the amazing medicines of her friends Nakul and Sedev had worked wonders, she was good as new.

"Shh darling. Let me be the judge of it." He added, inspecting her injury, completely removing bandages now that her skin was good as new, no scares left behind thanks to the twins.

He smiled down at her.

Her radiant beauty making his breath hitched, he reached out cupping her cheek.

"See, I am fine." She beamed making him roll his eyes.

"Yes, miss smartypants. Now drink the medicine." He reached across from her, his body leaning into hers, making her heart skip a beat, as his warmth tempted her to lean in and kiss him.

Her cheeks heated, as she brushed the thought away.

What was wrong with her? He was a enunch. He wasn't even interested in her. Could never be...

Arjun felt her breath hitched, the husband in him smirked, knowing his effect on her.

His hand wrapped around the glass, pulling back he held it out to her.

Her face scrunched up, as she glared down at the offending vessel.

"No no. Now I'm fine sakhi." She whined.

"You know you have to drink it." He added, preparing himself mentally for this argument.

Every morning it was the same dance.

"But it tastes so yuck." She whined.

"But it is good for your health." The firm voice of Yudhisthir had the duo turning, as he walked in with the rest of Pandavas, making Draupadi's breath hitched.

No matter how many times she saw them, they had the same effect on her soul.

They made her heart thrum with so many emotions that were foreign to her.

"But Dharmraj..." she began, her bottom lip wobbling.

"No arguing Dhri." His voice was stern, the same one he used with his younger brothers.

And the effect was noticeable, as her shoulders sagged in defeat.

"Give me this glass of poison." She grumbled, making the pandavas bite back their laughter at her antics.

She frowned down at the green liquid, once her husband passed her the glass.

"Here goes nothing." She stated, she screwed her eyes shut, holding her breath, she drank everything in one go.

"Ew! Ew! Ew!" She jumped from the bed, passing the offending glass back to Arjun, she jumped on her toes, as though it will wish the taste away in her mouth.

The four Pandavas bursted out in laughter as Yudhishthir smirked, amusement thick in air.

"Yes yes laugh at my misery." She whined, her eyes watering with the horrible taste.

"Aw my poor baby." Bheem crooned walking ahead with a small platter of laddos.

"Here eat this." He encouraged, holding one out to her lips.

She pouted before opening her mouth and biting into it.

"You're my only true friend."

She concluded, making the other three Pandavas gap at her with fake shock while the eldest one just shook his head humor rolling in his chest.

"I know dear. Come let's get you ready." Vrikodar winked at her, holding his big calloused palm out to her.

Her dainty hand rested in his. He gave it a reassuring squeeze.

"Come on."

He helped her move to her bathroom, her feet were still tender but healed enough that she could walk around freely for short periods of time.

Sehdev pushed the door open, as Arjun carried in her dress, keeping it on the counter.

"Get ready dear. We'll be out waiting. If you need something call me." Arjun stated, cupping her cheeks, as Bheem helped her lower herself on the stool making her sit.

Dhriti knew she shouldn't be allowing the men in, no one except Bhrihannala should enter.

But she didn't care.

"Okay."

"Are you sure you don't want any maids?" Sehdev asked from the vanity, though he never turned to look at her.

"No!" Her reply was too fast panic punching her every word.

Terror shot through her veins, webbing it's way to her heart. Her breaths came in short pants, her hands shaking violently.

"Shhh. We are sorry. We aren't getting anyone in. No one. Calm down. Breath with me." Bheem assured, the other two kneeled in front of her.

They rubbed her hands. The youngest pandav cupped her cheek, making her watery gaze fix on his firm ones.

"Breath sweetheart." He cooed.

His husky voice breaking through the dreadful haze, that had settled over her.

Her watery gaze anchored with his concerned ones.

"I'm sorry." Regret marked his words.

"I don't want to go out." She whispered, taking in a deep breath.

"No one is pushing you to. I am sorry. I wasn't thinking." He appologised.

"Please don't say sorry." Her voice quivered, she shook her head.

"You all have done so much for me. You have nothing to appologise. Ever."

She sniffed , cupping his cheek, giving him a soft smile.

"Though you can appologise for creating that horrondrous concoction that you make me drink every morning."

Her teasing words had the desired effect, the three gave a laugh shaking their heads.

"You missy can't escape that drink." Bheem booped her nose, she huffed, though her heart was light with joy.

"Now get ready, we have a lot to do." Arjun reminded, ruffling her hair.

"Hey!"

"You have two minutes." He reminded, walking out with the other two, who winked at her.

She rolled her eyes, as they shut the door behind it.

They had been her complete support system for the past week, no one had even come in to check on her and these men had done everything to help her.

It surprised her in a matter of days how she had come to trust them.

There was something about the five. She couldn't exactly place a finger on it, but she felt at home around them.

Like her heart knew them, they tugged at her emotions in a way no one ever had.

She shook her head.

She didn't have time to think, she needed to take her bath. . .

"Our spies have infiltrated the palace." Sehdev stated, gazing at his brothers, who sat around the room.

The eldest nodded, looking at Nakul.

"I have been following Rajendra and there are somethings that I have noted are completely shadowy about him." The first son of Madri began.

"He visits the forest regularly. And conducts a pooja." He frowned.

"I am not certain for what. He has made certain animal sacrifices. It definitely is dark magic." He continued on.

"I have been investigating, Drau's memories are being suppressed by some form of medication." Bheem began.

"It has been given to her through her food." He continued.

His hands fisted, jaw set. The air around the room was heavy.

The five gazing at each other.

"Medicines like those are very harmful for the one they are being given to." Arjun's grim voice spoke the unsaid words that none uttered.

"Yes. I remember that class very well when gurudev had taught us the basics of deception." The second son of Kunti added.

"But those are only ever given in small doses. My calculations is correct, our girl cannot take anymore. It is too risky. I am surprised it hasn't left any permanent damage on her yet." Nakul's voice was urgent.

"Don't worry Anuj. We will fix everything.  From today on all her drinks and food will be monitored by us. Everything that reaches her, passes through us first." The eldest brother added.

"Our girl has suffered enough." The youngest pandav added, receiving the nod from his brothers.

"Her memories will return naturally once that medicine stops." Nakul added, making the others sigh in relief.

"That's a good news. Nakul direct the spies what to do. I want them in every corner. Nothing that happens in this place should ever go unnoticed." The eldest commanded.

"The plan is moving forward. To pull out the mastermind. We need to toy with Rajendra a bit." He continued.

"What do you mean bhraata?" Arjun asked confused.

"You know as well as I do, that the one who had seperated our wife from us is someone from Hastinapur. Someone we all know, otherwise there is no way, he could have done the harm he had."

Tension was thick in the air, like a poisonous gas blaneting the place.

"You are right brother. The amount of information they had and the way the attacks were made, it was almost as though that person knew everything that we had planned. And no one knows that except our family." Bheem agreed.

"The day I get my hands on that bastard I will make his life miserable." Sehdev's jaw set, hands fisting on his knees.

"Oh you won't have to wait for long, I have a plan." The eldest Kuruvanshi added, making the four stare at him curiously.

Before he could continue the door opened.

The five turned to the bathroom, Yudhisthir and Nakul moving towards her.

She held the doorway, her feet unsteady.

There was slight tremor in her body, her fingers tightening, her feet ached.

"This is ridiculous." She grumbled, her voice wavering.

Her muscles protested, exhaustion heavy in her limbs.

"How can one get tired by a simple bath?" Frustration leaked through her every word.

Nakul wrapped his hand around her waist, her head resting on his shoulder, he grabbed her one hand in his, as first husband held her from the other side, holding her delicate hand in his much bigger and stronger one.

"You are still healing. Your body is going to get exhausted more easily because it is using all its energy to heal your feet." The eldest son of Madri explained patiently, his voice tender.

"But I hate being such a burden." She stated, her bottom lip sticking out.

"Stop pouting dear. You are far from a burden." Her first husband added, his voice firm.

The duo helped her walk across the room, they cautiously lowered her on the bed, helping her sit.

Her long wet hair set freely on one side of her neck. She wore the comfortable green lehnga that Arjun had selected for her.

It was soft and elegant, and she looked very much beautiful in it.

"But this is so silly. I wish I was fine already." She grumbled.

Bheem chuckled walking up behind her, holding a towel that he passed to Arjun who knelt on the bed behind her.

He took the towel from his older brother and began drying her hair.

"You don't have to do that." She whispered softly.

"I know dear. But I want to." He added, delicately drying her long wet tresses.

"Thank you. I don't know what I ever did to deserve you all as my friends." Her voice was tight with emotions, the golden blaze in her dark gaze burning with warmth.

"It is us, who are privileged to have you." Sehdev added, a soft smile curving on his lips, carrying an incense burner.

He passed it to the Gandivdhaari, who smiled as his thanks.

"You don't have to do all this Bhrihannla." She protested.

"It is what I really wish. For too long I have waited to do this." Arjun whispered, honesty bleeding through his words.

"What do you mean?" She was confused.

Was it pain she heard in her friend's voice?

But that couldn't be right.

"Ignore her." Yudhisthir pulled his wife's attention to him, as he picked up the cloth from the food platter.

"No." Panchaali shook her head, shutting her eyes.

"I am not hungry so early in the morning." She whispered, shaking her head.

The five chuckled at her antics.

"Don't be silly." Dharmraj admonised.

Making a bite of the food that Bheem had prepared.

"Bheem has taken great efforts to make the food. Won't you taste it?" At his words, her eyes flew open.

"You made it?" She asked in disbelief.

The second son of Pandu beamed proudly. "Yes."

"Aw." Tears shone in her eyes.

"What happened?" The five asked panicked.

"If you don't like it don't eat it." Bheem added hurridely.

She shook her head.

"Oh no. This are tears of joy. I am just so touched. You made food for me? No one took so much efforts for me before." Panchaali whispered.

Bheem cupped her cheek crouching in front of her. His heart gave a sharp squeeze at her words.

"You need anything. And I mean anything you tell us. We'll make it happen. Don't you ever think you are alone. Do you understand?" He asked, raising a brow at her.

She blinked back another wave of tears, nodding at his words.

"We are your family." Yudhisthir added, pinching her chin between his forefinger and thumb making her look at him.

"Never forget that." He added.

"Just like that?" She asked, turning her head sideways.

The five smiled.

"Just like that." He assured, booping her nose.

She sniffled, Bheem squeezed her hand, as her first husband fed her.

Flavours burst in her mouth, making her moan out loud.

"It is so yummy." She hummed.

The five chuckled at her childishness.

"I am glad you loved it." Bheem added kissing her nose.

"Eat." Yudhisthir placed the platter on her lap, once the third son of Kunti finished drying her hair, tying it in a loose bun.

"Why do you always tie my hair, like I am married?" Draupadi asked taking another bite of the delicious kheer, her eyes sparkling with curiousity as she gazed at the one who had won her hand in swayamvar.

Arjun just smiled at her mysteriously not choosing to answer.

"Eat your food." He added instead.

She smiled, as she held a bite out to him.

"Only if you all eat with me." She stated, patting the place next to her, her eyes gazing expectedly at the five.

The Pandavas smiled, she may not remember marrying them, but her care hadn't changed a bit.

They sat around her, as she fed them one after another, laughing and telling them some stories, but all they could look at was her.

Their wife, their joy was once again there with them. And there was nothing they could ask for more.

"What are you staring at?"

Draupadi asked looking at her husbands, who smiled at her shaking their heads, choosing not to answer.

"What were you saying?" The youngest pandav prompted instead, and just like that her eyes twinkled as she narrated another story, making their hearts light.

This was heaven. . .
