Prologue
Hecate was a goddess. A mother of a new age. She was reigning goddess of Witchcraft, the Moon, creatures of night, & doorways. She was no more good, as well as no more evil. Hecate wasn't a complicated goddess. She knew if , & when she'd tipped the scales of time for peace or chaos.
She was growing weak from no coven worshipping her name. A coven strong enough to topple others if need be. Eight women had babies at different times. Surnames of Park, Im, Hirai, Minatozaki, Myoui, Son, Kim, & Chou for each babe born. These women & new mothers had experienced extreme fatigue after childbirth.
They all decided to give up such precious baby girls. Innocents. Hecate was truly maternal & sensed great power within the little babies.
Hecate left a note with the babes at the orphanage. It was a sweet but ominous promise to the eight girls. Her note read the following:
Dearest Babes,
Life will be troublesome & heartbreaking. You are blessed. You are as blessed, as I breath. You'll grow up seeking a home & needing guidance...
I'm truly sorry your mother' had felt unfit of your love. A love so powerful it can change even the darkest of mankind. I want you to stick with each other. It's your only shot at absolute peace of mind.
I know I make no sense to you, girls. However, you'll soon understand. This isn't a goodbye. This is a promise. You'll know my true name soon enough.
Sincerely,
Mother
These eight babies had a promise. These children will have a home later on in life. A home that they'll never part. A place full of love.
Hecate watched as the crying baby girls were taken in by the orphanage. Oddly enough she was fascinated with them. Sure as day, they were blessed. However, some would call this blessing a curse.
Children often ran about the orphanage in harmless fun or terror of the other children bullying them. Not these babes. Not Hecate' eight daughters. The eight girls wore black & were fond of learning Latin, much to the dismay of others.
Hecate had seen it all & endured alongside the babes. She felt the triple hurt of heartbreak from Jihyo, Tzuyu, & Sana over a boy who used them as a bet. She also felt the excitement when Dahyun, Mina, & Jeongyeon furthered their curiosity of magic. Hecate watched all that happened from a far. It was most fulfilling when Momo, Nayeon, & Chaeyoung rivaled a mere boy, showing him the grace of a true lady. That they were no one' toy.
Hecate sent a gift. It had been many years & they did not live in the orphanage walls together. Her gift was tiny, but useful. She sent a hound with a recipe. A recipe her to daughter, Jihyo, who needed it now more than ever.
