Chapter 7
Macy felt her heart stop at the darkness that fell across Cameron's face. His lively sapphire colored eyes had darkened, resembling the darkness of anger. Her breath caught in her throat as his gaze held her own. His eyes, deep dark depths of pure anger, caused every fear Macy had ever known to come back.
There was only one person she knew who could look at her with eyes so dark that they held no soul. Macy's heart was beating so erratically fast, she was sure she was going to pass out. The darkness of Cameron's eyes resembled Xavier's so much, Macy was sure they were the same person.
Cameron's wolf begged to surface. Just the simple thought of that evil man made a different version of Cameron come out. And it wasn't pleasant. When Xavier's name was said, it hung in the air and vowed to never leave. It made Cameron angry, so angry in fact he couldn't think.
"N-no." Macy's fearful voice echoed through his mind causing Cameron's wolf to back down, realizing he had given himself away. When his vision cleared he was surprised to see Macy against the door, her back pressed tightly against the wood and her hand gripping the doorknob. Cam stood up quickly and Macy gasped, wheeling around and throwing the door open.
But Cameron wasn't entirely human. The other half of his body was Were and the ability to run faster than the normal human being was one of their many attributes. His hand pressed the door closed with a loud slam and he cursed himself at the horrified look that fell across Macy's face.
"Macy, I..." she backed slowly away from him, her eyes wide and her face pale. She look terrified and it broke Cam's heart. "I can explain." She swallowed hard and looked around the room before looking back at him. No escape. It tore him apart inside to see the scared look in her eyes. And it was directed at him.
"Y-you're just l-like h-him." She whispered, her brilliant hazel eyes wide. If Cameron was like Xavier, then him saving her wasn't actually rescuing her. This was a whole new version of hell. At the reference of Cameron being compared to Xavier, a snarl left his lips.
"No! Me and him are far from the same!" He couldn't help it. His wolf was in partial control of Cameron's emotions. Macy jumped at the intensity of his voice and ended up tripping over the piano bench, landing hard on her wrist. Her eyes burned as she cried out, falling back and holding her wrist in her hand. It felt as if she had been stabbed and that the blade had been twisted. Tears fell down her cheeks as she scrambled to get away from Cameron. When her back hit the wall abruptly, the air was knocked out of her lungs and she was left gasping for air.
Cameron heard her cry of pain. He heard her tears begin to fall and land on the hardwood of his bedroom floor. They sounded like explosions. Suddenly, his anger was gone and in its replace was sadness and weakness. He took a step towards his injured mate and she pressed herself tighter against the wall, her eyes wide and fearful. He was then hit with remorse and guilt and it made him breathless. His heart ached to fix what he had broken.
"Macy. I'm so sorry." He said, his voice low and just for her to hear. He got down on his knees and looked at her with pleading eyes. Xavier had never begged for forgiveness when he had hurt her. The guilt swimming in Cameron's eyes knocked the breath out of her lungs. She could feel his remorse. He hadn't meant to hurt her.
"I'm so sorry. Please." He begged, his eyes pleading with hers. She knew he was telling the truth. She knew he was sorry, but could she risk letting him back in? What if she angered him again? With her past experiences with werewolves, you do not make them mad.
"It wasn't you who made me angry, Macy. I promise, it wasn't you. Please." It was as if he had just plucked the thoughts from her head and she hiccuped as another wave of tears fell down her cheeks.
"You're a w-werewolf." She stuttered and Cam nodded.
"I am, but I'm different than from the kinds you know," he said and Macy was confused. Seeing her confusion, he continued. "My family and I, we're the good guys. Xavier and his pack are what we call rogues, Were's who became evil." He explained and Macy hiccuped. She felt as if his words rang true. But Cam could see the caution in her eyes.
"Please Macy. I wouldn't lie to you. I'm telling you the truth." He pleaded and Macy knew deep down that he was. She moved slightly and gasped at the fiery hot pain that raced through her arm. Tears flooded her eyes and she gasped as Cam suddenly appeared, touching her hand softly. She yanked her hands away, whimpering in pain as the hot pain alluded her senses.
"Let me look," Macy could see the genuine look of concern in his eyes as they bore into her's. It made her feel a little breathless. "Please Macy." She found herself nodding and Cam's soft warm hands caressed her injured wrist gently. His eyes ran across her wrist and saw immediate swelling.
"It's a sprain." He concluded and Macy let out a soft breath, relived to know that it wasn't broken. Cam glanced at his mate and saw drowsiness in her eyes.
"I need to wrap it up so it doesn't get worse." He said, holding his hand out. Macy placed her's in his and he helped her stand. He escorted her to the bed and sat her down before disappearing into another room, a bathroom. When he returned, he had a roll of wrap in his hand. Macy sniffled and winced as he began to gently wrap her injured wrist. When he was finished, all Macy felt was this dull ache. Cam gave her a reassuring smile, but he could sense a small bit of distrust from her. He sat down beside her.
"Macy, there's something I need to tell you and afterwards, you have every right to leave. But if you stay, I can promise you my protection and care, okay?" Macy nodded and Cam took a deep breath before beginning.
