Chapter 23
Xavier felt a white hot anger erupt inside of him. He thought he had been the angriest he had ever been when he found out that Cameron had Macy, but now things have changed. He screamed in outrage, seeing red, as he completely destroyed his office, yelling obscenities.
His own mate! His own mate had betrayed him! He growled and felt his wolf wanting to surface. He wanted to tear something, someone, apart. He pushed his wolf back, knowing that he wouldn't be in control of himself if his wolf was in control. Xavier's plans were now over. But that was okay. Seeing now that all he wanted was to kill Shea.
How could she have done something like this to him? She had said that she loved him and would follow him through anything! He knew he shouldn't have trusted her, but he did anyway because of the stupid pull between mates.
"Collin!" Xavier screamed and his servant rushed in, scared for his life.
"Y-yes sir?" He asked and Xavier turned to him, eyes black as night and his body shaking. Collin shrunk down and cowered as Xavier came towards him.
"I want you to deliver a message to Shea. She's probably under Cameron's protection. I want you to tell her that she's dead to me and that the war will continue until she is brought to me, alive. Understood?" He snapped and Collin nodded before hurrying off. Someone was going to die for this war and he was damned if it was going to be him.
Cameron yawned after a long day of work. It had been a very long day, full of practice and strategies. He had a headache and all that he was looking forward to doing was being with Macy. He felt his pocket one more time, a huge smile coming across his face. He was going to do it and he was completely sure she'd say yes.
He wished that things were better, that the conditions they were in made it so that he could prepare, but he knew that it wouldn't matter to Macy. Anything that came from the heart would make her day, big or small. He entered their room, grinning to see that Macy was still awake.
When she saw him, she smiled and swung her feet over the edge of the bed. He closed the door behind him and froze at the sudden nervousness that crossed over him. He looked over at Macy to see her standing and he made his way over to her.
"You should be lying down," he said, his hands gripping her shoulders. She waved a hand, as if tossing the remark away.
"I've been in bed all day, stretching is good. It'll be okay." She said with a laugh and he smiled. He looked her over, seeing her stomach beginning to grow. Her hands wrapped around his neck, her fingers playing with his hair.
"I missed you today," she said softly and he smiled, wrapping his arms around her waist.
"I missed you too," he leaned down and kissed her lips, softly, knowing just the way she liked it. Her lips worked with his and he reached down into his pocket, retrieving the black velvet box and squeezing it tightly in his hand.
"I love you, did you know that?" He asked, resting his forehead against her own. She giggled and nodded.
"Yes. Even if no one thinks it's real." His eyes met hers and they shared a silent message. They both knew who they were talking about. Xavier. Cameron leaned down and pressed a hard kiss to her lips, his nerves beginning to get the better of him.
"Hmm, Cameron, what's wrong?" She asked, pulling away and staring up at him worriedly. He took a deep breath and smiled, knowing that she was going to say yes.
"I've just been thinking," he said and she laughed.
"That's never a good thing." She teased and he chuckled.
"It's an important issue that I've been asking myself over and over again for the past few weeks," he said, pulling her to the side of the bed and sitting her down. He held her hands in his, the box in his pocket growing heavy.
"Is it about the war?" She asked and he shook his head.
"No, it's actually about this girl I know," Macy fought a smile.
"Oh? Tell me more," she played along and he smiled, sighing contently.
"Well, she's amazing. She's smart and beautiful and ever so strong. Can play the piano like no one I have ever heard before. When she laughs, I can't breathe. And I hate it when she cries. She makes me the greatest man I can be and makes me want to do better," her eyes glistened with tears and he touched the side of her face. "She's carrying my child, our child, and is going to be an amazing mother, Luna, and wife." Her eyebrows furrowed in confusion.
"But we aren't-" Cameron smiled and got off the bed, going down on one knee and taking the box out of his pocket, all the while holding her hand. Macy gasped and covered her mouth with her free hand as her eyes filled with tears.
"I love you, Macy," he opened the box and revealed a small diamond ring. "I want to spend the rest of my life with you, growing our family, starting with our peanut. No war and no person will ever be able to make me stop loving you as much as I do." Macy choked on a sob.
"So, Macy, will you marry me?" Cameron asked, his heart pounding. His wolf howled in happiness as she nodded her head.
"Yes, yes I will!" She cried and he grinned as he took the ring out of the box and slid it onto her finger. Macy threw her arms around his neck and hugged him tightly as she cried happily into his shoulder. He kissed her cheek and held her tightly, grinning and loving every single moment he could be with her.
Macy pulled away and took his face in her hands, kissing him with everything that she had, and Cameron would admit, that if she wasn't already pregnant, he would have made her again that night.
She pulled away and looked at the ring.
"It's beautiful, Cameron. Thank you." She kissed his cheek and he grinned.
"It took me forever to pick out the perfect ring, so I just asked my mother and she said that my father had asked her hand with this exact ring," Macy gasped and looked at the ring.
"And it was okay?" She asked and Cameron laughed.
"Of course. She was so excited when I told her that I was going to propose to you." He said and her cheeks blushed. Cameron held her hand as she stared in awe at the ring.
"This is... This is breathtaking." She whispered and Cameron smiled, touching her chin and lifting it. He stared into her hazel eyes and leaned in. Macy's eyes closed against her will. Which was always the case when Cameron was going to kiss her.
"You are breathtaking, my queen." She smiled and her cheeks felt hot as he kissed her again. The feeling that came over the mated pair was unique and special only to them. They separated and fell asleep together, dreaming of their future and of their peanut.
The days passed by, Cameron gone most of the day, working on preparations. Recently, a messenger from Xavier's pack, gave them a message, telling Cameron that the war was only going to end if Shea was brought to him alive.
"So, it's not about Macy anymore?" Riley asked as the messenger, a skinny male named Collin, nodded.
"Apparently so. He was going on and on about how Shea had betrayed him." Riley and Cameron shared a look. Cameron had told Riley about what Shea had come forward about and informed him about Macy's decision to keep her around.
"It could be over, Alpha. If we just hand her over." Cameron shook his head.
"Not possible. What Macy has decided, stays. Shea may have committed treason, but you know it is possible to be blinded by the pull." Riley raised an eyebrow.
"And you believe her? She could be lying because she know she messed up and the rules for someone who has committed treason against the pack." Cameron had been thinking the exact same thing.
"Shea may have done some bad things, but that doesn't make her a bad person. She said she loved Xavier and only wanted the best for him and that this war was slowly killing him. I can believe her because she left him because she did love him." Riley's jaw clenched. He wouldn't understand since he had yet to find his mate, but he nodded none the less, knowing that his Alpha was correct and not to defy him, even if he was his beta.
"So what do we do now? Let the war continue?" Cameron sighed and ran a hand over his face.
"Macy would not let me send her back to Xavier. She knows first-hand what he would do to her," Riley nodded solemnly and Cameron took a deep breath. "So, we keep her under our protection and defeat Xavier as if he was still after Macy." Riley nodded.
"Alright. Earlier this morning, while you were sleeping, we had a breach." Cameron came on high alert.
"And you're telling me this now?" Cameron asking, aggravated.
"We got it under control. No one got hurt. Except for Xavier's men," Cameron sent him a short glare. "His attacks are completely uncoordinated, his men are confused and don't know what they are supposed to be doing. The moment we showed up, they called surrender." Cameron raised an eyebrow.
"He's distracting us." Cameron said.
"What? How, we have patrols round the clock. No one comes in and out, just like you said." Cameron nodded and opened his mouth to say something when someone burst into the room.
"Alpha! Alpha!" A young man came running in and Cameron was on high alert.
"Xavier! He's here! And he's come for Shea and Macy!" Cameron felt his wolf wanting to surface before he turned to Riley.
"Find Willa, Lillian, and Claire and send them up to Macy! Now!" Riley ran off and Cameron went up to the young man.
"Where is he?" Cameron asked bitterly.
"He's at the border, quickly advancing on our forces." Cameron followed the young man out of his office and down the stairs. Fighters exited their rooms as he called a silent pack message to all of them, calling them to attention. They exited the house as women and children were scurried inside. Cameron left the house and saw his fighters had already shifted and now it was his turn.
He loved shifting. It was his favorite part of being a Were. And when he became an Alpha, his wolf grew, becoming the largest wolf in the entire pack. Before he shifted, he looked up at the room where he knew Macy was. He could see her standing in the window, looking at him with fear in her eyes. He smiled and winked at her, seeing her give a faint smile. He turned back around to see Riley standing right in front of him, his best friend smirking.
"You ready to end this thing?" He asked and Cameron grinned.
"Let's do it." He said before he felt his wolf take over and his body change in a now painless change. His senses exploded with new smells. His eyes could see farther than ever before. He felt strong and powerful, his wolf towering over his fighters. He looked back up at the window to see Macy, her eyes wide with amazement, but a large grin seeping across her lips.
He looked back at his fighters before lifting his head and releasing a loud howl, signaling that the fighting was going to begin.
Macy's heart was beating incredibly fast. She had seen Cameron shift for the first time and it was a breathtaking sight. Hearing him howl caused fear to grip her chest because she knew that something was going to happen. And it wasn't going to be good.
