Chapter 20
Five days passed and Xavier was growing restless. He wanted Macy back and he wanted Cameron dead. Men came and went as Xavier gave orders for small attacks, ones that left him in ruin and not Cameron. He growled and slammed his fist on his desk.
"I don't understand why this is completely necessary," his wolf howled and he spun around as Shea came into the room. "It's obvious you're going to loose," her eyes narrowed in anger. "And all for that pathetic human."
"It's all about ownership. She is mine and I own her. She is my property and Parker stole her from me." He growled and Shea's lips curled.
"I am yours. I am your mate, and she is nothing but a pathetic human girl who you screwed for your past time." She was pissed, obviously, and Xavier sighed.
"You have seen my reasons, Shea. You know why I must go after her," he said, turning away from her. He felt her arms, wrap around his stomach.
"I know, I know. But don't you see that it hurts me to know that you're willing to go to war for some human girl?" He turned around, seeing the tears in her eyes. His heart ached. Some have called him heartless, but he was far from it. He cupped her cheeks and kissed her.
"I can't back out now," he smirked. "And besides, maybe going to war is a good thing." She looked up at him, confused.
"How?"
"Well, I've hated Parker for as long as I can remember. He ruined me, killed my parents. He deserves the same fate as they had, with no mercy at all," he traced the side of her face. "And then we could finally be together." She smiled.
"And what about Macy?" She asked and an evil smirk came across his lips.
"I'll take care of Parker if you take care of her." Her eyes glinted with mischief before he eland down and kissed her, hard.
"Easy enough. The girl has no strengths at all." He chuckled as she grinned.
"Take her out, and Cameron will be ruined. Maybe we'll keep him as a servant, giving him a life of heartache and pain, a much worse punishment than what my parents had." She wrapped her arms around his neck and grinned evilly.
"I will do it, when she isn't around that stupid Willa Coleman." She growled and Xavier laughed.
"Kill them all, I don't care. Just take Macy out and leave Cameron to me." She smiled and nodded.
"Will do." He was expecting some kind of kiss or something more, but she separated herself from him and went towards the door.
"They will notice I've been gone, so I'll be seeing you," his wolf howled as she gave him a wink. "Bye, Xavier." He smirked as she closed the door. He went behind his desk and dropped into his seat as more men came in, and he gave orders out without even thinking.
*************
It had been a week since the encounter with Xavier, since the war started. Cameron was gone most of the day and Macy found herself going to bed by herself. And waking up alone as well. One night, Cameron had come in late and had just fallen into bed when he was called again, told about an attack fifteen miles from the house.
Macy stayed up the rest of the night and heard the howls of pain and death in the air. She couldn't sleep, her mind wandering to scenarios of that those howls were Cameron's. When the sun peaked over the horizon that morning, Macy could barley stand on her own two feet. She eventually fell asleep on the couch, waking up to Cameron carrying her to their room.
She tried to convince him to take a break because he was exhausted, running on coffee and energy drinks and not sleep. When Cameron didn't sleep, he became irritated quickly. And when Macy tried to convince him to take a day off, he snapped, going off on her and slamming the door behind him, leaving Macy in tears.
That night, he left Riley in charge and went home, deciding he needed a good nights rest with no interruptions and time with his mate. He went into the room, tentative, knowing he had messed up earlier, only to see Macy asleep. He felt himself smile at how she was wearing one of his shirts. He took a shower and got in beside her, relaxing instantly when her scent engulfed his nose.
"Cam?" Her soft flutter of a voice echoed thorough the room as she rolled over, her face inches from his.
"Hey, sweetheart," he whispered softly. She wrapped her arms around his neck, hugging him tightly, yet comfortably. "I'm so sorry about earlier. I didn't mean to get angry, it wasn't your fault and I'm so sorry." He said into her ear and she smiled.
"I know, and it's okay. I understand." He pulled away and kissed her, missing how soft her lips were and the feel of her hands in his hair. She sighed against his lips at the feel of his body so close to hers.
"I've missed you," she whispered and he nodded.
"I know, and I wish I could come to bed like this every night," he frowned. "But I can't." His hands smoothed over her soft skin, kissing her neck and wishing he wouldn't have to leave in the morning. She murmured his name mindlessly and when he kissed her mark, she gasped at the sickness that came over her. She shoved him away, falling off the bed before scurring into the bathroom where she threw up in the toilet.
"Macy!" He was surprised, shocked and hurried to help her. He held her hair back, rubbing her back as worry consumed his body. When she was done, he dampened a towel and cleaned her lips. Her face was pale and her breathing was labored. He touched her forehead and felt a fever. But she was just fine a few minutes ago!
"I'll go get the doctor, okay?" He picked her up slowly and hated the whimper of pain the came from her lips as she pressed a hand to her stomach. He placed her softly on the bed, leaning her against the headboard. He waited a few minutes before rushing out of the room and grabbing the pack doctor, practically throwing him up the stairs.
The doctor kept Cameron outside of the room because he didn't want him getting in the way of his examination. Ten minutes passed, then twenty, then fourty. Cameron was panicking, his forehead sweaty as he paced outside the door. He had never been this worried, or scared, in his entire life. What was wrong with Macy? Was she sick? If she was sick, the simple stomach bug diagnosis wouldn't have taken this long to discover!
When the door opened, an hour after the doctor had arrived, he looked pleaslty happy. He smiled, shaking his Alpha's hand and assuring his leader that his mate was healthy and that she had the answers for him to her sudden sickness. And then the doctor left, leaving Cameron with more questions than answers. He hurried into the room to see Macy, her eyes red and tears streaming down her face.
She looked abosutly distraught as he quickly made his way over to her, sitting beside her and picking up her hands.
"Macy, what's wrong?" And she only cried harder, crying so hard, she couldn't breathe. She shook her head, telling Cameron that she couldn't tell him.
"Macy, please, tell me." He begged, but she only shook her head harder.
"I-I c-can't." She cried, sobbing into her hands. He felt his heart cracking as he wrapped her up in his arms, holding her tightly to his chest; she only cried harder, if that was possible.
"Shh, Macy, easy. Just breathe for me." She took a deep breath and let it out, repeating this until she had slowly stopped crying. He pulled her away and she wished he hadn't. He wiped her tears and kissed her forehead.
"Now, what did the doctor say? I'm really worried about you." Her lower lip trembled, but she caught it with her teeth, squeezing her eyes shut. She couldn't tell him, no. He wouldn't be able to deal with her, the war, and then this.
"Macy, please," he begged her. "I need to know."
"It'll make you worry," she whispered and he shook his head.
"No, sweetheart. What I'm worried about is you," he held her hands, smoothing his thumbs over her knuckles. "It kills me not knowing." She swallowed hard and took a deep breath. She made sure he was looking at her before confessing. She didn't want to tell him, the doctor had given her the choice but they both knew that Cameron was going to find out one way or another and it might as well have come from her.
"Cam," he looked at her, eyes wide and paying attention, waiting intently for her answer. She swallowed and gave a light smile. "I'm pregnant."
