Chapter 10
The next morning, neither Macy or Cameron could find the will to get out of bed. They both were cuddled close to each other, Macy's head resting very closely to his, her breath fanning across his ear. It drove Cameron's wolf crazy with want and it took a lot of power to calm his wolf down. Macy was awake, but she kept her eyes closed. Cam, well, he couldn't stop himself from looking at her.
He knew she was awake by the way her heart was beating and how her breathing had picked up. But Macy couldn't help it. Cameron's scent was intoxicating and she loved it so. If she could have, like Cameron, smelt it all day and be very content by the end of it. Cameron, on the other hand, forced himself not to inhale her sweet scent. It seemed as if it were mocking him; teasing him.
Finally, after a few minutes, Cameron wound his arms tighter around Macy's waist that caused her to gasp and open her eyes. She had been lost in his scent, his smell, and forgotten where she was. When her gaze met Cam's, all fear was lost, and all she could do was stare dreamily into his eyes.
Cam felt a small smile lift his lips at the look on his mate's face. She looked like she was dreaming, a small daze in her eyes. And then it hit him, and it made his heartbeat pick up, that she was staring dreamily at him.
"Hey." He whispered, feeling a little breathless. Macy, broken out of the trance she was in by Cam's husky morning voice, blinked awake, finally seeing him. Her cheeks immediately reddened and Cam smiled.
"Hi." Was her quiet reply. They stared at each other for a few more minutes, neither one of them really wanting to look away first.
"How did you sleep?" He asked, his hand raising and falling upon her arm. It was cool and Cam instantly felt bad. She should have been warm. A million words ran through her mind at well she had slept. It was, in fact, one of the best night's sleep she had ever gotten. She was warm the entire night and the nightmares didn't plague her dreams. She wanted to say all the words she was thinking of, but restrained herself.
"Good." Was her reply and he could see the disappointment in her eyes. He knew it was towards herself and he didn't want her to think badly of herself. He squeezed her arm and moved his hand towards her face where her cheek cradled perfectly in the palm of his hand. Macy couldn't help but sigh at the warmness of his hand.
"What is it?" He whispered and Macy stared longingly into his eyes. It took his breath away.
"It's nothing..." She said, casting her eyes away from his. Lifting her chin and moving impossibly closer to her, Cam forced her to look into his eyes.
"You can tell me, Macy." He breathed, his breath warm and causing shivers to consume her body.
"I know.. it's just... I don't know." She said, looking miserable. He smiled at her and her eyebrows picked up in surprise.
"Well, I don't know about you, but I slept rather amazingly last night." He said and color filled her cheeks. Her eyes were locked with his and he felt himself go absolutely breathless at the breathtaking sight of her glorious smile.
"Yeah, me too." Her response pulled at Cameron's heart and his instinct was to lean in and kiss her, but he wasn't sure how she would react. Was she ready? What if it was too soon? He had just found her the day before and kissing her this early would show that all he really wanted was her. Which was true, but it wasn't just her body he wanted; it was all of her.
Macy had never felt this way before and she was truly questioning everything. If she wasn't his mate, would he had still saved her? Would he still protect her from Xavier? And what if her being his mate was only a way to make her stay? But the way he looked at her proved otherwise. He seemed to be absolutely smitten by her, yet Macy couldn't take any chances. And right now, the way he gazed at her, his eyes so strong and confident, seemed as if all he wanted to do right now was kiss her and Macy didn't know if she really wanted that or not.
"Cam?" Cam was caught off guard by her voice and he blinked.
"Yeah?" She licked her lips nervously and she had no idea what kind of effect it had on him. Macy wanted to know really badly, and she quickly changed her mind, but it was too late. She had already grabbed his attention and changing the subject would just make her feel bad and make her want to know the answer even more. She wanted, no needed, to know.
"Um, do you want to kiss me?" Her eyes were wide and Cam searched them thoroughly for any sign of fear or discomfort, but saw none. His heart pounded as he brushed some of her hair back. He wanted to kiss her so badly, he couldn't stand it. She was so innocent and he was afraid that his wolf would get in the way and force her into something she wasn't ready for.
No. He was not going to let that happen. He had control over his wolf and the fact that he was going to let himself kiss her, should have at least made him happier. Cam sighed and nodded.
"Never in my entire life had I ever wanted to kiss someone this bad." He said and it made Macy's heart ache. Butterflies pounded the walls of her stomach as Cam searched her eyes. He needed to be sure she was ready for this. If she wasn't, he was back at square one, and if she was, well, he'd just have to see how that went.
His thumb smoothed over her cheek, along her cheekbone, and it caused heat to flood Macy's body. It was sweet, and caring, and protective. His fingers traced the side of her face, his eyes still searching her's for any sign of rejection. His hand found her chin and he held it softly between his thumb and finger. Macy was trying to keep herself breathing, but it was hard when this breathtaking man was touching her face.
His eyes darted to her lips then back to her eyes, as if asking for permission. She said yes with the longing look in her eyes. Leaning forward slowly, their foreheads touched and Macy's breath caught in her throat. Her eyes instantly closed as his warm breath cascaded down upon her lips.
"Cam..." Her hands pressed against his chest and he knew it wasn't to restrain him. It was to bring him closer. He was taking this painfully slowly and Macy was just trying to keep breathing, which didn't happen.
Their noses brushed and Cam was just about to press his lips to her's when three loud raps at the door sounded, causing the pair to jump.
"Alpha! Xavier's here and he wants to speak with you immediately!" Riley's voice was muffled by the door and anger welled up Cam's body not only at the sudden interruption, but at the clear horror that filled Macy's eyes.
Follow your heart, no matter how far it takes you.
