In between your thoughts
laid bare in lines sublime
I find a fortress there
built up over time

If I approach too near
your defenses would arise
protecting you in fear
and your heart from my eyes

Yet I wait in the silence
beneath this shaded hope
that you may meet me at the fence
and see what I already know

I draw the scene past restless waves
and allow your observant heart its space
to test the waters and allow time
for acclimation to this soul of mine

I will write my simple songs
as we drift out here along
this harmless current we yet feel
in the spring of something real
