Ganon

I can hear the music coming from the frat house before we even get out of my car.

"Ready?" Impa asks, checking her makeup in the mirror.

"No..."

I look out of the window to take in the scene. What is happening here? I am outside a frat house with drunk students scattered across the front lawn and people making out on the porch, ready to run after the boy I kissed and judged. I check the time... It's almost 10 PM. So much for the curfew.

"Ready?" Impa asks again.

"Ready," I exhale and open the car door.

Impa greets at least ten people before we even enter the house. The music is too loud to carry a normal conversation and the amount of people in this tight space makes me anxious.

"Karson!" Impa calls her friend and heads over to a group of people standing around a huge Jenga tower.

"Impa! Perfect timing, we're about to play beer pong. But first I'm going to win this game."

"You wish," his friend slurs.

"They aren't architecture majors, so it's easy to win," Karson says to Impa and removes a block from the unsteady tower.

The next guy takes another piece and the whole thing crashes down onto the wooden floor.

"GG," Karson takes a sip from his red cup and heads over to the ping pong table with Impa.

Impa looks at me and waves me over. She's getting too distracted too easily. When I arrive at the ping pong table, her smile grows and she gestures at her friends.

"Zelda, this is Granté, Teli, Mils, and Mina."

"Nice to meet you," I say with an effortless half-smile and whisper to my friend. "Impa, we have to find Link."

"Just one round," she says, dipping the ping pong ball in one of the filled cups on the table.

"You can be on my team," Granté says but I decline.

I need to find Link and they are slowing me down. I leave the living room area without Impa and find the stairs. Two people are making out on the stairs and when I try to pass them the girl offers him to head upstairs. His eyes move up and down her body before they find me passing by behind her. When he looks at me I gape unintentionally. Isn't that Domidak?

"Hold on," he tells me and I stop, more so because I'm not sure whether he meant me or her. I thought he had a crush on Impa, why is he making out with another girl? Has he already given up and moved on? Or is this to distract him from someone who didn't show interest? Maybe he had a girlfriend all along. People can be so different to how you think they are.

"Didn't you hear me?" He asks loudly, barely audibly through the booming music.

"Sorry what?" I yell back.

"Can I get you a drink?"

"What?" the girl and I say at the same time.

"A drink," he says to me with a type of confidence I didn't know he had. "You look like you need one."

"No, thanks," I say confused.

"Come on, just one drink," he insists.

"Prissen!" The girl snaps at him. "You're here with me!"

Prissen?

"So?" he shrugs her off. She throws her hair over her shoulder with a huff and leaves the stairs.

"So, about that drink," he smiles at me.

"What's going on with you? Impa is right over there, didn't you like her? Why did that girl call you Prissen?"

He bursts into laughter, takes a look at Impa cheering by the ping pong table, then laughs even harder.

"Domidak has a crush on Impa? Good luck with that!"

"What?"

"Domidak is my twin brother," he reveals.

Ohhh. They look exactly the same, I really thought it was Domidak. "He's not really good with the ladies so I'm just a bit amused that he chose one of the most unavailable girls to chase after."

"Unavailable? What do you mean?" We both look at Impa.

"She's taken."

"No she's not?"

"She is," he persists. "I've tried a couple times with her, but she keeps reminding me that she's seeing someone. And it's not just an excuse. She won't let any guy come near her."

Impa tosses the tiny white ball across the table and when it lands in one of the cups, she cheers loudly and jumps into Karson's arms.

"We're all just her bros," he shakes his head in regret.

Why didn't Impa tell me that she's seeing someone? I've never seen her behave like this. I knew she was wild and extremely social, but I didn't imagine her to be best friends with everyone at this party. I'm happy that she's happy, but it kind of stinks to see that others are causing that happiness and not me. Especially hearing that she's dating someone and didn't bother to tell me. She's probably just saying that to keep the guys away from her. I should ask her about it when the time seems right. But right now I have to find Link.

"Are you more the beer type or do you want something fruity?" Prissen asks me.

"Neither," I say and head upstairs.

The music isn't as loud up here and the only other person in the hallway is Revali. For the first time, I'm actually happy to see him.

"Revali," I say to make him look up from his phone.

"It's you," he snarls.

"Where's Link?"

"Excuse me?"

"Is he here?"

"Probably not," Revali says and continues to look at his phone.

"Where's his room?" I ask and seem to have caught his attention again.

"Why?" He narrows his eyes.

"I need to speak to him."

"About what?"

I press my lips into a thin line to keep my snarky comment to myself.

"Could you just point out his room? Please."

"Under one condition."

"What do you want?" I am afraid to ask.

"You're friends with Mipha, right?"

"I... Yes?" I think I am.

"Put a good word in for me next time you see her."

"Why don't you just talk to her yourself?"

"Why don't you just open each door to find Link's room?" he counters.

"Fine," I growl. "Which door is it now?"

"Hold up, we haven't discussed the details yet."

"I don't have time for details," I say worried. "Please, Revali. I will tell Mipha anything you want, just show me Link's room, please."

"I can guarantee you that he won't be there."

"I don't know where else to look."

Tears are threatening to fall and I don't even know why. I need to find Link soon, or I'll lose it.

"Fine," Revali sighs and walks over to the last door in the hallway. He enters the room and I follow inside.

The room is small but very neat. A compound bow hangs on display above the bed with two blue feathers attached. Pictures of Revali skydiving decorate the desk and the dart board by the closet has a picture of Link pinned to it.

"This isn't Link's room," I note in distress.

"No, but this is where the keys to his room are," Revali says and opens the drawer of his night stand.

"You have his keys?"

"Why wouldn't I?"

I look back at the dart board. "You don't seem very fond of him."

"He's still my brother," Revali remarks and leads me out of his room again.

"So does every frat boy have a key to his room?"

"Yes, but we don't use them."

"Unless bribed," I say under my breath while he opens the door across the hall. "How often does he have girls over?"

"He doesn't invite people."

"And... How often do you let girls in here without telling him?"

"This is the first time."

His words ease my worries slightly. I'm glad that no other girls spend their time in Link's room. Revali opens the door and we both glance into a dark, deserted room. I can't make out a whole lot, but it's clear that there's no one inside. We close the door again.

"Thanks anyway," I sniff and try to steady my breath. I could go back to Vah Rudania and wait there in hopes that Link will come back. I doubt he would... I was so cruel to him.

"Just call him," Revali suggests. Another arrow piercing my heart.

"I can't. I don't have his number."

"If..." Revali says, looking anywhere else but my eyes. "If you want... I can... Call him... Or something."

"You would do that?" I practically jump up like one of Link's annoying fangirls.

"Yea..."

"Thank you Revali!" I hug him before either of us can stop me but I jump away from him immediately. "Sorry."

I check behind me, the hallway is still empty.

"Whatever," he shakes it off and brings his phone up to his ear. He mouths the word "Voicemail", then speaks. "Your girlfriend is trying to get a hold of you..." He slows down, having noticed my spasmodic waves with my hands and my frantic shake with the head. No no no, why would he say that?

"Just come home, she's waiting," he finishes and hangs up. "What?" He hisses.

"I'm not his girlfriend!"

"Really?"

"Why would you think that?"

Did Malice spread another rumor?

"Because he has you as his wallpaper."

"Wh...." The words dissolve on my tongue before I can say them. He has me as his wallpaper? His phone wallpaper? He said he doesn't care about his wallpaper...

"You can wait in his room," Revali offers.

"How long will he be?"

He shrugs. "Usually he stays out till everybody's gone."

"And when will that be?"

"3, maybe 4 AM?"

"What? I can't stay that long."

"Then leave," he puffs and disappears into his room.

I stand in the hallway, lost and unsure what to do next, until I hear the giggly voice of Malice walking up the stairs. I open Link's room and hide inside. Of course Malice is here. She mustn't see me. If Father finds out that I was at a frat party I can kiss my dreams goodbye.

"Boring ass party," a male voice complains.

"Shut up," Malice says to him and laughs a little.

"Let's just go," he says to her but she just giggles.

"Are you scared?"  She teases him with a trace of taunt.

"Scared?" He sounds annoyed by her.

"Stop pissing your pants, he's not even home," she says.

"How would you know?" He asks.

"I just know," she slurs. "He's always away when they throw parties."

"Why would you even notice that he's gone? You still talking to that prick?"

I look through the keyhole to see who she's talking to. Just another member of the "We hate Link" club. I spot Malice in a short skirt and fishnet top, talking to a tall guy with a messy undercut. His hair is red and black, similar to Malice's. I can only see his back, but his body looks trained like that of an athlete.

"Jealous much?" She grins and reaches up to kiss him. This must be her boyfriend; Ganon.

I'm glad I decided to hide. This guy is associated with those baseball players who attacked me. I don't even want to imagine him and Link in a fight. This guy is so tall and his muscular arms are covered in ink. He pushes her away and seizes both her wrists with a tight grip.

"Tell me," he demands.

"Chill out!" she yells.

"You're supposed to take care of him, not hook up with him. You're not forgetting about the job, right?"

"Don't worry 'bout it."

"Malice," he spits. "Tell me!"

"I don't have to tell you shit."

"This affects me too you know?" The guy raises his hand and Malice flinches and covers her face. What the... Was he going to hit her?

"I'm doing what I have to do, okay?"

"There are faster ways to get it done, Mal! You don't want to bury another brother do you?"

"Fuck off! I got it under control okay?"

"That asshole better not cause any trouble for us," he says to her.

"Are you still butthurt that he beat your ass?"

"Shut up."

"Make me," she provokes him in a flirty tone and steps closer to him again to slide her hands under his black t-shirt. They go from kissing to makeout session within seconds. How is she not afraid of him? He just raised his hand against her and I bet it wasn't the first time.

The guy jerks away from her. "Watch it," he hisses, "it still hurts."

"Crybaby," she rolls her eyes.

"Let's go, this party sucks ass," he takes her arm and pulls her away like a dog on a leash.

I can see his face when he turns around and a gasp escapes my lips. A week has passed since their fight but his face still looks worse than Link's did on Monday. He's limping too. A large white bandage shows by his neck where his tattoos begin.

When they leave my field of vision I can finally breathe again. I was so nervous that they would hear or find me that I held my breath the entire time.

What was Malice doing here with him in the first place? Is she looking for more drama? Hopefully she'll leave Impa alone when she heads back downstairs.

I step away from the door and take in the dark room. I pull up my phone to use the screen light, but the battery died.

I try to find my way through the dark and step on all kinds of things. Link's and Revali's rooms are polar opposites. I reach the window and pull up the blinds enough to bring some light to the room. Clothes, assignments, textbooks, trophies, a backpack, and sports equipment litter the carpet. I cringe when I spot a baseball bat in the corner. The walls are plastered in signed posters of athletes I don't recognize and framed jerseys of teams I've never heard of.

He has a desk but clearly it's not being used for homework. Three monitors, gaming consoles, controllers, video game cases, a keyboard, and a headset, cover the space. Other interesting things personalize his room, like the Japanese flag hanging on the ceiling over the bed. It looks like someone wrote on it but when I walk over there and tilt my head to read what's been written on the flag it's hard to see anything through the dark.

I don't expect Link to come home anytime soon. If anything, Revali's voicemail will only scare him off. If I were Link, I'd probably try to stay away from home until tomorrow just to avoid that crazy girl waiting for me in my room.

I sit down on his bed, considering going back downstairs and asking Impa to leave. Father will be so angry when I get home... It must be past 10 by now. Link is important to me, but he's not worth throwing away my future. I like him. A lot. More than I've ever liked someone and I'm interested in his story. But being with him, thinking about him, it's just not a good idea. I've been nothing but trouble for him too. Ending this whole thing wouldn't be selfish, I'd probably do him a favor.
