34 || avengers tower cleaning and sneaking onto planes
"I swear, if you start singing the clean-up song as we pack, I'm actually going to leave."
Avengers Tower, New York City, New York, October 2016-
DAYS UNTIL HOMECOMING: 0
They had been sorting for hours. Sorting wasn't the exact word, it was more of packing up boxes and being monitored by Happy Hogan more than anything. Skylar and Alison had reached into the last room of the tower to be cleaned up, and it was Skylar's old room.
"I'm sorry Skylar, what was that?" Alison hollered, throwing some of her old clothes into the donate box. By this point, Skylar had moved out all of her old stuff, as she had been living in Avengers Facility for two years now, but it was the remnants of the things she left behind that needed to be packed up.
"I said that you need to take down the old photo frames on the walls after this." Skylar peeked her head out from her crouched position, gesturing to the walls around her. "We don't have three days to clean this place up, we have one night. Or- more like 15 minutes if we want these boxes to go on the plane."
"Yeah well, we can make that night stretch out as long as we want." Alison grumbled, starting to fold up the box of clothes. "Especially since your dad told us that if he finds out that we cheated at cleaning by hacking things or using superpowers that we'd be grounded for a long time."
Sighing, Alison and Skylar resumed cleaning up the small remains of the room. A lot of it was being donated to Salvation Army or Goodwill, so they just stuck little pink sticky notes on those items. Alison taped up her box of clothes, and started to work on the picture frames.
As Skylar finished off the first shelf and moved onto the next, her phone started to buzz with a classic rock song. Probably by AC/DC, as the girl had some music taste like her father. Rock was their shared thing, so it seemed.
Skylar picked up the phone, nestling it between her ear and her shoulder. "Yes, this is Skylar Stark. Now who would this be? Peter? What the- and Ned? Dear god, what have you two- are you serious?" She yelped, wanting to yell at her old childhood friends. "Yeah, yeah, okay. I'll put her on." Handing the phone over to Alison, Skylar gave her an "I told you so look."
"Alison?!" Peter exclaimed over the phone, still on call with Ned, as Ned had somehow patched his way through so he could talk to Peter and talk to Alison at the same time. Or maybe that was Skylar's doing, Alison really had no clue at this point. "Alison, are you there?" He yelled, the loud noises of a Queens street behind him. "Alison, I need you to do something for me."
Alison sighed as she pressed the phone up to her ear. "Yeah? And what would that be now, Peter? We've been stuck here cleaning since school got out cause I helped you." She ran a hand through her hair as she spoke her next words. "I'm just trying to lay low right now, you know, not draw attention to me? Having a super villain on your back is not a fun thing."
Skylar had not heard the full story of what had truly went down in the apartment, or, the Abby Incident (as Charles liked to call it) , and as Alison said those words, her eyes rolled in annoyance. "You're going to have to tell me more about that later!" She yelled, packing up her old bookshelf.
"Yeah, well, you're going to have to stop doing that at the moment. I just found out that Liz's dad is the Vulture- that scary guy that we've been tracking for the past few weeks! You know, the arms dealer? He said that he's going out of town tonight so that means that whatever big thing he's planning is going down, tonight!" Peter yelled, almost crashing into another car as he weaved in and out of the car lanes.
"First off- woah. That is some unexpected news, especially since I thought her dad was just a business man. At least, from what I know that she's told me in yearbook..." Alison trailed off, shaking her head out of the thought. "Second off, where are you? I thought you were supposed to be at Homecoming."
"Yeah, well, I was, and then-" Peter started, only to be cut off by Alison yelling a loud sigh of annoyance and irritation. "Well, you know, I needed to stop the Vulture! I need you to sneak onto the plane, the one that they're sending off from Avengers Tower tonight? Because I'm 80 percent sure that the plane is his target. Well, 65 percent."
"You want me to sneak onto a million- no- billion dollar plane on a 65 percent chance?!" Alison exclaimed, looking to Skylar with a pleading look for help. "Peter, that is not a good idea, especially since we're supposed to be cleaning he-"
"Would you just do it, please?" Peter hollered, getting instructions on where to go to take down the Vulture from Ned. "It's just a precaution, especially because I'm going to take him down right now. You're just the 'break glass in case of emergency case'."
"God, why do I get into these things?" Alison groaned, throwing one hand up into the air, letting it fall quickly. "Fine. I cave. What else do you need me to do?" She couldn't resist the chance to go out and play superhero again, and for a good reason. She was fully healed, and if she was scolded by Tony and/or Jackie, they couldn't pull the "you're not supposed to be out there" excuse. Alison placed the phone on speaker, starting to pack up the picture frames into a new box. "You're on speaker now, by the way."
"Get Skylar on your line comm thing." Peter hollered, not coming up with the right term for the communication device. "Have her connect your phone to mine, or whatever kind of comms that you have. I'll only have Flash's phone-"
"Flash's? What? That's pretty amazing." Skylar interjected, laughing as she took the last books out of her bookshelf. The two were still cleaning, even after agreeing be a part of whatever mess Peter/ Spider-Man was coming up with. "Anyways, do continue."
"But have her link us up." Peter finished, changing his attention back to the loud cars honking their horns at him and the almost pitch black scene of the night. "Ned, how are we doing on the headlights? And did you track my phone yet?"
Ned interrupted their conversation, and just in the nick of time. "Round knob, to the left of the steering wheel. Turn clockwise." There was a yelp of success from Peter's end of the line, indicating to the girls he found the headlights. Both turned their heads to each other, giving a small laugh.
"Oh, yeah, and he stopped in an old industrial park in Brooklyn." Ned squinted at the location, unsure of why. the location of Peter's phone beeped on one of the computers, overlaying the location on a grid-like map of the streets in the New York area.
"That's weird." Alison commented, shaking her head. "Peter, I thought you said that he was going out of town." Plopping down on Skylar's old bed, Alison looked to Skylar as she did so. her best friend soon followed suit, and got comfy lying on the bed.
"Weird." Ned agreed, remembering something. "Oh, and I reached Mister Happy. Don't think he likes you, by the way." Ned stated calmly, typing away at the keys on one of the many computers he had access to. "It sounded like he was catching a flight. He said something about taking off in nine minutes. He was surrounded by a bunch of boxes."
"Well, duh, he's here with us. Monitoring takeoff of the plane to Avengers Facility, and making sure that we-" Skylar started, pausing as soon as she spoke. "Oh my god, Alison, the boys are right. Vulture's targeting the plane! Why else would he be going out of town? That shipment has all of that new tech that my dad made-"
"Oh my god, Ned, how much time did you say that we had?!" Alison exclaimed, jumping up from the bed. Skylar took her phone back in her hands, still leaving the phone on speaker. "Because I got to get over to the loading deck without causing that much of a scene and no one noticing." She placed her hands on her head, almost starting to pace the floor in nervousness.
"You now have eight minutes Alison." Ned advised, looking at the time. He had called Happy just a minute before, and realized something. "Peter, slow down. you're getting close. It's on your right. turn right, turn right!" He yelled, watching the small location he had on Peter not turn right like he advised.
"Alison, you need to get your suit! Or one of the old suits from someone that Tony has lying around!" Peter exclaimed, listening to Ned's instructions. He had, of course, not taken a right, so he slung out a web to a lamppost to help him navigate. The car crashed against the curb and started to slide, causing a loud noise come through the call.
"Peter! Are you okay?" Skylar asked, chorusing in with Ned, who was saying the same thing at the exact same time. "Jinx." Ned called out weakly, staring at his computer screens for another minute. "Alison, it's now down to seven minutes."
"Okay, okay." Skylar answered for Alison, watching the girl stress out and prepare at the same time. "We've got it from here. Please don't mess up your side of the plan, okay? Defeat Vulture now, so none of us get in even more trouble than we already are in. Okay, bye." She hung up the call, not wanting to hear any more out of the boys.
"What are we going to do?" Alison asked her friend, her eyes showing most of her nervousness. She wasn't pacing the floor yet, but seemed like she was about to. "I mean, when he said grab a suit, I can't just hop into one of Wanda's or Romanoff's-"
"I have your suit." Skylar answered calmly, not even blinking an eye at Alison's anxiety. The girl knew it wasn't anxiety, it was more of a worry that everything was going to go wrong, like whatever happened the day of the Abby Incident.
"You have my-what?" Alison processed what her friend had said, sighing in relief. "You have my suit! Then what are we waiting for! Let's get in it, and get on that plane!" She exclaimed, motioning for Skylar to find the suit.
Skylar reached under her old bed frame, pulling out the still silver but slightly dented briefcase Alison's suit had come in. "Please, please, from now on, never give it back to my dad. He thinks that hiding it with me is the best place to hide stuff."
Alison grabbed the suit, thankful for her friend. "That I most definitely can do." She agreed, opening the briefcase and pulling out the suit. "Now, how much time did you say we had?" Alison quirked an eyebrow, holding up her suit and visor-like mask.
"Four minutes now, at the rate we've been talking. Why?" Skylar asked, quirking an eyebrow straight back at her friend. But before she could get a response, Alison was blank space for a second, before appearing in her very same spot, donning her supersuit.
Dropping her old clothes on the floor, Alison smiled at her friend. "Because we have a plane to sneak onto, and you, my friend, need to set up your tech stuff." She started to nestle in her normal bluetooth talking device, but Skylar smacked it out of her hand before she could finish.
"Take this." Skylar handed Alison something that she had taken from the briefcase that Alison's suit laid in. "It's one of the comms that I designed, so it makes it easier for me to talk to you, and it can connect to whatever Peter has."
"Great." Alison placed the comm in her ear, watching Skylar do the same. "Can you hear me?" She asked, adjusting the position of the comm to a comfortable position. "I'm assuming you can." Alison pushed her hair up into a ponytail, wrapping the hair tie around the ponytail.
"Yup." Skylar adjusted her comm as well, pulling a laptop out of the bag she had brought (and placed on the bed earlier). "Now you need to get on that plane, it leaves in three minutes." She warned, watching her laptop come to life.
"And since when has that been a problem for me?" Alison challenged, placing her mask over her eyes. A smile formed on her face as she raced away towards the plane's takeoff zone. Wind whooshed behind her as she left, leaving Skylar tapping away at her laptop, chuckling as she did so.
Three minutes later Alison was on the plane, taking off with the plane headed for Avengers Facility.
